Roger Young's Columns Remember " Remember that each grave has a face, a story, a soul represented by that slab of coldly etched stone or weathered cross Then, remember the graves throughout the world without adornment of a marker- a name, an individual, sentenced to a burial of eternal anonymity. Don’t the numbers now grow exponentially? Some were enemies, some were allies. Remember they also once walked the earth as those you honor. Remember they also aspired to a life of peaceful contentment, though driven by a different philosophy or creed as a means to obtain it." Column by Roger Young. Pat TillmanRevisited and Laid to Rest Recommended " Wrong. It does take guts to state the truth when the truth does not match the party line. Any coward can parrot what his masters say is truth. Any coward can give up their GOD-GIVEN freedom, put on a uniform, become nothing less than a slave, and follow orders, no matter how illegal or immoral. Any coward can refuse to THINK. Any individual who does this thumbs his nose at his Creator, empties his heart, mind, and soul of all traces of humanity and becomes nothing less than an android, nothing less than a walking blasphemy." Column by Roger Young. How to Deal With Your Big, Fat, Obnoxious Government

    Vietnam War
Roger Donlon grew up in Saugerties, New York, the eighth of Paul and Marion Donlon's ten children. In his family he learned the important values of honesty, integrity, hard work, and personal commitment. As a young Boy Scout he learned patriotism and leadership. As a growing young man he tried to guide his life by the principles of the Ten Commandments and the Scout Oath. Military service was almost a tradition in the Donlon family, where the patriarch was a World War I veteran. Rogers brothers all served, one of them wounded in action. In this atmosphere young Roger developed inner character and leadership qualities that would guide him during a military career of his own, and sustain him and his soldiers on one horrible night in Vietnam. President of his high school junior class and a stand-out athlete, Roger joined the Air Force in 1953, then attended the US Military Academy at West Point for nearly two years. In 1959 he was commissioned as a US Army infantry lieutenant after graduating from Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning, Georgia. From there he attended airborne training, followed by the US Army Special Warfare School at Fort Bragg. After rugged training the young officer became one of America's elite, a Special Forces officer of the Green Berets. By 1964 Roger Donlon, now a Special Forces Captain responsible for a twelve man A-Team, was stationed in Vietnam. At the small Camp Nam Dong, deep in the dark jungles, his team served as advisors to 311 South Vietnamese soldiers. In the darkness of the early morning hours of July 6, more than 900 Viet Cong soldiers attacked Nam Dong with mortars, grenades, rifles and other small arms. Two members of Team A-726 died. Captain Donlon himself was wounded four times.

    A Portrait in Valor
by Doug Sterner It was 2:26 A.M. as Captain Donlon finished his rounds and stepped through the screen door of the mess hall to check the guard roster. The twelve members of Special Forces Team A-726 were ready, whatever the darkness of that early morning might hold. So too were the 311 South Vietnamese soldiers and 40 Nungs (ethnic Chinese who worked with Special Forces) that completed the contingent at what Army Chief of Staff General Harold K. Johnson described as "An outpost of Freedom." Suddenly the building erupted. The concussion of the exploding enemy mortar round threw Captain Donlon back out the door where he saw another round hit the command post and set it on fire. From the perimeter came the sounds of small arms and machinegun fire. Nam Dong was under attack. When morning dawned the five hour battle had left 55 of the South Vietnamese and Nung defenders of Nam Dong dead, another 65 wounded. Pop Alamo and John Houston were also dead, never to witness the birth of children their pregnant wives were bearing at home. But the defenders at Nam Dong had held through the night, outnumbered at least 3 to 1 by a reinforced battalion of enemy soldiers. Donlon's team would become one of the most highly decorated units in Army history. In addition to Donlon's award, our Nation's second highest medal for military valor The Distinguished Service Cross was presented posthumously to Alamo and Houston. Four team members were awarded the Silver Star, the other five team members each received the Bronze Star with "V" for valor.

The group started playing at the White Horse in Reading, England and later made appearances at other clubs on the folk circuit. In 1969 Lyndon Green Annie left the group in 1972 and was briefly replaced by Linda Peters, who became better known through her work with husband Richard Thompson. In September 1999, Tudor Lodge went to Japan and played two very successful gigs in Tokyo. Lynne and John were joined on stage by Lyndon and two excellent Japanese musicians, Bice (keyboard and vocals) and Shimizu Hirotaka (bass). The Reunion by Lyndon W. Bournon
    THE REUNION
Joe and Vera were getting ready to take a trip. They were planning on driving from their home in Kemnay, Manitoba to London, Ontario. The journey would probably take three days, as the distance was around 2000 kilometres.
Joe and his wife Vera would share the driving, but they planned on only driving for ten hours or so each day. Although only in their forties, they certainly preferred to pace themselves rather than arrive somewhere exhausted.
Joe and Vera were both from Manitoba, and were both Metis. Joe’s features, however, showed more of the Cree side of his heritage than Vera’s, but both had dark hair, turning gray. Joe was close to six feet in height and weighed 220 pounds, which was a little more than he figured he should be. Vera, on the other hand, was just under five feet tall, but she, too was a little overweight.
They were going to London because they had recently discovered that Vera’s sister, who she hadn’t seen since they were both small, was living there. Vera and Wilma, her sister, had become separated after their mother died in a car accident. Their father had left the family not long after Wilma – who was the younger daughter – had been born. Both girls had been adopted by new parents, but unfortunately, not together. Vera’s new family raised her in Winnipeg and Wilma’s family lived in London.
Vera had not been able to trace her sister until Wilma answered an ad in the Globe and Mail. Vera had placed the ad on the advice of a family-tracing agency and the idea had paid off. Imagine the mixture of surprise and joy that Vera felt when she received a phone-call from Wilma!
