Ernst Friedrich Ferdinand Zermelo 27. Juli in Berlin 21. Mai in Freiburg im Breisgau ) war ein deutscher Mathematiker . Zermelo besuchte das Luisenstädtisches Gymnasium in Berlin bis zum Abitur . Er studierte Mathematik Physik und Philosophie an den Universitäten von Berlin, Halle (Saale) und Freiburg . Er graduierte und wurde für seine Doktorarbeit von der Universität Berlin ausgezeichnet. Dort studierte er unter Max Planck Hydrodynamik ging Zermelo nach Göttingen , damals das Weltzentrum der Mathematik. bekam Zermelo den Lehrstuhl für Mathematik an der Universität Zürich , den er wieder aufgab. Er arbeitete ab ehrenhalber in Freiburg im Breisgau, gab diese Arbeit als Protest gegen Hitler wieder auf. Nach dem 2. Weltkrieg bezog er seine Position wieder bis

Ernst Zermelo Nacque a Berlino nel 1871 e morì a Friburgo in Brisgovia nel 1953. Si interessò al calcolo delle variazioni e soprattutto alla teoria degli insiemi, di cui diede la prima formulazione assiomatica in sette postulati, il sesto dei quali, noto anche come assioma della scelta, ha profonde implicazioni concettuali e diede origine a vivaci discussioni circa la sua legittimità. Nel 1908, infatti egli mise in evidenza il fatto che Cantor assioma di Zermelo , o delle infinite scelte arbitrarie.
