format this article to print HILL, GEORGE WASHINGTON (1814-1860). George Washington Hill, secretary of war and secretary of the navy in Sam Houston's qv cabinet, was born on April 22, 1814, at Hill Creek, Warren County, Tennessee. After attending common schools he received a degree in medicine from Transylvania University. He moved to Texas in 1836 and served as a surgeon at Fort Houston in 1836-37. The latter year he settled in Milam County and was elected county medical censor. There he married Matilda Slaughter. When Robertson County was formed from Milam County, Hill was elected to represent it in the Third, Fourth, Fifth, and Seventh congresses. In 1841 he was appointed Indian agent by Sam Houston and the same year moved to Spring Hill in Navarro County. From January 16, 1843, to December 9, 1844, he served as secretary of war and navy in Houston's cabinet. After annexation qv Hill resumed the practice of medicine in Navarro County. In 1855 he was appointed first agent for the Brazos Indian Reservation. qv He died at Spring Hill on May 29, 1860, and was buried there. Hill County was named in his honor.

George Alfred Hill, Jr., attorney and writer, son of George Alfred and Julia (McHugh) Hill, was born at Corsicana, Texas, on January 12, 1892. He attended West Texas Military Academy ( see TEXAS MILITARY INSTITUTE, SAN ANTONIO) and the University of Texas. He was admitted to the bar in 1911 and worked as assistant general attorney for the International-Great Northern Railroad from 1911 to 1917 and as a partner in the firm of Kennerly, Williams, Lee, and Hill from 1917 to 1932. He was vice president of the Houston Natural Gas Corporation from 1928 to 1932 and served as general counsel and president of the Houston Pipe Line Company and of the Houston Oil Company. Hill married Mary Van Den Berge on June 24, 1916. They were the parents of three children. During World War I qv Hill was captain of Troop C, Seventh Texas Cavalry. In addition to his membership in civil groups and oil organizations, he was a member of the Philosophical Society of Texas, the Sons of the Republic of Texas, and the Texas Folklore Society.q qv He was a life member of the Texas State Historical Association qv and chairman of the board of trustees of the San Jacinto Monument and Museum.

I have been long waiting for this game, mentally drooling at the thought of returning to a most favorite of locations in the realm of fantasy. I never expected that I would end up feeling the gamers equivalent of being forcibly anus raped by what came out of that box. The only thing scary about Silent Hill 3, is how such a brilliant series can be augered into the dirt. Let me tell you about Silent Hill 2, and about the horror genre, about what makes something powerful in this genre, and also define for you, along the way, what makes the classic television series The Twilight Zone utterly different from it's counterpart, the Outer Limits The big secret of horror, is not in what you see, it is in what you do not see. Author Stephen King once put this to the effect that if a filmmaker makes a movie about a giant 50 foot spider that eats people, this may scare the audience initially, but that after the movie -or worse, even durining it- a viewer may well, once the monster has been fully revealed, immediately imagine a 100 foot spider, and cease to be scared anymore. Whatever horror is imagined, the second it is defined, a greater version of that same horror can be imagined, reducing the perception of the original horror to an obstacle.

He was 81. Hill died at his Manhattan apartment of complications from Parkinson's disease, said Hill's son, George Roy Hill III. The Redford-Newman films brought Hill awards — "The Sting" won the Oscar for best picture and director — as well as the distinction of being the only director to have two films among the all-time top-10 moneymakers at that time. His ability to communicate the sense of what he wanted to do was unique," said Edwin S. Brown, his business manager for 35 years. "He took all of the world seriously except himself." "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" (1969) instilled new life to the fading western genre and added a fresh twist on the familiar Hole in the Wall Gang saga. Instead of playing Butch (Newman) and Sundance (Redford) as tough outlaws, Hill and screenwriter William Goldman made them free spirits for whom robbing banks was a lark.
