[HM] Availability of the Crest of the Peacock

Dear Julio,
I have had a number of postings from members of your math-list
enquiring about the availability of the Crest of the Peacock. A
number have told me that they have been informed that the book is out
of print. I have just received the following message from Penguin.
"The Crest is still in print we have 656 copies currently in
stock, which at the current rate of sale will last until the new
edition is published next June (although one wonders what the current
rate of sale might have been had your contacts not been told that the
book is out of print). I've just spoken to our Customer Services department, and they can't understand why people have been told that the book is out of print; it is quite clear that we still have stock. I should tell people to be sure to quote the ISBN (0140125299) when they place orders."

Plaintiff had standing as a taxpayer to maintain a public interest taxpayer action against the City of Charlotte, George Shinn, and the Charlotte Hornets arising from the financial agreements for the construction of the Charlotte Coliseum and the use of the Coliseum by the Hornets where plaintiff alleged that he was a resident and taxpayer of Charlotte and attached documentation of extended correspondence which established that neither the City nor the Coliseum Authority intended to take action to recoup allegedly unlawful payments made pursuant to the agreements.

George And Mildred UK, ITV (Thames), Sitcom, colour, 1976 Starring: Brian Murphy, Yootha Joyce, Norman Eshley Having just finished six series of Man About The House , the ultra-prolific Mortimer and Cooke created and wrote two concurrent spin-offs: Robin's Nest (six more series) and George And Mildred (five). The latter was the more acclaimed of the two, featuring the former landlord and landlady from Man About The House now moved upmarket into a new home at 46 Peacock Crescent, Hampton Wick, suburbia. For Mildred it is her long-awaited climb up the class structure - she calls it a 'town house'. For George - lazy, mostly unemployed (he does work for a short while as a traffic warden) and aggressively determined to preserve his working-classness - it is a terraced house. Much fine comedy ensued, and the working chemistry between Brian Murphy and Yootha Joyce, two experienced stage actors, was a winning one. The humour ran along three main lines: the couple's hopeless 25-year marriage in general, Mildred's sexual frustrations in particular - George has given up on sex completely and contrives any excuse to avoid it - and the class struggle. This last problem is exacerbated by the posh family next door, the Fourmiles - wife, husband and brat child - who are befriended by Mildred but loathed by George. (Jeffrey Fourmile was played by actor Norman Eshley who, only four months before

peacock for Thanksgiving. One of our (mixed) blessings. Terry writes peacockGeorge. One of the mixed blessings at Windward has been the peacocks.
    http://www.windward.org/notes/notes63/tar63_5.htm
    Notes from Windward: #63
    Peacock for Thanksgiving
One of our (mixed) blessings Terry writes: Peacock George One of the mixed blessings at Windward has been the peacocks. Two years ago there was one, affectionately named "George." He apparently was an excess bachelor kicked out of our neighbor's flock. Upon inquiry, our neighbor informed us that we were welcome to keep any strays that wandered over. George was quite friendly and added color to our site. He left us feathers when he molted, put on a show for the chickens and ducks and made funny noises. A year ago, George brought over a friend. Then there were two peacocks leaving us feathers, courting the chickens and making funny noises. This year our uninvited flock of peacocks and hens numbered almost a dozen, including three chicks that disappeared after only a day. Pretty as they are, unfortunately, they're becoming a pest. They're not shy at all about helping themselves to the food put out for the ducks, chickens and song birds and, because of their size, they can easily chase any other birds away from the food. And so, we decided that since the peacocks were sharing the duck and chicken food, they should also share the same fate as our birds, i.e. some of them should become dinner assuming of course that they taste "ok." The grand experiment took place this Thanksgiving when a peacock joined the turkey as the center piece of our holiday dinner.
