63. 04/17/97 Committee On The Judiciary - Wilson Statement
HR 865 SUMMARY. edwin M. wilson. edwin wilson (SMSgt, USAF, Retired).211 Robin Hood Drive. Clarksville, Tennessee 37042. (615) 6477689.

H.R. 865 SUMMARY
Edwin M. Wilson
As a federal employee at Fort Campbell Army Installation, I respectfully request that you restrain the Commonwealth of Kentucky from taxing those individuals who, by virtue of their federal employment, receive income on the Kentucky portion of the federal government property (Fort Campbell).
I believe I should not be taxed to pay for services to which I am denied access. Kentucky has demonstrated lack of support to us, by refusing state benefits, otherwise given to taxpayers (fire and law protection, road repairs, resident hunting, fishing permits, in-state educational rates, etc.).
The Kentucky government has caused me to incur a debt of approximately $18,000, beyond in-state rates, to educate my daughter in a state funded college, subsidized by my tax dollars (University of Kentucky).
Kentucky does not, in any form: support, contribute, enhance or accept responsibility for my ability to do my job on the federal installation at Fort Campbell. I enter the federal property of Fort Campbell well inside the Tennessee designated areas, and at no time use any facilities or roads that are the responsibility of Kentucky.
The Commanwealth of Kentucky has demonstrated a greed to tax those Tenneaseans working for the federal government on this military reservation without any intention of providing consideration for that taxation. It is equivalent of a two tiered citizenship. Those with privileges and those without - both being equally taxed by Kentucky.

USD (hardcover only) A. Edwin Wilson, having reached his eightieth year and still very active in the ministry of the Word, is one of the great Bible teachers of our times. He is a man who, for the past fifty years, day after day could be found in his study long before sunrise, delving into the Word of God in anticipation of a hungry, waiting people to whom he ministered. A native Texan, Rev. Wilson received his formal education at Howard Payne University and Southern Baptist Seminary. While in seminary during the years 1928 - 1930 he studied under such giants of that day as John R. Sampey, A. T. Robertson, and William Hersey Davis, men whose impact upon his life can still be seen in his ministry today. Returning to the West following seminary, Rev. Wilson taught school for a short time in New Mexico. He then pastored churches during the 1930's and 1940's in the Texas towns and cities of Lometa, Whon, Comanche, Robstown, and Amarillo. During his ministry in Amarillo, and for many years thereafter, he also held an annual series of Bible classes in Clovis, New Mexico. In 1950 Rev. and Mrs. Wilson were led of the Lord to leave their native state of Texas and move to Chattanooga, Tennessee. In Chattanooga, Rev. Wilson assumed the directorship of the Southern Hebrew Mission - a position which he held until January, 1980. In 1951, in addition to his work with the mission, Rev. Wilson became pastor of the Daytona Heights Baptist Church in Red Bank, Tennessee - a position he also held until January, 1980. At that time he resigned his position with both the mission and the church in view of other areas of ministry as the Lord should lead.

James Q. Wilson Will Deliver Edwin L. Godkin Lecture Series
James Q. Wilson, the James Collins Professor of Management and Public Policy at UCLA, will deliver this year's Edwin L. Godkin Lecture Series, entitled "It's Not My Fault: Law, Science, and Personal Responsibility."
In a telephone interview, Wilson stated, "In the aftermath of several prominent criminal trials, some observers have criticized American justice for being too vulnerable to an 'abuse excuse.' I hope to examine that possibility in a way that shifts the grounds of this important debate."
He will deliver the first lecture, "Self-Control," on Monday, April 15, at 8 p.m. in the Kennedy School of Government's ARCO Forum of Public Affairs. The second lecture, "Self-Defense," and the third lecture, "Law and Responsibility," will be delivered on April 16 and 17, respectively, at 7 p.m. in Starr Auditorium at the Kennedy School. All three lectures are open to the public.
James Q. Wilson has been the James Collins Professor of Management and Public Policy at UCLA since 1985. Before that, he was the Shattuck Professor of Government at Harvard for 26 years. He has authored or coauthored 13 books, including

http://www.ciw.edu/Hubble.html
EDWIN HUBBLE Probably the greatest observational astronomer of our century, Edwin P. Hubble was a staff astronomer at Carnegie Institution's Mount Wilson Observatory, California, from 1919 until his death in 1953. His arrival coincided roughly with the completion of the Mount Wilson 100-inch Hooker Telescope, then the world's most powerful telescope. Hubble's observations in 1923-1924 with the Hooker Telescope established beyond doubt that the fuzzy "nebulae" seen earlier with less powerful telescopes were not part of our galaxy, as had been assumed, but were galaxies themselves, external to the Milky Way. Subsequently, with Milton Humanson, Hubble discovered the velocity-distance relation, which led to the concept of the expanding universe. The general picture of the universe established in his work remains at the heart of present-day cosmology. The orbiting Space Telescope is named in his honor. Biographical information:

STATEMENT OF MARK CORALLO, DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC AFFAIRS,
ON THE EDWIN WILSON CASE:
“In a hearing today in the Southern District of Texas, the Department of Justice announced that it will not pursue a retrial of the 1983 prosecution of Edwin Wilson . The decision not to retry the case was based on a careful review of all the circumstances surrounding it, including the difficulty of marshalling the facts and witnesses after 21 years. While our decision resolves the case in Texas, Wilson’s convictions in the Eastern District of Virginia for unauthorized exporting of firearms and his convictions in the Southern District of New York for attempted murder, obstruction of justice and witness tampering remain undisturbed. Wilson, who is 75 years old, will be eligible for release from prison in the Fall of 2004, and will remain on supervised release thereafter.” Source: Justice Department

Wilson Archive Edwin Hubble, Ph.D. Dr. Edwin Hubble (1889-1953) is probably one of the most famous observational astronomers of the 20th century. He is credited with many amazing discoveries and his findings revolutionized celestial theories. His research continues to form the basis of current astronomical research. Dr. Hubble was born in Marshfield, Missouri, to Virginia Lee James from Virginia City, Nevada, and John Powell Hubble from Missouri. He received his BS from the University of Chicago in 1910 and was awarded a Rhodes scholarship to Oxford University in the same year where he went on to earn an MA. In 1913 he passed the bar and practiced law until he gave it up for astronomy. In 1914 he returned to the Yerkes Observatory at the University of Chicago to work on his doctoral work in astronomy. In 1917 he received his Ph.D. in astronomy. He was invited to join the Mt. Wilson observatory staff in Pasadena, California, but the day after he finished his doctoral thesis and took the oral examination he enlisted with the US Army to take part in World War I. He was commissioned a captain and later attained the rank of major. He was discharged from the Army in 1919 and immediately moved to Mt. Wilson to accept the position he'd been offered before the war.
