John James Walker 's father, John Walker, was the headmaster of various schools. In fact Walker attended London High School, the school at which his father was then headmaster until his father moved to become headmaster of Plymouth New Grammar School. Walker completed his school education at Plymouth New Grammar School before entering Trinity College Dublin as an undergraduate. Although his father's family were originally from Yorkshire, several generations had lived in Ireland. His mother's family were English but Walker followed his father's family tradition in attending Trinity College Dublin. Walker's grandfather had been a fellow of Trinity and published classical texts as well as elementary mathematics and logic texts. Things were not entirely straightforward for Walker at Dublin for his family had ceased to be conformists so he was debarred from holding a scholarship. To add to his problems his father died young and Walker was left having little in the way of funds to see out his education. However he excelled at Trinity College, winning gold medals for both mathematics and physics as well as winning other distinctions. After Walker graduated he became tutor to the Guinness family, a wealthy Irish family who had made their money from brewing. Arthur Guinness bought a small brewery in Dublin which began brewing a dark beer with a rich head in 1799; this became the national beer of Ireland. Walker became a private tutor to the family in 1853, two years before the death of the founder Arthur Guinness, and he continued as a tutor until 1862.

John Walker Crime Trends Analysis
G'day!
By accident or design, you've found the Home Page of John Walker Crime Trends Analysis services. If you've been wondering what the real story is about trends in crime and justice in Australia and elsewhere, this is a good place to start. I started my working life with ten years of applying systems analytic techniques to areas as diverse as space research, transportation economics, and urban and regional planning, before turning my attention to questions of crime and justice. For those wondering how to get into a career as a criminologist, I should say that in my case it was a complete accident. Some years after using suburban crime statistics as measures of social dysfunction in an urban planning study, I was encouraged to apply for a vacancy at the Australian Institute of Criminology and discovered that that earlier statistical work was regarded highly by the criminological community, which at that time was not very numerate. So, for the last 25 years, I've specialised as a criminologist, applying the same analytical skills to the analysis and development of public policy in the Criminal Justice System. As a result of applying those analytical skills, I have been able to assist government and international agencies to plan and evaluate policy options through an understanding of the impacts of:

Nanotechnology in Manufacturing
Ever since I read K. Eric Drexler's Engines of Creation I'd been interested in nanotechnology and followed the relevant literature while trying to figure out, as is my wont, how to make a buck out of it. As one of the designers of Xanadu and an ardent supporter of the project, Eric became acquainted with Autodesk when we invested in Xanadu in 1988. When Eric saw a demo of HyperChem at a conference, he immediately realised that the fit between Autodesk and Hypercube, Inc., developers of HyperChem, was potentially very good. When Eric and Chris Peterson spoke to me about this opportunity, I finally saw not only an opportunity for Autodesk to establish itself in the scientific modeling market, but also a way to position ourselves to benefit from the advent of nanotechnology, if and when it emerged, for surely one could not design atomically-precise structures without a molecular CAD system, which is precisely what a molecular modeling package is. In early 1989, I prepared this talk about the consequences of nanotechnology to help tilt the balance in favour of the HyperChem deal. The talk was delivered at the Autodesk technology forum on May 10, 1990, before an audience which included Eric Drexler, Chris Peterson, and Neil Ostlund, founder and president of HyperCube, the designer of HyperChem.

27. Proposed Methodology For Estimating Global Money Laundering
This paper by john walker presents the design of a model for estimating flows of money laundering around the world. Using a comparatively simple crimeeconomic model, constructed from readily available international databases, it closely predicts a range of such expert assessments, and offers a framework for determining and monitoring the size of money laundering flows around the world.

Trends in Crime and Justice in Australia Projecting Prison Populations Projecting Future Crime Rates ... Deaths in Community Corrections Modelling Global Money Laundering Flows - some findings Summary: This web page gives a general overview of the methodology and some interim results. Presentations made in June 1999, to the KriminalExpo in Budapest (with special emphasis on Eastern Europe) and to the "Cyberlaundering" conference in Trento (including global estimates of money laundering via the Internet), are also available. Comments on this model are welcome and should be sent to born1820@ozemail.com.au Background In early 1998, the retiring chairman of the O.E.C.D.'s Financial Action Task Force (FATF) Working Group on Statistics and Methods, Mr Stanley Morris, stated that "the need to estimate the size of money laundering and quantify its constituent parts has been a concern of the FATF since its initial report." His report identified at least four areas of legitimate demand for quantitative measures of money laundering:
  • Understanding the magnitude of the crime , so that law enforcement authorities, national legislators, and international organizations can reach agreement on the place of counter-money laundering programs within national and international enforcement and regulatory agendas.

in full JOHN ERNEST WALKER (b. Jan. 7, 1941, Halifax, Yorkshire, Eng.), British chemist who was corecipient, with Paul D. Boyer , of the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 1997 for their explanation of the enzymatic process that creates adenosine triphosphate (ATP) . (Danish chemist Jens C. Skou also shared the award for separate research on the molecule.) After receiving his doctorate from the University of Oxford in 1969, Walker undertook research projects at universities in the United States and Paris. His award-winning work was conducted at the University of Cambridge in the Medical Research Council Laboratory of Molecular Biology, which he joined in 1974, becoming senior scientist in 1982. In the early 1980s Walker began studying ATP synthasethe central energy-producing molecule in most life formswhich aides in the synthesis of ATP, the carrier of chemical energy. Focusing on the chemical and structural composition of the enzyme, he determined the sequence of amino acids that make up the synthase's protein units. In the 1990s, working with X-ray crystallographers, Walker clarified the three-dimensional structure of the enzyme. His work supported Boyer's "binding change mechanism," which explained the unusual way in which the enzyme functions. Walker's findings offer insight into the way life forms produce energy.

Statement of John Walker's family
(CNN) Statement issued by the family of John Walker following the U.S. Justice Department's announcement that the American Taliban fighter would be tried on several charges, including conspiracy to kill Americans abroad. We are heartened by news reports that John will soon be coming home. We are anxious to see him, to know his condition first-hand, and to tell him we love him. We are also grateful for the medical treatment and care John has received from U.S. Military authorities during this time. To them, we extend our sincere thanks. MORE STORIES Walker charged with murder conspiracy Bush made decision on Walker 10 days ago We are disappointed, however, that the government has held and interrogated John for 45 days without allowing him any messages from his family or access to his attorney. We have written numerous letters to John since his capture on December 1. The International Committee of the Red Cross has tried to deliver three letters we have written to John, but in each instance has not been allowed to do so. In those letters, we told John that we love him and support him. We also told him that he has a lawyer who is trying to see him and help him.

WALKER, JOHN GEORGE (1822-1893). John George Walker, United States and Confederate Army officer, railroad agent, and United States consul, was born in Cole County, Missouri, on July 22, 1822, the son of John G. and Sarah (Caffery) Walker. His father served as Missouri state treasurer. After graduating from Jesuit College (now St. Louis University), Walker was commissioned in May 1846 as a first lieutenant in Company K of Col. Persifor F. Smith's qv Mounted Rifle regiment for service in the Mexican War. qv Walker saw action in the battles of Contreras, Churubusco, and Molino del Rey, in the last of which he was severely wounded. He was brevetted to the rank of captain on August 1, 1847, for "gallant and meritorious conduct" in a skirmish at San Juan de los Llanos. After the war Walker saw duty in Arizona, California, Oregon, and New Mexico and became a captain on June 30, 1851. He served on the Texas frontier against the Indians from 1854 to 1856. Several of his reports describing his exploring expeditions through Navajo territory in 1859 have been published in The Navajo Reconnaissance (1963). Walker reportedly married Mellissa Smith on July 6, 1856. On April 10, 1858, he married Sophie M. Baylor in New Orleans. She was the sister of the writer Frances Courtenay Baylor, the niece of John R., Henry W., and George Wythe Baylor

Walker, John E. I was born in Halifax, Yorkshire on January 7th, 1941 to Thomas Ernest Walker and Elsie Walker (née Lawton). My father was a stone mason, and a talented amateur pianist and vocalist. I was brought up with my two younger sisters, Judith and Jennifer, in a rural environment overlooking the Calder valley near Elland, and then in Rastrick. I received an academic education at Rastrick Grammar School, specializing in Physical Sciences and Mathematics in the last three years. I was a keen sportsman, and became school captain in soccer and cricket. In 1960, I went to St. Catherine's College, Oxford, and received the B.A. degree in Chemistry in 1964. In 1965, I began research on peptide antibiotics with E. P. Abraham in the Sir Willian Dunn School of Pathology, Oxford, and was awarded the D. Phil. degree in 1969. During this period, I became aware of the spectacular developments made in Cambridge in the 1950s and early 1960s in Molecular Biology through a series of programmes on BBC television given by John Kendrew, and published in 1966 under the title "The Thread of Life". These programmes made a lasting impression on me, and made me want to know more about the subject. Two books, "Molecular Biology of the Gene" by J. D. Watson, first published in 1965, and William Hayes' "Bacterial Genetics" helped to assuage my appetite for more information.

Online books by john Runnings, outlining his antiwar concepts and chronicling his many years of peace activism.
http://www.members.shaw.ca/cmdiduck
Welcome to John Runnings' website!
Here we will share with you John's thoughts about Gandhian politics, world peace and his actions against the Berlin Wall.
John is known as "The Wall Walker" and "The Father of the Stonepeckers" for his efforts from 1986-1989 in helping bring down the Berlin Wall. For over twenty years John has tirelessly put himself on the "front Lines" internationally and often at personal risk, to help bring his anti-war concepts of "vulnerable challenge" and "universal civil law" to the public. In 1962, in response to the American involvement in the Vietnam War, he and his wife join the "peace movement" in Seattle with the Quakers. After 15 years of sporadic efforts in this direction, U.S. troops were withdrawn from Vietnam and John changed the focus of his anti-war effort to protesting the arms race between the U.S. and the U.S.S.R. The U.S. was building a base near Seattle for the trident Submarine which was said to be capable of destroying the major cities of the Soviet Union. At a Quaker meeting, John learned of "Gandhian" political tactics and began to contemplate similar action against militarily drawn and imposed property lines worldwide. He continued to develop his political ideas to the end that property the world wide over, be administered in the light of his concepts of "vulnerable challenge" and "universal civil law".

The case of the Taliban American
John Walker Lindh, a 20-year-old American from California, was captured while fighting for the Taliban. (CNN) John Walker Lindh spent his formative years in an affluent Northern California community known for its tolerance and open-mindedness. So how did he end up training in al Qaeda camps and fighting on the Taliban front lines in Afghanistan? In interviews conducted with CNN and U.S. military and intelligence sources, the once seemingly typical Marin County, California, teen revealed a journey of spiritual zeal, linguistic and cultural education and battlefield training that ended with Walker Lindh bloodied and dazed after a prison uprising last November near Mazar-e Sharif. "He's not someone that would, that I would have ever imagined, could pick up a gun at all," said his father Frank Lindh, who separated from Marilyn Walker about two years ago.

The FBI office in Hyannis received few calls, certainly nothing like the phone traffic handled in the Boston office or other Bureau offices in major American cities. Moreover, the existence of the Hyannis office itself might present a puzzle to anyone asking why the FBI would want to have an office in the Massachusetts heartland of wealthy landowners and rich vacationers, an area absent of serious crime, let alone spies. The office in Hyannis, of course, had been established by J. Edgar Hoover at the time John Fitzgerald Kennedy was president, mostly to provide on-hand agents to serve the Kennedy clan. Hoover had not opened the FBI satellite office out of good will and concern for the Kennedy's whom he despised. It was the expedient thing to do, just as transferring Barbara Walker's call to Hyannis was the expedient thing to do-it gave the Hyannis agents some work. On November 29, 1984, an
