This article is not about what I feel about O.J. Simpson, but rather what I am feeling about Marguerite Whitley Simpson Thomas. Through all the media mania about the O.J. Simpson tragedy, the thought of the first Mrs. Simpson kept coming back to me. Actually, it was upper-most in my mind. First let me say, this article (like the others in Meanderings) is not intended to negate the tragedy of the death of Nicole Brown Simpson or Ronald Goldman. It is my feeling about the impact of the tragedy on a woman that is still living, the first Mrs. Simpson. When I first started thinking about Marguerite Simpson, like most things I feel, music popped up in my mind to provide some context to my feelings. The more I think about her, the more I'm reminded of the warnings of the women poets. I heard Aretha sing, "if you want a do right woman, you gotta be a do right man." Then Nancy Wilson piped in, "guess who I saw today my love," and Aretha came back at me, "I don't want nobody, always sittin around with me and my man..." In June of 1967, Marguerite Whitley married Orenthal James Simpson. An "around the way girl" and a "home boy." Different generation, same feeling. Coulda been

Scott). His obituary said he left home at age 17 and went to Martin Co., MO. Unfortunately I cannot find there ever was a Martin County. I found an old picture of him when he was 17-18 and the photographer was in Lamar, so he must have been living in the Lamar area. James married an unknown lady sometime between 1886 and 1895. After a year of marriage she died. I don't believe they had any children. He married my gr-grandmother in 1895. Unfortunately, I cannot be any more specific. I would love to find out the name of his first wife, and any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Post Reply Mark Unread Report Abuse Print Message ... http://numericalmethods.eng.usf.edu/anecdotes/simpson.html
Thomas Simpson You know how “basket weaving” always turns up during discussion of “easy” college courses? One of the great mathematicians of our time, especially for the subject of numerical methods, might have fallen victim to basket weaving had it not been for a rare celestial occasion. Thomas Simpson, born on August 20, 1710, in Market Bosworth, Leicestershire, England, was the son of a self-taught weaver. Simpson’s father naturally expected his son to take up the same profession as his “ol’ man”. However, with the occurrence of a solar eclipse in 1724, Thomas Simpson turned to “mathematical interests”, changing his life forever. After a little help mastering Cocker’s Arithmetic and the concepts of algebra, Simpson became an “usher” (“the most distinguished of a group of itinerant lecturers who taught in the London coffee-houses”), which greatly improved his mathematical skills. By 1735, he was able to solve puzzles concerning infinitesimal calculus. In 1737, he wrote the first of his mathematical texts, the first of two volumes of The Doctrine and Application of Fluxions (the second volume was finished and both volumes were published in 1750).

Week by Week in the O.J. Simpson Criminal Trial
Pre-Trial Developments in the Case (January 11 - 20, 1995)
JANUARY 11 - In a devastating attack on O.J. Simpson, the prosecution asserted that the former football legend abused his former wife for 17 years. The revelations came as lawyers began arguments about whether jurors should hear evidence of alleged domestic abuse by Simpson against Nicole Brown Simpson. The prosecution detailed more than 50 alleged incidents of abuse, including a number of alleged beatings and a threat by Simpson to cut off the heads of any of his ex-wife's boyfriends he caught driving his cars. The prosecution argued the evidence established motive and premeditation. The defense countered that the evidence was unsubstantiated and therefore should not be introduced during the trial. The hearing began after the jurors and alternates were sequestered. Also, Judge Lance Ito ordered a women's shelter that may have served Nicole Brown Simpson to turn over records to the attorneys in the murder trial. The Sojourn shelter in Santa Monica expressed concerns about the cost of complying with the order and about the impact on the privacy of its clients. Judge Ito ruled that a waiver of confidentiality signed by Nicole Brown Simpson's father allowed for the release of the records. JANUARY 12 - The second day of hearings on the admissibility of alleged incidents of domestic abuse opened with the prosecution withdrawing 19 of the 52 incidents that it claims chronicled the alleged pattern of abuse. Still, Deputy District Attorney Lydia Bodin said the remaining incidents were sufficient to prove O.J. Simpson's motive for murder. "When he finally couldn't control her, when she was finally breaking away from him, when she had finally estranged herself from him and tried to distance herself from him, it is the people's contention that he killed her," Bodin said. The state withdrew the items of alleged abuse that were detailed in Nicole Brown Simpson's diary because they were inadmissible hearsay evidence. Judge Lance Ito said he would rule by Tuesday on what evidence would be admitted.

http://www.clanfraser.ca/simpson.htm
by Marie Fraser, Genealogy/Newsletter Editor, Clan Fraser Society of Canada This article was inspired by CFSC member Duane Simpson of Surrey, BC who suggested that we profile a person associated with one of the Fraser septs, who had made a significant contribution to the early development of Canada. Sir George Simpson was the Hudson's Bay Company governor of Rupert's Land, and his cousin Thomas Simpson was a HBCo fur trader and the explorer credited with discovering the North West Passage. Sir George Simpson [c.1787-1860] Marjorie Wilkins Campbell wrote several books about the independent fur traders from Montreal, who banded together in 1779 to form a commercial empire that spanned the continent, before it merged with the Hudson's Bay Company in 1821. Simpson triumphed over the Nor'westers by employing a battlefield dictum followed by his idol, Napoleon: One must never interfere with the enemy while he is in the process of destroying himself Simpson’s ruthless treatment of Native women has been well documented. On 21st May 1821 he wrote to London from Fort Wedderburn: "Connubial alliances are the best security we can have of the goodwill of the Natives. I have therefore recommended the Gentlemen to form connections with the principal Families immediately upon their arrival, which is no difficult matter as the offer of their Wives & daughters is the first token of their Friendship & hospitality." Even before joining the HBCo, Simpson had already acknowledged two daughters born out of wedlock in Britain. [Isabella married James Cook Gordon, a Scottish solicitor, and Maria married Donald McTavish in Inverness.] Between his arrival in 1820 and his marriage in 1830, he had at least five other children by four women. Betsey Sinclair bore him a child but he soon tired of her. Margaret Taylor gave him two sons. He also had at least two other simultaneous affairs [and a child each] with Mary Keith, and with his Montreal mistress, Ann Foster. His sex-object attitude to women was largely responsible for the breakdown of marriage

pub: Titan Books. 158 page enlarged paperback. Price: £ 9.99 (UK). ISBN: 1-84023-415-6. I n a desert when there’s still far too little Farscape book material outside of non-canon novels, I end up buying these books when I see them. The main difference with this volume compared to the last two is this one has an 8 page colour insert showing some of the key cast and make-up effects. Other than that, it’s pretty much a mix of episode guide with interviews. There’s a chapter devoted to the animation episode - together with character designs - as well as the usual extensive look at the effects. A real tour de force for any Farscape fan. If you’re a fan, then you’ve probably got a copy by now, especially if you want a first edition. The earlier editions have gone into reprint a long while back. Some of my criticism from the previous volumes still stands. What’s the point of having an episode synopsis which doesn’t go right to the end? More so when you turn the page and there’s the start of the next episode. It’s hardly like it should spoil any surprises for any fan of the series.

Thomas Simpson (17101761) Simpson was a successful text writer and did most of his work in probability. He taught at the Royal Military Academy in Woolwich. His first articles were published in the Ladies' Diary . Later he became editor of this popular journal. Simpson's rule to approximate definite integrals was developed and used before he was born. It is another of history's beautiful quirks that one of the ablest mathematicians of the 18th century is remembered not for his own work or his textbooks but for a rule that was never his, that he never claimed, and that bears his name only because he happened to mention it in one of his books.
