  • 1. What jobs are available for archaeologists?
Professional archaeologists work for universities, colleges, museums, the federal government, state governments, in private companies, and as consultants. They teach, conduct field investigations, analyze artifacts and sites, and publish the results of their research. The minimal educational requirement to work as a field archaeologist is a B.A. or B.S. degree with a major in anthropology or archaeology and previous field experience (usually obtained by spending a summer in an archaeological field school or participating as a volunteer, see question 5). While this is sufficient to work on an archaeological field crew, it is not sufficient to move into supervisory roles. Supervisory positions require a graduate degree, either an M.A./M.S. or a Ph.D. Academic Positions Museum Positions . Museums may be connected with a university or independent. Museum curators conduct research, publish the results, give public presentations, prepare displays, and conserve the museum collections. Museum positions require a graduate degree (M.A./M.S. or Ph.D.). Museum positions are usually full-year appointments.

"In every instance where the findings of archaeology pertain to the Biblical record, the archaeological evidence confirms, sometimes in detailed fashion, the historical accuracy of Scripture. In those instances where the archaeological findings seem to be at variance with the Bible, the discrepancy lies with the archaeological evidence, i.e., improper interpretation, lack of evidence, etc. not with the Bible."
Dr. Bryant C. Wood, archaeologist, Associates for Biblical Research What is the most important archaeological work currently going on in terms of evidence for the truth of God's Word? At Tell el-Dab'a, ancient Ramesses, the eastern delta of Egypt, evidence is being recovered that relates to the Sojourn and Exodus - Events in Israelite history largely written off as legend by today's critical scholars. In the quest for knowledge and understanding of who we are as a human race and where we have come from, many scientific disciplines have been developed. One of the most fascinating of these disciplines is the field of archaeology. Every year thousands of scientists, students and volunteers converge on sites around the world, with the goal of unearthing secrets about our past. Because the cultures and societies under investigation have long ago passed from the scene, usually without a reliable written history, archaeologists must attempt to reconstruct the past primarily from the material remains that these ancient people groups have left behind. As archaeologists sift through the sand and dirt of a long-forgotten village site, they encounter tools of trade, weapons of warfare, and pottery that was used for storage, cooking, and eating. From the study and careful analysis of these material remains, many things can be discovered about these people that lived so long ago. Often it can be determined not only when they the people lived but, to a certain extent, how they lived - what they ate, what they wore, how they occupied their time, their technology, whether they were settled farmers or nomadic herdsmen, their diseases, their interaction with other cultures, how they worshiped, how they organized themselves into social groups, and, often, how they died. Over the last 40 years archaeology has made many advancements in procedure and methodology.

    What is archaeology?
The Bliss Bone Bed Site Archaeology is the scientific study of peoples of the past... their culture and their relationship with their environment. The purpose of archaeology is to understand how humans in the past interacted with their environment, and to preserve this history for present and future learning.
    What archaeology isn't.
Sometimes people get confused about what archaeology studies.
    Why study archaeology?
Archaeological sites are a non-renewable resource; that is, once they are destroyed, the information they contained is lost forever. By learning about life long ago through archaeology, we can learn many ecology and history lessons that are still applicable today.
