Proposition: Marriage By Eileen Wilks, September 1999, Series Romance
Silhouette Desire #1239, $3.75, 185 pages, ISBN #0-373-76239-9
Grade: B- Sensuality: Hot Proposition: Marriage has one of the best beginnings I've ever read in a romance. The hero and heroine meet in one of the most exciting ways imaginable, the hero is dashing and sexy, and the heroine is laugh-out-loud funny. After the amazing start, the rest of the book seems commonplace. Still, it's a solid read series fans are likely to enjoy. When Jane Smith finds herself chest deep in water hiding from men with guns, she knows her vacation to San Tomas has taken a turn for the worse. Not only is she getting filthy and likely to be discovered by the men at any moment - she also has a giant, ugly bug crawling on her arm. From another hiding place behind her, a man who calls himself "John" is watching. As a covert operative with bigger fish to fry, he knows he shouldn't get involved in this situation. But when he realizes that the brave woman he has been watching is about to be discovered, he interferes, disabling the guerillas and helping Jane to safety. As they walk through a rainforest toward a safe town, the sexual tension sizzles between them, and an emotional encounter with a poisonous snake pushes them both past the boiling point. They end up having hot sex - and I do mean hot - in the forest. Then "John" takes Jane to safety and he leaves without even a goodbye.

44. MORBUS ADDISONII.
Sir samuel wilks was Addison s deputy, and after the latter s death took overthe research into Addison s disease. Here is his report on 25 cases.
http://wehner.org/addison/wilks/
The Wilks Report
Guy's Hospital Reports SERIES 3 VOL 8, 1862
Introduced by Charles Douglas Wehner
After Addison`s publication, cases began to be reported in ever growing numbers. These were the days when tuberculosis was widespread. Addison`s disease is in fact Adrenal Tuberculosis , but this was unknown. The softened tubercles looked so unlike lung tubercles. Even the simple fact that the adrenal glands are chemical in their action was only discovered in the twentieth century - so the action of steroids in softening the tubercles, and so disguising their nature was not known. Samuel Wilks M.D. - later Sir Samuel Wilks - was a collaborator of Addison. After the death of Addison in 1860, the job of examining specimens from all over the country - with a view to confirming or denying the diagnosis of Addison`s disease - fell to him. He was therefore well placed to see many cases of adrenal tubercle softened down by steroids - the typical outcome. He then took issue with Addison over his inclusion of cases of adrenal sepsis and of adrenal cancer in his book. Even though the disease proper ALWAYS presents softened tubercles - and can be defined as a disease entity in its own right, the inclusion of other forms of destruction of the adrenals in Addison`s book was not strictly wrong.

The Life of Savage
By Samuel Johnson
The text is taken from George Birkbeck Hill's edition of The Lives of the Poets . Please send all corrections and comments to Jack Lynch [1] IT has been observed in all ages that the advantages of nature or of fortune have contributed very little to the promotion of happiness; and that those whom the splendour of their rank or the extent of their capacity have placed upon the summits of human life, have not often given any just occasion to envy in those who look up to them from a lower station: whether it be that apparent superiority incites great designs, and great designs are naturally liable to fatal miscarriages; or that the general lot of mankind is misery, and the misfortunes of those whose eminence drew upon them an universal attention have been more carefully recorded, because they were more generally observed, and have in reality been only more conspicuous than those of others, not more frequent, or more severe. [2] That affluence and power, advantages extrinsick and adventitious, and therefore easily separable from those by whom they are possessed, should very often flatter the mind with expectations of felicity which they cannot give, raises no astonishment: but it seems rational to hope that intellectual greatness should produce better effects; that minds qualified for great attainments should first endeavour their own benefit; and that they who are most able to teach others the way to happiness should with most certainty follow it themselves.

    PROPOSITION: MARRIAGE by Eileen Wilks
    Silhouette Desire #1239 September 1999; $3.75 paperback 185 pages; ISBN 0-373-76239-9
Sizzling with enough action and intrigue to satisfy all Eileen Wilks' fans. Grade school teacher Jane Smith survived a memorable vacation and is now home, in Atherton, Kansas, attempting to recover. A near-death escape, a handsome spy who called himself John, and an unforgettable afternoon of raw, passionate sex in the steamy jungle that rocked the foundation of her world. The seductive spy saved her; made her shed all inhibition, and stole her heart, but that was Oz and she's returned to sane, sensible Kansas never expecting to see her rescuer again. Samuel Charmaneaux has unfinished business with Jane Smith. She might be carrying his child and the lonely boy buried beneath a veneer of commando hardness, prays for it to be a fact. Now an ex-spy, Samuel hungers for normalcy, and what could be more normal then Atherton and Jane? Her laughter feeds his starved soul; her kisses make him loose control, and her smile pierces his heart. He wants to bind her to him in every way possible, and a child would do just that, but can he give her his heart when he doesn't even know if he still possess one? Eileen Wilks' latest novel roars into action with an unrelenting pace that doesn't stop until the final page. Romance hot enough to scorch fuels a plot old as the ages as Samuel and Jane fight the attraction that draws them together, unable to resist the lure or memory of their jungle encounter that seared their hearts, forever binding them in the dance of love. Once you crack the cover be prepared to sit through the show, because this one is all but impossible to put down.
