Ethnicity: Why Archaeology is a Semi-Soft Science Ethnicity is one of those concepts that was tailor-made to doom archaeology as a "soft" science. It is a pleasure to introduce you to the Afro-Ethnic Studies website and our degree program at California State University Fullerton. Afro-Ethnic Studies is a multidisciplinary approach to understanding the black experience as it relates to life in America as part of a world community.
In addition to degree programs in Afro-Ethnic Studies, the department provides course work in Ethnic Sudies in general (e.g., Intercultural Socialization) and other specific ethnic groups (e.g., American Indian).
Nearly all classes meet general education requirements in the social sciences and are designed to give you the opportunity to learn what "they" never taught you in all your years of schooling. It is increasingly imperative that you acquire knowledge of diverse cultural perspectives.

The Institute of Polish Diaspora and Ethnic Studies Faculty of International Relations and Political Studies On April 19, 2000, by resolution of the Jagiellonian University Senate, The Faculty of International Relations and Political Studies was founded. It comprises the following academic units: the Institute of Polish Diaspora and Ethnic Studies (the former Polonia Institute), the Institute of Political Science and International Studies and the newly-created Institute of Regional Studies. Also studying in the Faculty, besides Polish students, are foreigners. Their presence alongside Polish students is an important characteristic of this Faculty: it is international not only in the area of the research and studies conducted there. The ambition of the Faculty authorities is to invite distinguished representatives of academia world wide to give lectures, as well as to educate students from many countries. Thus the Faculty has a chance to become not only a center of international studies but also one for contacts among people representing various languages and cultures. The Institute of Polish Diaspora and Ethnic Studies The Institute of Polish Diaspora and Ethnic Studies, a member of the Association of European Migration Institute, is an interdisciplinary research and teaching center of the Jagiellonian University in Kraków, the oldest Polish university, founded in 1364. Established in 1972, the Institute has grown to become the main Polish research and teaching center of Polish as foreign language and for issues related to international migrations of Poles, ethnic and social problems of migration, Polish literature abroad.

The taboos of sex and sexuality continue to inhibit honest and open communication and dialogue while the rates of HIV/AIDS, unanticipated pregnancy, and sexually transmitted infections, such as gonorrhea and chlamydia, continue to cripple communities of color around the world. It is critical that women and youth take an active role in their own health and the health of their families and communities by becoming informed and involved. Please support IWES in its efforts to improve the health of communities of color through awareness and activism.

Research categories
Research conducted by
members of CEETUM falls
into three main categories: 1) Citizenship, exclusion, and racism
This category involves research on citizenship and pluralism (theories, models, public policy, and social practices) as well as on the dynamics of social inclusion and exclusion, with particular attention to racism and discrimination. 2) Immigration, ethnic pluralism, and social dynamics
Research in this category touches on migratory flows and immigrant integration, transformations in ethnic relations, the redefinition of ethno-linguistic boundaries in Montreal, and urban dynamics, including coexistence at the neighbourhood level and residential trajectories and segregation. 3) Ethnic relations, training, and education
The third category has to do with research on the role of education in constructing ethnic relations. This includes the adaptation of educational institutions, and diversity management and education in divided societies. This category also has a section devoted to the retention of languages-of-origin.
Reserch units
Several of these research
projects are conducted by

Ethnic Studies Department
Overview
The Ethnic Studies Department at Mills College puts the study of the intersection of race, gender, class and sexuality at the center of our teaching; we highlight the experiences of women of color, and feature classes such as African American women's history, Asian Pacific American women writers, American Indian women, and Latina(os) in the U.S. Our department also highlights the relationship between people of color and the environment, especially how racism and colonialism threaten the survival of ecological and social diversity. We also focus on the efforts led by people of color to protect our planet and provide more sustainable alternative models. The faculty in Ethnic Studies enable students to become involved in research and activism in local communities of color, thus making exciting connections with the vibrant diversity of the Bay Area. Some of the student research interests include an action research project into family access to death row inmates; genealogical research exploring the concept of African American cultural memory; video projects on multiracial Filipino/as and Black Indians, and participation in conferences such as the Brave Hearted Women Gathering and Dialogues in Diaspora.
