ISBN: 1-903468-09-4 check out website: www.bigengine.co.uk T heopolytes, Alexander the Great's most trusted general, is charged with retrieving the treasure of Darius the Persian king and taking it to a secret location. While he is doing this, Alexander dies, so Theopolytes defies the order of Ptolemy, founder of the Graeco Egyptian Pharaonic dynasty and decides to preserve the hoard in preparation for Alexander's second coming. The premise here being that as Alexander's ability to cause destruction, slaughter and conquest on a scale perceived by some to be miraculous, the man must have been immortal. So could Hitler if you believe that - not a pretty prospect. Fortunately, in Alexander's case, there is the hint that this is due to alien interference. The author has an accurate sense of period and place. How accurate, I am not qualified to judge. Inevitably it is difficult to put words into the mouths of characters who lived three centuries BC.

Alexander Wilson was educated at the University of St Andrews. After this he was an apprentice to a surgeon in St Andrews, then he moved to London. In 1739 he returned to St Andrews and, in 1742, he set up a type foundry. Two years later he moved to Glasgow where, in 1760, he was appointed to the chair of astronomy, a post he held until 1784. Wilson made many observations of sunspots using a geometric argument to show that they were depressions in the Sun. A similar theory had been proposed by La Hire and by Cassini Wilson also published Thoughts on General Gravitation (1770), in which he attempted to answer Newton 's question What hinders the fixed stars from falling upon one another. Wilson's answer, that the entire universe rotates about a centre, is of course incorrect. He was awarded an honorary degree by the University of St Andrews in 1763 and was a founding member of the Royal Society of Edinburgh

Alexander Wilson Alexander Wilson was an early American ornithologist, bird artist, and poet born in Scotland, Wilson emigrated to America in 1793, worked as a weaver, then became a teacher in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Under the guidance of William Bartram, he undertook his epic American Ornithology which appeared in nine volumes between 1808 and 1814. As far north as Wilmington, in North Carolina, I met with the Ivory-billed Woodpecker. I killed two, and winged a male, who alarmed the whole town of Wilmington, screaming exactly like a young child crying violently, so that everybody supposed I had a baby under the apron of my chair, till I took out the bird to prevent the people from stopping me, This bird I confined in the room I was to sleep in, and in less than half an hour he made his way through the plaster, the lath, and partly through the weather boards; and would have escaped, if I had not accidentally come in. THOMAS MCCLURE RICE
“Elizabeth, pack up the children and belongings. We’re going to Texas!” Thomas McClure Rice heard the call for settlers to come to Texas while living in the Rainbow community just outside of Marietta, Washington County, Ohio. Thomas was probably born there about 1801 and was the only son of Nathan and Jemima (McClure) Rice with two older and two younger sisters. Elizabeth emigrated from Ireland in 1818. This beautiful area where the Ohio and Muskingum Rivers converge was the first organized American settlement in the Northwest Territory. The town of Marietta was formed in 1788 by a group of veterans of the Revolutionary War. It was named after Marie Antoinette, the French Queen who had aided the young country in its battle for independence from Great Britain. Ohio was admitted as a slave-free state in 1803. In a few short years, the area was a major riverboat community, with busy steamboat building yards, brick factories and sawmills . Thomas and Elizabeth married in Marietta on September 28, 1824. Before migrating to Texas, Thomas and Elizabeth had four children. James and Mary L. were born between 1825 and 1829. No confirmed birth dates are available for either. Mary L. could have been named after Thomas’ oldest sister, Luceba. 1830 brought Oliver Hugh (named after Thomas’ grandfather and Elizabeth’s father) and William Wilson was born in 1835. All four of these children were born in Ohio. (Footnote: census records). We know nothing of their trip to Texas. Why did they leave Ohio? Thomas did not inherit any land from his father, only his father’s clothes. During this time in history, the usual thing was for the eldest son to inherit the land. Thomas was the middle of four sisters, no brothers. Who did they make the long trip to Texas with? How long did it take them? Did they travel as a family by riverboat to New Orleans then to Galveston? We might never know for sure. Did Thomas come to Texas and later send for Elizabeth and the children or go back to Ohio to get them?
