Vem var Alfred och var ligger Alfredshem? Alfredshems herrgård 1909 Att det som idag kallas Modo Hockey ursprungligen hette Alfredshems IK är bekant för de flesta men hur många vet idag vem Alfred var eller ens var Alfredshem egentligen ligger? På 1860-talet flyttade en grosshandlare som hette Carl Alfred Fahlgren från sin födelsestad Gävle till Örnsköldsvik. Han köpte flera hemman i byn Hörnett och vid laga skiftet 1864 tillskiftades han sydöstra delen av byn. 1875-76 lät han på området bygga en ångsåg och en herrgård. Herrgården omgavs av en stor trädgård med vattenfontän, liknande den i Örnparken i stan fast utan örn. Efter sitt förnamn kallade Alfred Fahlgren området för Alfredshem . Fahlgren drev även storskaligt jordbruk med flera anställda. Sågen brann 1890, återuppbyggdes men brann ännu en gång 1895. Alfred övertog då den närliggande sågen i Hörneborg av sin bror J A Fahlgren. 1899 köpte Frans Kempe, son till Mo och Domsjös grundare J C Kempe, hela området av Fahlgren. Tillsammans med sin bror Seth tog Frans Kempe initiativet till de första systematiska och tekniska undersökningarna för framställning av sulfitmassa i Sverige. I mars 1902 började man på Fahlgrens gamla markområde bygga Domsjö sulfitfabrik . Det har spekulerats i att släkten Kempe medvetet undvek att använda namnet Alfredshem eftersom det tillhört en konkurrent och ett mer illasinnat rykte påstår till och med att "Fahlgrens drängar" hade stulit virke från Kempe, virke som flottats från sågverket i Mo till upplagen i Domsjö vid Moälvens mynning.

The Four Colour Problem Kempe's Proof Alfred Bray Kempe 1849-1922 This proof uses an argument known as Kempe Chains and proceeds as follows: Suppose we have a map in which every region except one is coloured red, green, blue or yellow, and let the one blank region be known as X. If this final region X is not surrounded by regions of all four colours then one of the four colours can be used for X. Now suppose that X is surrounded by regions of all four colours. If X is surrounded by regions A, B, C, D in order, coloured red, yellow, green and blue then we must consider these two cases. Case 1: There is no chain of adjacent regions from A to C alternately coloured red and green. Case 2: There is a chain of adjacent regions from A to C alternately coloured red and green. If Case 1 is true, then there is no problem. Change A to green, and then interchange the colour of the red/green regions in the chain joining A. Since C is not in the chain it remains green and there is now no red region adjacent to X, so we can colour X red. If Case 2 is true, then there can be no chain of yellow/blue adjacent regions from B to D (it could not cross the chain of red/green regions). Hence Case 1 holds for B and D and we change colours as above.

WebLit : This site contains lots of links to other good sites, but its real claim to fame is its alphabetical list of authors and poets, with biographical and bibliographical information on each, from Dante to Pynchon. An extremely useful resource. Bookwire : This site also has good links to other sites; more important, it links you to lists of the Nobel, Pulitzer, Pen-Faulkner, and other award winners. And not least, it takes you to The Boston Review of Books and The Hungry Mind Review , among others. The Internet Book Information Center : This site contains book reviews, articles, author biographies, and also information on book-related Usenet groups. The Word : This site contains a list of links to other book sites, especially on-line journals and reference sources. A very inclusive list. Voice of the Shuttle is an excellent resource for information on just about anything under the sun (and beyond it), including literature. NYBooks, the Reader's Website
