    Grandes Economistas Jan Tinbergen (1903 - 1994)
    Premio Nobel

Tinbergen, Jan Tinbergen (1903-94) studied physics at the University of Leiden. His PhD thesis (1929) also regarded minimum problems in economics, and he was recruited to work on business cycles by the Dutch Central Statistical Bureau Office (1929-45). He taught statistics at the University of Amsterdam from 1931. In 1936 he was invited by the League of Nations to work out a statistical analysis of the business cycles theories classified by Haberler . He was part-time (1933-55) and later full-time (until 1973) professor at the Netherlands School of Economics in Rotterdam, visited Harvard in between and was director of the Central Planning Bureau in The Hague (1945-55). He chaired the United Nations Committee on Development Planning (1966-75), was professor of international cooperation at the University of Leiden. 46. Classification Of Economic Systems
Formulated by the Dutch economist jan tinbergen and popular especially in 1960 s. jantinbergen Do Communist and Free Economies Show a Converging Pattern?
    http://econc10.bu.edu/economic_systems/lecture_notes/introduction/intro_types_of
INTRODUCTION Classification of Economic Systems One-dimensional Classification Traditionally textbooks of Economics presented what can be described as 'one-dimensional' classification of economic systems. Pure capitalism and pure socialism were located on the opposite sides of the picture with a linear spectrum of 'mixed economies' between them. "It is best to think of Capitalism and Socialism as occupying opposite ends of an economic spectrum. Countries' economies lie along the spectrum: some are closer to the capitalist end, and some are closer to the socialist end."(Roger A. Arnold: Economics, Third Edition, West Publishing Company, 1996, page 812.) The pure systems were usually presented as hypothetical extremes that do not exist in real world. All the real economies were considered a mixture of elements of both capitalism and socialism. Each country had specific shares of the two pure systems in its mixture. So for example USA was close to pure capitalism, with only minor admixture of socialist elements, but France or Great Britain had much larger dose of socialism in their mixtures. Similarly USSR was close to pure socialism, but Yugoslavia although prevailingly socialist was a significant step away in the direction of capitalism Such a characterization appears, for example, in the textbook "Introduction to Economic Reasoning" by William D. Rohlf, Jr. (Fourth edition, Addison - Wesley, 1998, page 48) "No existing system adheres strictly to either pure capitalism or pure command socialism. All real-world economies are mixed economies; they represent a blending of the two models."

    In Memoriam Jan Tinbergen

In 1969 Dutch economist Jan Tinbergen, along with Norwegian economist Ragnar Frisch, received the first Nobel Prize in economics. He received the award for his work in econometrics and economic measurement. Tinbergen, who earned a Ph.D. in physics, had become interested in economics while working on his dissertation. His 1929 dissertation was titled "Minimum Problems in Physics and Economics." He began to apply mathematical tools to economics, which, at the time, was relatively verbal and nonmathematical. In 1929 he joined a unit of the Dutch Central Bureau of Statistics to do research on business cycles. He stayed there until 1945, with a leave of absence from 1936 to 1938 to work for the League of Nations in Geneva. Along with Frisch and others Tinbergen developed the field of econometrics, the use of statistical tools to test economic hypotheses. Tinbergen was one of the first economists to create multiequation models of economies. He produced a twenty-seven-equation econometric model of the Dutch economy. And in 1939 he published a book, Business Cycles in the United States, 1919-1932

    June 14, 1994 OBITUARY
Jan Tinbergen, Dutch Economist and Nobel Laureate, Dies at 91
    By PETER PASSELL
The Associated Press Jan Tinbergen, 1969 an Tinbergen, the Dutch economist and Nobel laureate whose technical accomplishments and passion for effective public policy have led some to compare him with John Maynard Keynes, died last Thursday at the age of 91. News of his death was withheld by his family until yesterday to allow his funeral to take place without publicity. Mr. Tinbergen was trained as a physicist (he received a doctoral degree in the subject from the University of Leyden) but switched to economics in the late 1920's. During the early 1930's he was a professor of development planning at the University of Rotterdam and staff member of the Dutch Central Bureau of Statistics, where he applied mathematical techniques from the sciences to the question of why industrial output fluctuated in nonrandom ways the classic puzzle of the business cycle. As an adviser to the Social Democrats in the Netherlands, he was co-author of a plan for coping with the unemployment that had swept across Europe with the Great Depression.

Jan Tinbergen Oleh: Jo Gunadi , 11 April 2003 Memperingati 100 Tahun Jan Tinbergen Idealisme memerangi kemiskinan
