About John
Written by his lovely sister, 10 yrs younger but oceans wiser, Eileen Napier
Herein lies the truthful history about Johnfrom his humble origins as Alexander John Napier III, through his formative years, and during his metamorphosis into the "Napes" that some of us know and love and to whom the rest of us are just trying to get close enough to get an autograph.
John was born in 1971, the forth child and only boy of Alex and Anne Napier. He was an entertainer form the beginning. He often put on different hats in role-play and recited Uncle Remus stories of Brer Rabbit and Brer Fox in the back of the family van-complete with southern accents.
His life in an Irish Catholic Air Force family was the basis for a solid value system-refusals to come sit at the table for supper were answered with a slotted spoon fueled by enough Irish temper to leave a mark, but John quickly learned to turn Star Trek off and come eat with the family. His upbringing was also the instigator for many questions about his value system, and he has been reinventing himself regularly since his flight from the nest.
As a child, he lived in Bossier City, LA, the Pacific island of Guam, and returned to LA to the semi-rural town of Haughton just east of Shreveport when he was 6. After graduating from Haughton High where he was president of his class and a finalist in the school's cross-dressing beauty pageant, he went on to college at the US Air Force Academy in Colorado. There he met an important circle of life-long friends a) who dubbed him Napes and b) whose intellect and spirits for adventure helped John challenge himself to accomplish many things that most people think are ludicrous (more on that later).

Sir John Napier
John Napier of Merchiston
Mathematician, inventor and astronomer. Born at Merchiston Castle (Edinburgh) into a wealthy family, Napier was the eldest son of Sir Archibald Napier (1534 - 1608). He was educated at St. Salvator's College, St. Andrews and became a staunch Calvinist. He devised "Napier's Rods" or "Napier's Bones" which permitted easy multiplication by addition. This led to his best remembered work: the concept of logarithms, which he described in Mirifici Logarithmorum Canonis Descriptio (1614). He also invented the decimal point and a hydraulic screw pump to remove water from coal mines. Napier also proposed a number of new weapons, including a device based on mirrors to set fire to enemy ships by focussing a high-intensity light beam, an armoured wagon and a submarine. He also experimented in agricultural improvement on his estates. His son to his first wife, Elizabeth, became the first Lord Napier. In 1572, he married Agnes Chisholm and they settled on his family estate at Gartness, near Killearn (Stirling). Napier was buried at St. Cuthbert's Church in Edinburgh.
