Arafat as Mr. Rogers and Bob Vila; “Massacre” to “War Crimes”; Terry Moran Smeared Dick Armey as Favoring Ethnic Cleansing; CBS News Can’t Afford Clinton; CBS’s Balanced First Monday 1) Yasser Arafat, man of the people. ABC’s Gillian Findlay and NBC’s Martin Fletcher bubbled with excitement Thursday night in describing Arafat’s photo-op staged events. Findlay relayed how when “he noticed a home damaged in the fighting” he picked up a trowel and “was soon helping to repair the walls.” Fletcher related how “the children made him smile.” 2) Now that the “massacre” charge against Israel has fallen apart ABC’s Peter Jennings moved on to the new line of attack: Israel committed “war crimes” in Jenin. 3) ABC News reporter Terry Moran smeared Dick Armey. Moran claimed at Thursday’s White House briefing that the House Majority Leader had called for the West Bank to be “ethnically cleansed” of Palestinians. When Ari Fleischer doubted Moran’s characterization, Moran shot back: “That’s the way Milosevic said it, he never said ethnic cleansing either.” 4) MSNBC anchor Rick Sanchez was so rattled by Dick Armey’s suggestion that Palestinians find a home outside of the West Bank that he jumbled Armey’s name: “House Majority Leader Dick Leader Armey.” ... 7) Letterman’s “Top Ten Ways Saddam Hussein Celebrated His 65th Birthday.” Yasser Arafat: A combination of the best of Mr. Rogers and Bob Vila. ABC’s Gillian Findlay and NBC’s Martin Fletcher bubbled with excitement Thursday night in describing Arafat’s photo-op staged events during his first day in months outside of his Ramallah headquarters. Findlay relayed how at “a hospital he comforted the wounded” and when “he noticed a home damaged in the fighting” he picked up a trowel and “was soon helping to repair the walls.” Fletcher related that “Arafat called the Israeli military a Nazi army” before noting how “the children made him smile.”

CORNELIA STRONG COLLEGE
The University of North Carolina at Greensboro
GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
Fourth Annual Buffalo Creek Regatta a Grand Success! The sun was shining (unlike last week), the wind was blowing (to the considerable advantage of boats with sails), the creek was flowing (thanks to the work of the Strong College Corps of Engineers), and a spectacular time was had by all the multitudes at the Fourth Annual Buffalo Creek Regatta, our best Regatta ever. Thousands of prizes were awarded in hundreds of categories, but the three top finishers in the principal divisions of speed, beauty, and creativity were: Head of the Buffalo 1998: Sabrina Payne with The Basket Case Prettiest Boat: Cecilia Ruth Lance with The Garden Weasels Most Original Boat: Michelle Marcelais with Caf Creation The final heat between The Basket Case and Tim Williams The Wanderlust was intense, but the wind filled the sails of The Basket Case and it crossed the finish line first. The names of these winners will go down in the annals of the College and will be remembered for a thousand years.

Bob and Rose
[Written for Gay.com UK For while Bob does hit the scene occasionally (indeed, he quotes one of his favourite haunts as Babylon, the fictional club from QAF) and is not averse to pulling complete strangers. The potential for controversy, however, comes not from drug use or underage sex, but from a subject far more incomprehensible to many gay men: Bob Gossage, comprehensive teacher and well-adjusted gay man, falls in love with a woman. In crafting a completely believable, normal gay man caught up in a strange, yet honestly compelling situation, ITV has produced in Bob and Rose something that Queer As Folk never quite managed to evoke - a painful, honest account of everyday life among gay people and their friends in a way that all, gay or straight, can immediately feel they relate to. Riley plan supporters start ad campaign His supporters sound like... well... Democrats: "Isn't it time for the timber companies, big landowners and out-of-state corporations to pay their fair share and help move our state forward? The people of Alabama deserve no less," says the announcer in the 60-second ad. He's a man without a party, I'm afraid. Such is the cost of courage. TrackBack
