George Wishart
George Wishart (c. March 1 ) was a Scottish religious reformer. He belonged to a younger branch of the Wisharts of Pitarrow. He seems to havegraduated M.A., probably at King's College, Aberdeen, and taught as a schoolmaster at Montrose. Accused of heresy in , he fled to England , where a similar charge was brought against him at Bristol in the following year. In 1539 or 1540 he started for Germany and Switzerland , and returning to England became a member of Corpus Christi College, Cambridge In he went to Scotland in the train of a Scottish embassy which had come to London to consider the treaty of marriage between Prince Edward (later Edward VI of England and the infant Mary I of Scotland . He may have been the Wishart who in April 1544 approached the English government with a proposal for getting rid of Cardinal David Beaton Roman Catholic historians such as Alphons Bellesheim, and Anglicans like Canon Dixon, have accepted the identification. However, there was another George Wishart, bailie of Dundee, who allied himself with Beaton's murderers; and Sir John Wishart (d. 1576), afterwards a Scottish judge, may also claim the doubtful distinction. His career as a preacher began in 1544, and the story has been told by his disciple

Neither the place nor the date of the birth of John Knox , the great Scottish Reformer, is settled beyond dispute; but the weightiest considerations favour Giffordgate, a suburb of the town of Haddington (16 m. e. of Edinburgh ) as the place, and 1513 or 1514 as the year. Early life
His father was William Knox, of fair, though not distinguished, descent, who fought at the Battle of Flodden , and had his home in the county of Haddington. His mother's name was Sinclair. He received the elements of a liberal education in Haddington, which possessed an excellent grammar school one of those schools originally monastic and due to the public spirit which, at least as regards education, animated the Scottish Church even before the Reformation. Thence he proceeded either to the University of Glasgow , where the name "John Knox" occurs among the incorporati in 1522, or to St. Andrews, where he is stated to have studied under the celebrated John Major, a native, like Knox, of

LAYOUT. First comes the name of the parents in BLOCK CAPITALS; then the births/baptisms of their children in chronological order. Usually two dates have been given, the first being the birth and the second the baptism. With children born and baptised in the same month, the year has only been given once - eg. for a person born 6 July 1849 and baptised 26 July 1849, it has been indexed either as 6/26 July 1849, but more usually as 6 July/26 July 1849. A dash (-) equates to no birth or baptismal entry in the original register.

WISHART, GEORGE His career as a preacher began in 1544, and the story has been told in glowing colors by his disciple John Knox. He went from place to place in peril of his life denouncing the errors of Rome and the abuses in the church at Montrose, Dundee, Ayr, in Kyle, at Perth, Edinburgh, Leith, Haddington and elsewhere. At Ormiston, in December 1545, he was seized by the earl of Bothwell, and transferred by order of the privy council to Edinburgh castle on January 19, 1546. Thence he was handed over to Cardinal Beaton, who had him burnt at St Andrews on March I. Reformation Scotland John Knox' House
High Street ("The Royal Mile") - John Knox' House: John Knox' House juts out into the street (left of center of the photo.) Built in 1490, the house is reputed to have been the manse of John Knox when he was minister of St. Giles'. The timber gallery and hand-painted ceiling are unusual features. John Knox was born a farmer in Haddington about 1514 (and not 1505 as the date on a window in his house records).
Knox died about age 58 in 1572. His first wife's brother was an ancestor of the present Queen. He studied at St. Andrews and was ordained a priest at about 25 years of age. He did not graduate as a Master of Arts however, probably because of an oath against "Lollardism" which graduates had to take. He tutored the children of gentlemen in East Lothian. John Knox was converted to Protestantism by the influence of the preaching of Thomas William. Because of persecution he moved from place to place. Protestants urged him to preach publicly.

Major esteve em Glasgow em 1522 e em St. Andrews em 1531. Quanto tempo Know permaneceu na universidade © incerto. Ele nunca teve aspira§µes a ser um acad©mico celebrado como os seus contempor¢neos George Buchanan e Alesius. N£o h¡ sequer provas de que se tenha graduado. Scotch Protestant The most prominent exponent of the new doctrines in Scotland at this time was George Wishart, who had come home from his travels in Germany a confirmed Protestant , and was expounding his tenets in Haddington and other parts of the Scottish Lowlands. Bitterly hostile to Cardinal Beaton, the great champion of the Catholic cause, Wishart (whose most devoted adherent and disciple at this time was Knox) was deeply involved in the intrigues of the Protestant party with Henry VIII of England for the kidnapping or murder of the cardinal. Wishart was arrested in January, 1546, and burned at St. Andrews on 1 March; and on 29 May Beaton was murdered at the same place in revenge for Wishart's death. The assassination was approved and applauded by Knox, who describes the deed with a gleeful and mocking levity strangely unbecoming in a Christian preacher, though his panegyrists speak of it merely as his "vein of humour". Some months later we find him, with his pupils, shut up in the castle of St. Andrews, which Beaton's murderers and their friends held for some months against the regent Arran and the Government. On 31 July, 1547, the besiegers being reinforced by a large French fleet, the castle was surrendered, and Knox was imprisoned with some others for nineteen months on board the French galleys and at Rouen. His captivity, however, was not rigorous enough to prevent him from writing a theological treatise, and preaching to his fellow prisoners.

Word: Word Starts with Ends with Definition In statistics Statistics is the science and practice of developing human knowledge through the use of empirical data. It is based soundly on statistical theory which is a branch of applied mathematics. Within statistical theory, randomness and uncertainty are modelled by probability theory. Statistical practice includes the planning, summarizing, and interpreting of uncertain observations. Because the aim of statistics is to produce the "best" information from available data, some authors make statistics a branch of decision theory.
Click the link for more information. , the Wishart distribution , named in honor of John Wishart, is any of a family of probability distributions In mathematics, a probability distribution assigns to every interval of the real numbers a probability, so that the probability axioms are satisfied. In technical terms, a probability distribution is a probability measure whose domain is the Borel algebra on the reals. A probability distribution is a special case of the more general notion of a probability measure, which is a function that assigns probabilities satisfying the Kolmogorov axioms to the measurable sets of a measurable space.
