Sir: We have the honor to transmit report for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1912. The officers and employees of the commission are as follows: Three commissioners, one engineer, one assistant superintendent, one rodman, one store and time keeper, one messenger, one hostler, and four guards. Employees by the day: Two inspectors, three artisans. Laborers for the spring, summer, and autumn months are as follows: For July, 1911, 35 laborers; August, 36; September, 36; October, 34; November, 34; December, 5; January, 1912, 7; February, 2; March, 6; April, 28; May, 37; June, 37. LAND The land purchased during the year was as follows: A portion of the Culp farm, lying east of East Confederate Avenue, containing 80.7 acres, and a small tract of said farm, lying west of said avenue, containing 2.02 acres. A tract of land containing 1.83 acres was acquired from William Bushman for constructing an avenue from the Taneytown Road near Gen. Meade's headquarters to the Baltimore Pike, passing through the positions of Rugg's and Kinzie's United States Artillery. An additional plat adjoining the Bushman tract, containing 1.09 acres, will be required to be purchased to complete said avenue, and belongs to C. C. Rider, who asks a large sum for a very small portion of land in view of the bids having been already received for building said avenue. We respectfully recommend that the said plat be acquired by condemnation proceedings.

July 1, 1907 Sir: We have the honor to submit the annual report of the Commissioners of the Gettysburg National Park Commission for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1907. The engineers have been on duty every day, except holidays, either on the field or in the offices of the Commission. On the field, they have been engaged in laying out work for the contractors and for the regular employees of the Commission; surveying the lines and fixing the grades of new avenues to be constructed; determining the places for underdraining, locating catch basins and pipe walls; staking out the sites of monuments, markers tablets and gun carriages; surveying land to be acquired and staking out fence lines and stone walls to be erected and rebuilt. Preliminary work generally in the first instance; all of which must be examined and approved by the Commission before it is established and carried into effect. When the Commission took charge of the battlefield in 1893, under the Secretary of War, a complete system of records was established and maintained by the chairman, so that copies of all important papers, tracings of all drawings, and copies of all blueprints and white prints are preserved in bound volumes immediately accessible. Every document letter, drawing, etc., referring to contracts is bound and placed on file.

American Theories of Polygenesis Introduction Monogenesis, as the term was understood by natural historians in the middle of the nineteenth century, was the theory that all human beings shared the same origin. Polygenesis, by contrast, was the theory that at least some of the races had a separate origin. Because the Bible had been almost universally understood as maintaining that all human beings were descended from a single pair, there had been few upholders of polygenesis in Christian Europe throughout most of its history. However, in the middle of the nineteenth century polygenesis became widespread, particularly in the United States. Part of the reason for this was the problem of reconciling the biblical account with certain new pieces of historical and scientific evidence. Prae-Adamitae was published in 1655, but within a year of publication, he was forced to recant. Vito Acconci Alice Adams Herbert Adams , founder and three times president of the National Sculpture Society was born in Vermont in 1858 and died in New York in 1945. Adams was educated in a "common school," attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the Massachusetts Normal Art School and taught at the Art School of Pratt Institute. Adams was the recipient of honors including the gold medals of the Philadelphia Art Club, Charleston Exposition, Louisiana Purchase Exposition, of the National Academy of Design, National Institute of Arts and Letters, medal of honor Panama-Pacific Exposition. Adams was elected to the National Institute of Arts and Letter in 1899 and the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 1912. John Ahearn and Rigoberto Torres began their collaboration in 1979. They met at Fashion Moda, a South Bronx alternative space where Ahearn was producing a collection of plaster cast busts of people from the neighborhood. Rigoberto Torres was one of Ahearn's subjects. Torres also worked with plaster casting to create religious statues and copies of famous works of art in his uncle's shop. John Ahearn was born in Binghamton, New York in 1951. He received a BFA degree from Cornell University, Ithaca in 1973. Ahearn began making life casts in 1979 while working in Manhattan with an artists' collective called Colab and soon found new subjects in the South Bronx. Ahearn's work was exhibited at Fashion Moda in 1979 in an exhibition entitled
