Archaeology at the Dawn of History:
The Khirbet Iskander Collection HOME ISKANDER ARCHAEOLOGY EXHIBIT ... SEARCH
The objective of this web site is to introduce K-12 students in northwest Pennsylvania to the world of Near Eastern Archaeology in the area called the Middle East today. It is also a goal to introduce students to the world of the archaeologist, especially the archaeologist who excavates in the southern Levant or the "land of the Bible." That land is today called Israel and Jordan. The example or " type site " we will use is Khirbet Iskander in Jordan. Another goal of the web site is to prepare students from northwest Pennsylvania to visit the archaeological exhibit at the Erie Art Museum . The exhibit is called "Archaeology at the Dawn of History: the Khirbet Iskander Collection," and focuses on the Khirbet Iskander excavation or "dig." This exhibit shows the everyday objects of ancient lifeways from over 4000 years ago. Consider that we live in 2000 AD/CE and the last people to live at Khirbet Iskander abandoned their city and homes in 2000 BC/BCE. Thereafter, the site lay in ruins. It was only recently that archaeologists decided to dig there and uncover the buried remains of this lost civilization. Archaeologists excavate primarily in order to reconstruct the ancient lifeways of people.

MAYA"....
Explorations Inc. invites you to enter a world of color, culture and customs where two thousand years of history can be glimpsed from exotic locales; from ancient shrouded Maya pyramids, a Spanish Colonial capital city, or from the secluded villages of the contemporary Maya as they continue to live in the rhythm of ancient traditions. Explorations Inc. has customized this educational adventure to take advantage of some of the best that the Mundo Maya has to offer. This unique journey is 10 days and 9 nights and covers a rich vista of geographical beauty. The Highlands of Guatemala have some of our hemishere's most beautiful, landscapes and environments, including cloudforests, lakes, and scenic mountain vistas. You will stay in the grand Spanish-colonial capital city of Anitgua where you will have time to stroll among historic buildings originating from the 1600's. Not only can you trace history back in time for over 2,000 years by visits to museums, archaeological sites and colonial buildings, but you will also witness the colorful living history of the present day indigenous Maya. While shopping in various highland village markets you will hear Mayan dialects that have changed little over hundreds of years. With a schedule that is practical yet active, time is allotted for personal exploration of the villages and towns. This particular part of Guatemala offers such a variety of sights and activities that a visit becomes an unforgettable adventure!

Introduction
There are approximately 2000 objects in the museum, not all of which can be displayed at any one time. However the displays are changed periodically and less valuable items may be handled by school groups. The museum is open between 9am and 5pm weekdays, but it may be inconvenient when the room is used for teaching (times vary, it is best to check with the secretary in advance, especially in term time). School groups must book in advance for a session (contact the Assistant Curator).

Archaeology in Kingston and Eastern Ontario, Canada
People have inhabited the area that is now Kingston for thousands of years. The region was home to native groups as early as 7000 B.C.E., to French traders and soldiers during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, to British and British-American settlers in the eighteenth century, and finally to some of the major figures of early Canada in the nineteenth century. Each of these cultures left its mark on the land; their various legacies contribute significantly to the Kingston of today, and in no field are those legacies more conspicuous than in that of archaeology. The Cataraqui Archaeological Research Foundation has designed this site to serve as an introduction to archaeology in general, to archaeology in Eastern Ontario specifically, to the services offered by the Cataraqui Archaeological Research Foundation (including private consulting ), and to the resources of the

CSA, the Center for the Study of Architecture/Archaeology, is devoted to
advancing the use of computers, computer technologies, and digital information
in the service of architectural history, archaeology, and related disciplines.

Citation information.
Search the CSA site. Welcome to the CSA Web site. CSA's aim is to encourage appropriate uses of computers and information technology by those involved in research in archaeology and architectural history - and those who will need the fruits of that research. The key word is appropriate. Particularly in these early stages of the digital era it is not easy to know how best to use the new computing power that has become available to us. Nor is it obvious which computers or computer technologies will turn out to be the best and most appropriate for a given use. Perhaps most important, it is all but impossible to predict which specific approaches to using computers to create digital information will thrive and which will turn out to have been dead ends. It is CSA's mission to help guide users and potential users of information technologies so that, at the least, they can make well-considered choices of computers and software in these poorly charted waters.
