This classic Telugu mythological is essentially a dramatization of the playful but portentous Book Five or Virata Parvan of the epic MAHABHARATA, in which the five Pandava brothers and their common wife Draupadi, exiled from their kingdom for twelve years in consequence of a rigged dice match, must pass a thirteenth year of agyat vas

in your email Manu, Parasara, Yajnavalkya, Gautama, Harita, Yama, Visnu, Sankha, Likhita, Brhaspati, Daksa, Angiras, Pracetas, Samvarta, Acanas, Atri, Apastamba and Satatapa are the eighteen sages who mastered the Vedas with their superhuman power and derived the Smrtis from them. Their works are known after them like Manusmrti, Yajnavalkya-smrti, Parasara-Smrti and so on, and they contain all that we need to know about all the dharmas to be adhered to and all the rituals to be performed during our entire life. Apart from these eighteen , there are eighteen subsidiary Smrtis called Upasmrtis . It is customary to include the Bhagavadgita among the Smrtis. What we find in one Smrti may not be found in the other. There may also be differences between one Smrti and another. These give rise to doubts which are sought to be cleared by works called "Dharmasastra Nibandhanas". There are some Smrtis which do not contain instructions with regard to all observances. For instance , some do not mention sandhyavandana. The reason must be it is such a common rite that everybody is expected to know it. Then some omit the sraddha ceremony and some others are silent on various types of "pollution" (for instance, that due to the birth of a child in the family or death of a relative). Certain matters are taken for granted. After all, we do not have to be told about how to breathe or eat.

Srila Locana Dasa Thakura Srila Locan Dasa Thakura took his birth in a family of brahmans who lived in a village in the Rada-desh, in Mahakumara, near Katwa, in the Burdhaman district of Bengal. When he was only a little boy, he enjoyed the good fortune of meeting the devotees of Sri Gauranga. His guru was Narahari Sarakara Thakura. In his Caitanya Mangala, Srila Locana Dasa Thakura has written: "My hope of hopes is to be near the lotus feet of Sri Narahari Thakura, to serve and worship him with my very life. The cherished desire of the fallen Locana Dasa is to be allowed by the grace of Narahari to sing the glories of Sri Gauranga. My Lord is Sri Narahari Thakura and I am his servant. Bowing and praying before him I beg him to allow me his service. This is my only aspiration." Previously in Bengal the poets used to compose sacred songs and verses in different forms of classic rhymes and rythmic meters called Panchali. The Panchali style of composition was especially used for glorifying the Lord. Srila Locana Dasa Thakura used the Panchali form of verse-meter in composing his famous work, Sri Caitanya Mangala. The Panchali form employs five different kinds of song-styles. The name of Sri Locana Dasas father was Sri Kamalakara Dasa. His mother's name was Sri Sadanandi. Locana Dasa was his father's only son and so was the darling of his parents. He spent the better part of his years staying at the house of his grandparents. There began his studies and his education. At a very young age, Sri Locana Dasa was married. From early childhood, Sri Locana Dasa had great attachment for Sri Gauranga and at the same time great detachment from material enjoyment.

PH0TO ALBUM Through The History Of Irinjalakuda Glimpses of History The ancient archives up to the 15th Century brings a historical light that brighten the dark corners of the origin of the name - Irinjalakuda. It transparently points out that 'Irinjalikoodal' was the old name of Irinjalakuda. 'Koodal' simply means merge together, merging of two rivers. The golden rays of history brighten the murky depths and the disappeared routes of rivers. According to the documents, two streams that start, one from Kurmalipuzha and the other from Kudapuzha, that belongs to Chalakudypuzha, and move through Konthipulam at North whereas, the other one through Velukara at South. Then these two streams merge together in the west. So it shows that Irinjalakuda may have gradually developed, from 'Irinjalikoodal', that derived from 'Inangikoodal', means - merge together. At present there is no river in Irinjalakuda, only but the myth of river. Irinjalakuda was the rather important and prominent village among all other villages, which is believed that created by Parasuraman. It was promoted in to

    75. Indian Astronomy : From Jantar-Mantar To Kavalur
Another Indian astronomer who made use of Arabic/Persian knowledge was kamalakara(b.1658 AD), who wrote a big treatise on astronomy called SiddhantaTatva
    http://www.vigyanprasar.com/dream/dec99/article1.htm
ARTICLE-1 Indian Astronomy : From Jantar-Mantar to Kavalur In 1947, the renowned American astronomer Harlow Shapley (1885-1972) lamented that although India produced great astrophysicists like Meghnad Saha (1893-1956) and Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar (1910-1995), her observing facilities were practically nil. In that first year of India's independence that remark, indeed, was in order. But during the last five decades the situation has radically changed. Now India possesses several first class facilities for astronomical observations. Now we have a number of radio telescopes in our country, the Giant Metre-wave Radio Telescope (GMRT) at Khodad near Pune being the largest of its kind in the world. At the time of independence India had only two, rather outdated, observatories : one at Kodaikanal and the other at Hyderabad. Now we have new observatories at Nainital, Mount Abu, Udaipur, Japal-Rangapur and Kavalur. The Kavalur observatory, named after its founder Dr Vainu Bappu, is one of the best equipped in the eastern hemisphere, its 2.3 metre aperture telescope being the largest in Asia. It was after independence that one of our leading astronomers, Dr Manali Kallat Vainu Bappu (1927-82), was first elected Vice-President (1967-73) and then President (1979-82) of the International Astronomical Union (IAU). Also, for the first time in 1985 the IAU Assembly was held in India. All this shows that India has now attained a respectable position in astronomical research. The story of India's endeavours in this field is a fascinating one. But before we come to that it would be useful to have a cursory glance at ancient India's achievements in mathematics and astronomy, as both the subjects were studied together.

The valedictory session of the three-day fete of fine arts organised at VUDA Children's Theatre under the aegis of Sanatana Dharma Charitable Trust, founded by Sadguru K. Sivananda Murthy of Anandavanam (Bhimili), recently got off to a grand start with the `guru satkara sabha' - an annual observance of an obligation on Gurupournami, which in turn has been an ensign of the age-old tradition of Sanatana Dharma. The renowned educationist and an exemplary follower and crusader of the ethos and ethics of the Hindu culture evolved out of Aarsha Vignanam, Pilla Rama Rao, who is the founder-member of the Bharatiya Vidya Kendram and former principal of the BVK College and Chairman of the Vidwath Parishad of the State unit of Vidya Bharati, was the choice for the honour. Offering the satkaram to Mr. Rama Rao, the Sadguru said: "It is a tribute to the immense potential of the fervour of a true patriotic educationist and the missionary zeal with which he made use of it in the form of kinetic dynamism. He still keeps himself fit at the age of 78 and continues to put his heart and soul serving the noble cause and deserve much higher honours."
