During the years 1613 to 1621 Morin was employed by the Bishop of Boulogne. He was sent to Germany and Hungary. His main task seems to have been to visit mines and make studies of metals. His skill in astrology seems to have been his main use to the Bishop. His next employer was the Duke of Luxembourg, for whom he worked until 1629. During this period Morin published a defence of Aristotle (1624) and he also worked on optics. However astrology remained his main interest although he worked with Gassendi on observational astronomy. Galileo and his views. He was to continue his attacks against Galileo after the trial of 1633. Morin remained firmly convinced that the Earth was fixed in space.

Abbé JEAN-BAPTISTE MORIN M. l'abbé Jean-Baptiste Morin, un des doyens du clergé diocésain, qui était à sa retraite à Notre-Dame-du-Lac depuis 1971, est décédé à l'Hôpital de cette paroisse, le 25 juillet 1975, à l'âge de 83 ans et cinq mois. C'est l'archevêque de Rimouski, Mgr Gilles Ouellet, qui présida la cérémonie de ses funérailles dans l'église de Notre-Dame-du-Lac, le 28 juillet, et son inhumation dans le cimetière paroissial. Fils d'Amable Morin, cultivateur, et d'Henriette Roy, M. l'abbé Morin était né à Notre-Dame-du-Lac, le 16 février 1892. Après ses études primaires dans sa paroisse, il travailla d'abord quelque temps, puis il fit des études complémentaires au Collège de L'Islet et ses études classiques au Séminaire de Rimouski et au Séminaire de Philosophie, de Montréal. Il fut ordonné prêtre à Rimouski, le 6 juin 1925, à la suite de quatre années de théologie au Grand Séminaire de l'endroit. Jean-Baptiste Morin Born: 23 Feb 1583 in Villefranche, Beaujolais, France Died: 6 Nov 1656 in Paris, France Jean-Baptiste Morin studied philosophy at Aix in 1609, then two years later he went to Avignon where he studied medicine, receiving a medical degree in 1613. During the years 1613 to 1621 Morin was employed by the Bishop of Boulogne. He was sent to Germany and Hungary. His main task seems to have been to visit mines and make studies of metals. His skill in astrology seems to have been his main use to the Bishop. His next employer was the Duke of Luxembourg, for whom he worked until 1629. During this period Morin published a defence of Aristotle (1624) and he also worked on optics. However astrology remained his main interest although he worked with Gassendi on observational astronomy. Morin was appointed professor of mathematics at the Collège Royal in 1630 and he was to hold this post until his death. From about the time of his appointment he attacked Galileo and his views. He was to continue his attacks against Galileo after the trial of 1633. Morin remained firmly convinced that the Earth was fixed in space.
