Applications of my work include e-Commerce and e-Learning. My most recent interests are the filtering and composition of learning objects as well as the application of multidimensional databases in collaboratif filtering. I am currently a professor at the University of Quebec. I was a researcher in the Internet Logic group at NRC . I have been the group leader of the NRC e-Health Research Group, a professor at Acadia University , an industry consultant, and a postdoctoral fellow at the Institut de génie biomédical . I earned my Ph.D. from the École Polytechnique de Montréal and graduated from the University of Toronto. In 2002, I won the Best Paper Award at the CASCON conference organized by IBM for my work on OLAP.

Eliakim Moore 's father was David Hastings Moore while his mother was Julia Sophia Carpenter. David Moore was a Methodist minister and he and his wife gave their son Eliakim an excellent education. As a child Eliakim played with Martha Morris Young and they would later marry. He attended Woodward High School from 1876 to 1879 and there he prepared for his studies at Yale University. It was at this time that he became interested in mathematics and this happened through a summer job which he took. One summer he worked as an assistant to Ormond Stone, who was the director of the Cincinnati Observatory, and from this time on Eliakim knew that he wanted to study mathematics and astronomy at university. In 1879 Moore entered Yale University and took, as he had planned, courses in mathematics and astronomy. His interests became more clearly in the area of mathematics and he received his B.A. in 1883. He remained at Yale to study for his Ph.D. under the supervision of Hubert Anson Newton. Moore's doctoral dissertation was entitled Extensions of Certain Theorems of Clifford and Cayley in the Geometry of n Dimensions Kronecker and Weierstrass at the University of Berlin. Parshall writes in [13]:-

    Biographical Note
Robert Lee Moore (1882-1974), a prominent mathematician, was a professor of mathematics at The University of Texas at Austin for almost fifty years. He is well known for his work in point-set topology, but is most remembered for his work as an educator. During his long career, Moore supervised over fifty doctoral students, including three members of the National Academy of Sciences, three presidents of the American Mathematical Society and four presidents of the Mathematical Association of America. Moore was born November 14, 1882, in Dallas, Texas, the fifth child of Charles Jonathan and Louisa Ann Moore. He developed an interest in mathematics early in life, teaching himself out of a calculus textbook before entering The University of Texas in 1898 at the age of sixteen. There he studied under George Bruce Halsted, simultaneously earning a B.S. and M.A. in 1901. After graduating, Moore spent a year as a Fellow in mathematics at UT and taught an analytic geometry course. During his fellowship, Moore discovered a redundancy in Hilbert's formulation of a set of axioms for geometry; this redundancy, unbeknownst to Moore, had already been published earlier that year by E. H. Moore (no relation) of the University of Chicago. Nonetheless, R. L. Moore's version of the redundancy was "elegant" and an important early achievement in his career.

He studied at Yale, receiving his B.A. in 1883 and his Ph.D. in 1885. His doctoral dissertation Extensions of Certain Theorems of Clifford and Cayley in the Geometry of n Dimensions was supervised by H A Newton. Moore went to Europe studying mostly at the University of Berlin with Kronecker and Weierstrass On his return to the United States, Moore was appointed as an instructor at Northwestern University for a year, then he spent two years as a mathematics tutor at Yale before spending the years 1889 to 1892 back at Northwestern University. Moore was appointed professor and head of department at Chicago when the university first opened in 1892. When he was appointed at Chicago, Moore persuaded the university authorities to appoint two young German mathematicians Bolza and Maschke to his department. Archibald, in [3], describes this Chicago mathematics team:-

    Quotations by Eliakim Moore
We lay down a fundamental principle of generalization by abstraction:
"The existence of analogies between central features of various theories implies the existence of a general theory which underlies the particular theories and unifies them with respect to those central features...."
Quoted in H Eves Mathematical Circles Revisited (Boston 1971). A quotation by H E Slaught
...Moore was presenting a paper on a highly technical topic to a large gathering of faculty and graduate students from all parts of the country. When half way through he discovered what seemed to be an error (though probably no one else in the room observed it). He stopped and re-examined the doubtful step for several minutes and then, convinced of the error, he abruptly dismissed the meeting to the astonishment of most of the audience. It was an evidence of intellectual courage as well as honesty and doubtless won for him the supreme admiration of every person in the group an admiration which was in no wise diminished, but rather increased, when at a later meeting he announced that after all he had been able to prove the step to be correct.

Dictionary of Scientific Biography , volume 18 (Charles Scribner's Sons, 1990), 651-653. Moore, Robert Lee ( b . Dallas, Texas, 14 November 1882; d . Austin, Texas, 4 October 1974), mathematics Moore was the fifth of the six children of Charles Jonathan and Louisa Ann (Moore) Moore. His father had moved to the southern United States from Connecticut to fight on the side of the South during the Civil War and eventually settled in Dallas, where he established a hardware and feed store. Moore attended a private school in Dallas and the University of Texas (now the University of Texas at Austin), where he spent most of his professional life. In 1910 he married Margaret MacLelland Key of Brenham, Texas; they had no children. According to the registrar's records, while Moore was at the University of Texas (1898-1902), he did very well in mathematics courses under George Bruce Halsted and Leonard Eugene Dickson. He obtained both the B.S. and M.A. 1901. He continued at the university as a fellow for the year 1901-1902. In one of his classes Halsted posed a problem that resulted in Moore's proving that one of the axioms in David Hilbert's Grundlagen der Geometrie (1899) was not independent of the other axioms. This was brought to the attention of Eliakim Hastings Moore (no direct relation), the leading professor of mathematics at the University of Chicago, who was able to provide R.L. Moore with a scholarship for graduate work at Chicago beginning in 1903. R.L. Moore was taking courses under Halsted in 1902, but when the university regents refused, over Halsted's protests, to renew Moore's teaching fellowship, Moore went to teach for a year (1902-1903) at a high school in Marshall, Texas. Halsted was himself fired by the regents in December 1902 for reasons that remain unclear.
