To keep up with this, people interested in disability need a fairly wide spectrum of knowledge including social policy, political overview, relationships and relationship skills, research awareness, as well as interventions in specific conditions. This pathway offers all these, providing a good foundation in understanding learning disability, while optional units reflect more specific interests, such as positive responses for people with learning disabilities who present challenges and interventions in profound learning disabilities. The University of Portsmouth has a strong reputation in this area, covering a broad range of specialities. Students will be able to develop their own experience of disability studies, gain specific knowledge and skills and integrate the theories of the programme into their own area of interest. The Disabilities Studies and Services Center (DSSC) is a department of the Academy for Educational Development (AED). The Academy for Educational Development (AED) is an independent, nonprofit service organization committed to addressing human development needs in the United States and throughout the world. (click on logos for more information) The National Information Center for Children and Youth with Disabilities (NICHCY) is a national information and referral center that provides information on disabilities and disability-related issues. NICHCY's audience is families, educators, and other professionals. NICHCY's special focus is children and youth (birth to age 22). The Federal Resource Center (FRC) is part of the Regional Resource and Federal Centers Network: the RRFC Network, a national network of technical assistance projects. The RRFC Network is composed of six Regional Resource Centers (RRCs) that work with states, and the Federal Resource Center for Special Education that coordinates the RRCs and is a liaison between the Network and Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSERS). The ultimate beneficiaries of the RRFC's services are infants, toddlers, children, and youth with disabilities, and the families and professionals who are associated with them.
