Douglas Frank Chorale
The A Cappella Singer In 1936 the E. C. Schirmer Music Company published a collection of 30 works chosen from the Renaissance and spanning four centuries as well. This collection was entitled "The A Cappella Singer" and became one of the most widely circulated and often printed music anthologies of the twentieth century. The success of the collection is found in the diversity of songs, Italian madrigals, French chansons, English madrigals and a pair of Russian romantic part-songs. Additionally it was chosen from popular music and ended up being extensively sung in communities, colleges and even home singing get togethers. The Douglas Frank Choral is a marvelous professional grouping of ten voices, five men and five women, which brings to exuberant life one of the best known choral repertoires of last century.
6559 CD $15.98 The A Cappella Singer "The A Cappella Singer" books, of which this is the second, are designed to bring much of this music in most engaging variety and excellence into schools, colleges, universities, clubs, communities and homes. While the other books in this series are designed for either the male or female voice, this book is designed for a mix of both, containing Madrigals and Ayres with all their grace, wit and lyrical charm; the ineffably lovely and truly religious music of Bach, Brahms and other composers nearer our own times; and fine arrangements of folk songs: this is an endlessly rich field containing most of the best choral music in the world. This book has all the songs in the above recording.

The three Morley sons, Christopher, Felix and Frank, were all born before the Morley family moved to Johns Hopkins University in 1900; and they and their descendants have continued to study at Haverford. All three of the brothers were Rhodes scholars after Haverford and prolific writers and led distinguished careers: Christopher in literature, Frank in publishing, and Felix in journalism and political affairs. Felix Morley was also president of Haverford College from 1940 to 1945. Christopher Darlington Morley an erudite, versatile author, began his career early. He published this news gazette at 12 years.

Background
Much of this collection concerns the life of Christopher Darlington Morley (1890-1957) who reached the pinnacle of his popularity as a writer in the 1930s and 1940s. Best known for his novel Kitty Foyle , he was, in fact, quintessentially versatile. Erudite and witty, he probed every literary genre and exhibited a style of substance and facility. Though he is perhaps best remembered as a novelist and literary columnist, he is also remembered as a dramatist, essayist, editor, especially in connection with the Book-of-the-Month Club, and anthologist of two editions of Bartlett's Quotations. Morley's poetry which he wrote in free verse and rhymed had a 17th century lilt to it. His Translations from the Chinese (1932) is considered some of his best poetry. Then again, his poetry was transduced into lyrics in collaboration with such song writers as Jerome Kern.

For almost fifty years, since the cineaste . Though his work comes up for minor re-evaluation every twenty years or so, the critical approach to Tashlin's work has been remarkably consistent. It is as if this one fact about this career is the only
While it is certainly unusual and extremely interesting that Tashlin emerged from print cartooning and animation to make live-action features, it is not an all-purpose explanatory mechanism. In fact, his career has been oversimplified and misunderstood due largely to the ahistorical approach that most scholars have taken in discussing his work. Ahistorical, that is, in the sense that no one has yet situated Tashlin in any of the contexts which would allow us to better understand his style, and to move away from this monolithic approach.
For Tashlin is unusual in another way: unlike most of the other mid-century Hollywood directors who are generally granted auteur status, Tashlin worked in but one genre: comedy. His peers, such as Robert Aldrich, Richard Brooks, Nicholas Ray, Douglas Sirk, Howard Hawks, Billy Wilder and many others, hopped from genre to genre; indeed, this is one of the reasons they are generally considered

03/26/2004 South Philly Library Gets New Name (Ed Goppelt)
In a trend that is sweeping the City, a South Philadelphia library was renamed today after a neighborhood political figure who recently passed away. A crowd of around 200 listened, applauding frequently, as a parade of current political leaders rededicated the Southwark Library the Charles Santore Branch of the Free Library. South Philadelphia political players ranging from newly invigorated incumbents to ambitious young challengers, from ward leaders to political heavyweights such as Justice Castille and Senator Fumo turned out in droves for the ceremony. Charles Santore was a Republican ward leader and Union official. Read a short biography of Santore here . Santore's son, Richard, owns and operates the Saloon Restaurant at 750 S. 7th St. Other libraries renamed after local politicians include Northwest Regional Library (for Council President Joseph Coleman) and the West Philadelphia Regional Library (for Congressman Lucien Blackwell). The Charles Santore Branch at 7th and Carpenter serves an ethnically mixed population of longtime Italian-American residents, Asian immigrants and African-Americans.
