Posala's Questions
For free distribution only, as a gift of Dhamma Context of this sutta Posala: To one who reveals the past
unperturbed,
his doubts cut through
who has gone to the beyond
of all phenomena,
I've come with a question.
I ask the Sakyan about the knowledge [
of one devoid of perception of forms,
who has abandoned all the body,
every body,
'There is nothing': How is he to be led further on? The Buddha: The Tathagata, knowing directly all stations of consciousness, [ knows for one stationed in them release Knowing directly the origin of nothingness to be the fetter of delight, one then sees there clearly. That's his genuine knowledge the brahmin who has lived to fulfillment.
Notes
Posala's question concerning the knowledge of the person in the sphere of nothingness has a double meaning: He is asking about the Buddha's knowledge about that person, and also what a person in that sphere of attainment should do to develop his/her knowledge even further. The Buddha's answer deals with the question in both its senses. Go back On the seven stations of consciousness, see

THE KAUSHIKAs The kaushika (descendents of the influential kushika) include such intellectual giants as vishvAmitra and madhucchandasa. What is arguably the single most important verse in all the vedas - the gAyatri mantra- was composed by vishvAmitra. This set of lineages has kshatriya origins. vishvAmitra himself was a king of some importance during the vedic age. The accounts of his rivalry with vasishTha make up one of the great dramas in the vedas and the post-vedic literature. All the kaushika lineages have come down through vishvAmitra. The vaishvAmitras may be divided into 20 gotra-gaNas as shown below: NOTE: In the table below, the subdivisions of the kaushikas are listed. The name of the gotra is listed in the first column, and the corresponding pravara rshi set is in the second column. Since some of the pravara lineages are specific to the followers of certain sutras, the appropriate sutra is given in the third column. Wherever there are two or more sets of pravara rshis, it should be taken to mean that there are different lineages that correspond to a certain gotra. In general, the set of pravara rshis is a more accurate indicator of a person's descent, than simply the gotra itself. GOTRA PRAVARA RSHIs SUTRA vishvAmitra

THE BHARGAVAs The Bhargavas (descendents of Bhrgu) include such illustrious names like Chyavana, Jamadagni and Parasu-rama (usually referred to as ramo bhargava, or simply as bhargava). The Bhargavas may be divided into the 5 subsets. The first subset may be called simply Bhargava, constituted by 11 gotras. The remaining 4 subsets of the Bhargavas are individual gotras by themselves. Collectively these 4 subsets are called the Kevala Bhargavas. NOTE: In the table below, the subdivisions of the Bhargavas are listed. The name of the gotra is listed in the first column, and the corresponding pravara rshi set is in the second column. Since some of the pravara lineages are specific to the followers of certain sutras, the appropriate sutra is given in the third column. pikkaTillenu manavAbhyuti pEda mAnava pIDatO!
mittava hAlAhalaM aa illu mootavaDDadi chalivEndraM ...all of these are stark depictions of the horror in the lives of those engaged in traditional means of production - small farmers, farm workers and artisans - and the utter disregard of the state of its duty to take good care of the weakest of its constituents. Although mittava is probably the best crafted of the four, my attention has really been captured by the arguments presented in halAhalaM and aa illu mootavaDDadi. calivEndraM's ending is however the one that most brutally conveyed the terror perpetrated by the state, even though it does not involve deaths that haunt mittava and hAlAhalaM. On "hAlAhalaM" Amartya Sen won a noble prize for pointing out that the devastation caused by famines is really a sign of the absence of democratic governance. How true! The so-called democratically elected governments everywhere are holding the poorest of the poor fiscally responsible and are denying them the pennies that they desperately need to grow food and buy medicines. Can't the state use the same reasoning that's employed when doling out corporate subsidies? Yes, we do need to look forward but should we do that over the dead bodies of those that are not yet equipped to take part in the rat race? Globalization does sound a death knell to traditional artisans who cannot compete with mechanised producers and well-oiled distributors. The responsibility of taking care of the affected communities automatically becomes that of democratic governments. The state should provide for a welfare blanket in the short run and education to compete in the new global market place in the long run.

To MacGregor Index MacGregor's Consultants The following list of MacGregor's consultants is incomplete. MacGregor compiled a list of his main consultants, but did not include every individual he associated with particular notes. For those he included on his list he made notations concerning his assessment of their knowledge, value as an informant, and/or information about their position. This information is included below. In addition, we have been able to identify many of these individuals in our demographic files with varying degrees of certainty, including parentage and the locality they were from and have incorporated these data. In three cases consultants had the same name (Marasia, Isaac/Aisake, and Jotama) and it was sometimes difficult to distinguish to whom MacGregor was referring. When two people were named in relation to a note the second was apparently an interpreter who translated the first person's reportage into English. Charles Jacobsen : Son of Peter Jacobsen and Mere Marieta, born ca. 1884. He was about 48 years old in 1932. He was born in Losa and died in 1950 in Itu'muta.

Discussion "Lord Buddha rejected all this nonsense (Laws of Manu). We have to use common sense in this age." ~ IFICOULDTELL GET THIS BOOK Traditionally accepted as one of the supplementary arms of the Vedas , 'The Laws of Manu' or 'Manava Dharma Shastra' is one of the standard books in the Hindu canon, and a basic text for all gurus to base their teachings on. This 'revealed scripture' comprises 2684 verses, divided into twelve chapters presenting the norms of domestic, social, and religious life in India (circa 500 BC) under the Brahmin influence, and is fundamental to the understanding of ancient Indian society. Background
The ancient Vedic society had a structured social order where the Brahmins were esteemed as a highest and the most revered sect and assigned the holy task of acquiring ancient knowledge and learning. The teachers of each Vedic schools composed manuals in Sanskrit, known as 'sutras', pertaining to their respective schools for the guidance of their pupils, which were highly venerated by the Brahmins and memorized by each Brahmin student.
