Meet the Surf Girls Meet the Pros Episode Archive ... Tough Enough This elite crew of surf pros have spent the better part of their lives in search of the ultimate wave and will be appearing in this season of Surf Girls Ben Bourgeois : Ben was born in 1978 and loves his mom's home cooking. Beyond that, it's hard to believe that anyone born and raised in North Carolina could become such a talented surfer. After being on the W.C.T. (World Championship Tournament) for a year, Ben is now competing in the W.Q.S. (World Qualifying Series) and making it known that he will be back on the W.C.T. soon. Ben Bourgeois Photos Dave Davidson : Dave Davidson has been surfing for over 20 years. At the age of 18, he was the A.P.S.A (Australian Professional Surfing Association) Australian Junior Champion. Originally from Bondi Beach, he traveled from Australia on the A.S.P (Association of Surfing Professionals) tour with his best results being a second place at the Ocean Beach Bud tour event in the U.S, and a second place finish at the Hard Rock Cafe Classic in Australia. Dave retired at the tender age of 23 to travel and surf extensively throughout Indonesia. He has been a surfing coach for 10 years now.

Renin-Secreting Adenocarcinoma of the Colon
Tim R. Ringrose Paddy A. Phillips ; and George B.M. Lindop
To the Editor: We describe what we believe to be the first case of a renin-secreting adenocarcinoma of the colon. A 66-year-old retired schoolteacher presented with a 3-month history of headaches, vomiting, constipation, and weight loss. She had severe hypertension (blood pressure, 210/140 mm Hg) and hypokalemia (potassium level, 2.2 mmol/L). A barium enema showed appearances of cecal carcinoma. Both plasma renin levels (21 pmol/L; normal, 1.1 to 2.7 pmol/L) and plasma aldosterone levels (1010 pmol/L; normal, 100 to 450 pmol/L) were elevated. Potassium supplements and oral spironolactone

Reviewed by Colin Wells (CWells7588@aol.com) Word count: 2687 words "The history of the Byzantine eunuch has yet to be written," Evelyne
Patlagean pointed out regretfully nearly two decades ago in A History of Private Life (Vol. I), before venturing that Byzantine society perceived eunuchs as "a third sex, in which nature had been abolished and only culture remained. A variety of consequences flowed from this abolition of nature."[[1]] Unfortunately, Patlagean left it at that, relying on the reader to speculate about just what exactly those consequences might be. Katherine Ringrose's scholarly, insightful, and methodical book goes a long way toward making good both deficiencies. In The Perfect Servant, Ringrose scours the literary sources to offer a history of the Byzantine eunuch that will surely remain the standard work on the subject for some time to come, and one that explores in detail how this fascinating phenomenon ramified within Byzantine culture.

Equitation School
The Birth of the Equitation School
The Equitation School has been at the forefront of Irish equestrianism for the last 76 years, both at home and abroad. Since their inception Irish Army riders have been the backbone of Irish Show jumping and Event Teams.
Army riders have represented Ireland at Olympic, World and European Championship level in Show jumping and Three-Day Eventing. With wins in competitions such as the Hickstead Derby (on three occasions), Hickstead Speed Derby (on three occasions), Grand Prix Dublin, Grand Prix Helsinki, Millstreet Derby, Monterey Derby to name but a few, Army riders on Irish bred horses have indeed been a powerful force in advertising and promoting the sale of Irish horses abroad. Its success in achieving this objective can be established by reviewing the impressive record of Irish horses competing for other Nations over the years.
The formation of the army equitation School came about very quickly in 1926 following contact between Judge Wylie of the RDS, Col Hogan (Quartermaster General), and the then head of the new Free State, President William T. Cosgrave. Through a miracle of farsighted initiative, the funding was found to have Ireland field teams for international show jumping competitions. Its purpose - to advertise the new State and to promote the Irish Horse, which in the long run would rebound to the benefit of farmer breeders around the country.

Chris Ringrose Productivity: Literary Value and the Curriculum
'Cultural history would refuse nothing' (Catherine Belsey)
'As we all know, English is dead' (Gary Day) Modern literary studies have always been implicated in questions of literary value. The university curriculum at mid-century was seen primarily in terms of selected texts from literary history; something has to be taught, after all, and one way of radically assessing university English was to revalue the syllabus. Ian MacKillop and Richard Storer's archaeology among F. R. Leavis's papers reinforces if anything our sense of his magisterial approach, dictating a nuanced curriculum even to those who might be on their way to study at Downing College, and repeating the process in his undergraduate tutorials (1995: 53-70). The American poet and critic Yvor Winters acted similarly in presenting his history of the lyric poem Forms of Discovery : there were surprising apotheoses (such as Frederick Goddard Tuckerman and Robert Bridges) and summary dismissals: I have had neither the time nor the inclination in this book or previously to write at length of the poets who have temporarily, from decade to decade, had great reputations, some of whom may still have them: John Masefield, Alfred Noyes, Edgar Lee Masters, Carl Sandburg, Vachel Lindsay, Amy Lowell, Elinor Wylie, Edna St Vincent Millay, e. e. cummings, Archibald McLeish, Dylan Thomas, W. H. Auden, Robert Lowell, Richard Wilbur. The learned scholar who would like to devote a history to these poets has my blessing.
