Nìmecký fyzik Georg Simon Ohm se narodil 16.3 1787 v Erlangenu v Bavorsku v protestantské rodinì jako jedno ze 7 dìtí a jako jedno ze 3, které pøežily dìtství. Jeho otec mu osobnì poskytl solidní vzdìlání v matematice, fyzice, chemii a filozofii. V roce 1905 zaèal navštìvovat univerzitu v Erlangenu. Místo studování však trávil mnoho èasu na taneèních zábavách a jinou èinností než studiem. To velmi zlobilo jeho otce, nebo se nemohl smíøit s tím, že jeho syn nevyužívá možnosti, které se jemu nedostalo. Po 3 semestrech zaèal mladý Ohm vyuèovat matematiku ve Švýcarsku. Toto vyuèování trvalo 6 let. Mezitím se Ohm soukromì vzdìlával v matematice. Po této pøestávce se vrátil do Erlangenu a 25. øíjna 1811 obdržel doktorát. V roce 1917 zaèal vyuèovat matematiku a f y ziku na jezuitské škole v Kolínì nad Rýnem. Tam se zaèal zabývat výzkumem elektøiny. Roku 1827 vydal svoji práci, ve které formuloval zákon, podle nìhož je proud procházející obvodem pøímo úmìrný elektrickému napìtí. tento zákon – dnes nazývaný jeho jméne m – formuluje uvedený vztah tak jednoduše, že zprvu nebyl nìmeckými vìdci brán vážnì.
