Austrian physicist who invented wave mechanics in 1926. Wave mechanics was an independent formulation of quantum mechanics to Heisenberg's matrix mechanics Like matrix mechanics wave mechanics mathematically described the behavior of electrons and atoms The central equation of wave mechanics, now known as the turned out to be much simpler for physicists to solve in most cases. The Nobel Prize in Physics

Erwin Schrödinger was born on August 12, 1887, in Vienna, the only child of Rudolf Schrödinger, who was married to a daughter of Alexander Bauer, his Professor of Chemistry at the Technical College of Vienna. Erwin's father came from a Bavarian family which generations before had settled in Vienna. He was a highly gifted man with a broad education. After having finished his chemistry studies, he devoted himself for years to Italian painting. After this he took up botany, which resulted in a series of papers on plant phylogeny.
Schrödinger's wide interests dated from his school years at the Gymnasium, where he not only had a liking for the scientific disciplines, but also appreciated the severe logic of ancient grammar and the beauty of German poetry. (What he abhorred was memorizing of data and learning from books.)
From 1906 to 1910 he was a student at the University of Vienna, during which time he came under the strong influence of Fritz Hasenöhrl, who was Boltzmann's successor. It was in these years that Schrödinger acquired a mastery of eigenvalue problems in the physics of continuous media, thus laying the foundation for his future great work. Hereafter, as assistant to Franz Exner, he, together with his friend K. W. F. Kohlrausch, conducted practical work for students (without himself, as he said, learning what experimenting was). During the First World War he served as an artillery officer.

    Erwin Schrödinger
Born: 12 Aug 1887 in Vienna, Austria
Died: 4 Jan 1961 in Alpbach, Austria Schrödinger was a student at Vienna from 1906 and taught there for ten years from 1910 to 1920 with a break for military service in World War I. He went to Zurich in 1921 where he made very important contributions to wave mechanics and the general theory of relativity in a series of papers in 1926. Wave mechanics, proposed by Schrödinger in these papers, was the second formulation of quantum theory, the first being matrix mechanics due to Heisenberg. Schrödinger was awarded the Nobel prize for this work in 1933. Schrödinger went to Berlin in 1927 where he succeeded Planck and became a colleague of Einstein's. Although he was a Catholic Schrödinger decided in 1933 that he couldn't live in a country in which persecution of Jews had become a national policy. He left, spending time in Austria, Britain and Italy before settling in Dublin, Ireland in 1940. His study of Greek science and philosophy is summarized in Nature and the Greeks (1954). He remained in Dublin until he retired in 1956 when he returned to Vienna and wrote his last book

Domovská stránka Fyzici Rakouský fyzik Erwin Rudolf Josef Alexander Schrödinger se narodil jako jedináèek 12. srpna 1887 v Erdbergu (Vídeò). Otec Erwina, Rudolf Schrödinger, provozoval malou továrnu na linoleum. Matka, Emily Bauerová, byla napùl Anglièanka a napùl Rakušanka. Erwin Schrödinger velmi dobøe hovoøil anglicky a nìmecky. Nechodil do základní školy - mìl svého soukromého vychovatele až do 10 let.

    NarodowoϾ : Austriak
Nagroda Nodla : 1933 r. Wyniki uzyskane przez de Broglie’a zainspirowa³y Schrödingera do poszukiwania równania, którego rozwi¹zaniem jest funkcja reprezentuj¹ca falê. Uda³o mu siê to. W 1926 r. formu³uje on s³ynne równanie Schrödingera .

Sam Schrödinger uwa¿a³, ¿e funkcja falowa przedstawia rozmyt¹ cz¹stkê. Interpretacja ca³kowitego rozmycia pojedynczej cz¹stki by³a trudna do zaakceptowania.. Dopiero Max Born – niemiecki fizyk poda³ jeszcze w tym samym 1926 roku
