Hans Rademacher Courant . His initial interests were in the theory of real functions which he was taught by who also taught him the calculus of variations number theory with Edmund Landau . Continuing his interest in the theory of real functions he was awarded his doctorate in 1916 for a dissertation on single-valued mappings and mensurability. He taught at a school in Thuringia for a short while before being appointed to the University of Berlin as a Privatdozent in December 1916. He was a colleague of Schmidt and Schur and was certainly influenced by them. He changed his area of mathematical interest from the theory of real functions to number theory in 1922 when he accepted the position of extraordinary professor at Hamburg. He was led towards number theory by Hecke who had been appointed to Hamburg three years before Rademacher. At Easter 1925 Rademacher left Hamburg to become an ordinary professor at Breslau. It was a difficult decision for Rademacher, particularly since

Ed 1964, Reprint Ed. 1977 Description Pages ISBN # Reviews Cloth/Paper C U.S. Dollars Using a background of analysis and algebra, the reader is led to the fundamental theorems of number theory; the uniqueness of prime number factorization and the reprocity law of quadratic residues. Cyclotomy is treated in some detail because of its own significance and as a framework for the elegant theorems on Gaussian sums. Asymptotic laws are discussed as a foretaste of analytic number theory; also, Kirichlet's theorem about primes in an arithmitic progression and V. Brun's theorem on twin primes. He was a colleague of Schmidt and Schur and influenced them. He is best known for his proof of the asymptotic formula for the growth of the partition function (the number of representations of a number as a sum of natural numbers). This answered questions of Leibniz and Euler and followed results obtained by Hardy and Ramanujan Forced to leave Germany in 1933 because of his pacifist views, he spent the rest of his life in the USA. Gasdichte « Türen in Auschwitz Von Dr.-Ing.

Some Details of the Central Construction Office of Auschwitz H ANS J N OWAK AND W ERNER R ADEMACHER 1. Introduction In 1992 the Moscow Central Archives made its holdings publicly accessible. These include the - evidently not entirely complete - correspondence of the Central Construction Office of the Waffen-SS and Police of Auschwitz - some 83,000 documents. This Construction Office was in charge of all matters relating to construction in the concentration and prisoner-of-war camps in the environs of Auschwitz. Auschwitz-Birkenau, the infamous camp belonging to this complex and generally described today as " concentration and extermination camp ", was designed and built by this Central Construction Office as a " prisoner-of-war camp ". Construction began in late 1941. Work proceeded as per a blueprint of the Special Construction Office of Auschwitz, dated October 7, 1941. Construction Section BA Ia was completed in March 1942, and housed prisoners-of-war until August 1942. The designation of the camp was retained. A renaming does not become apparent until mid-April 1944, as of when the term " KL-Auschwitz, Lager II

This award-winning globe could help children become A+ geography students. The Explorer Globe II is jam-packed with hundreds of facts, trivia, and useful scholastic information about every aspect of the geographical world. It electronically verbalizes everything from area population, capitol city/country, state/province, large bodies of water, currencies, high points, distance, and more. Other remarkable features make the Explorer an even more useful reference tool. It has a world clock that, once set from your home area, will tell the time in every other part of the world. And any country can be selected to hear a sample its national music (yes, Tahiti does have a national anthem). The globe sits on a sturdy base, which features a dashboard full of interactive functions and an attached soft-tipped stylus. This stylus is the key instrument: use it to touch virtually any point on the surface of the globe to retrieve information. Diane Beall

Background note After two years as a Privatdozent in Berlin, Rademacher moved to the University of Hamburg in 1922 as Ausserordentlicher Professor in mathematics, and although he enjoyed the intellectual environment there, he left three years later for Breslau, where he had been offered an ordinary professorship. By the time of his arrival there, his interests had begun to shift increasingly to number theory. After working on applications of Brun's sieve method and algebraic number fields, in 1928 he began work in the areas for which he became most widely known, modular forms and analytic number theory. A pacifist and member of the International League for the Rights of Men and the Breslau chapter of the Deutsche Friedensgesellschaft, Rademacher earned the unwanted attention of the Nazi Party, and in 1934 he was removed from his position. Residing briefly in a small town on the Baltic, he accepted the offer of a visiting Rockefeller Fellowship and moved to the United States in 1934 to work at the University of Pennsylvania, his second wife Olga Frey and their new son following one year later. Although he was offered only an assistant professorship at Penn, Rademacher remained at the university until his retirement in 1962. His 1936 proof of the asymptotic formula for the growth of the partition function might have been his most widely known work, addressing questions raised by mathematicians from Leibniz to Euler, but he contributed to algebraic number fields and Dedekind sums.
