Traditional Dat Mo Stick A t the age of 75yrs, Master Deng Er Qian won a gold medal at the Shanghai championships, with the Dat Mo Stick. When he passed this form on to Bob Fermor, Master Deng said to him "Even though our two countries are far apart, when you perform the Dat Mo Stick, we will be as one". Bob Fermor being one of the United Kingdom's leading weapon experts, feels honoured to have gained this transmission of the Traditional Dat Mo Stick, as much of the Dat Mo Forms practised today are merely Broad Sword patterns, using a walking stick. Bob Fermor is very well known within the martial arts world as one of the leading weapons exponents. If you are interested in learning the Traditional Dat Mo Stick, then please do not hesitate to contact Bob Fermor Brief History of Traditional Dat Mo Stick I t is believed that the Traditional Dat Mo Stick Form comes from the Shaolin Temple and predates the burning of the temple in Henan. The Dat Mo Stick has two lineage branches: 1. Shaolin Si, 2. Tagou School. It is also believed that there are two sections of the Dat Mo Stick, Section 1 - composed of 40 forms and Section 2 - composed of 48 forms. The monks usually performed the two sections together as one set.

S. Campbell (University of New South Wales at the Australian Defence Force Academy), M. Hofmann (Technische Universität München) and S. Kennedy Interest in such rare-earth compounds has been stimulated by the success of Nd Fe T Si B [1]. This series is found to form with a tetragonal structure for the whole family of rare-earth elements (R = La to Lu, T= Co, Ni). This new phase provides an important link between the set of ternary systems epitomised by Nd-Co-B and Nd-Co-Si, thus allowing scope for the synthesis of a range of related compounds. Similarly, compounds based on the rare-earth transition-metal system with the tetragonal I4/mmm ThCr Si X compounds exhibits a wide range of phenomena including heavy fermionic and superconducting behaviour.

Tunable superstructures were generated by hydrothermally etching silicon wafers in the solution of HF containing ferric nitrate. The structural units of these superstructures arrayed perpendicular to the surface and their shapes could be formed as cone-like, pillar-like, or crater-pit-like through changing the solution concentration of Fe in the etching process. Nanostructured Ni Zn Fe O thick films were fabricated by a high velocity oxygen fuel (HVOF) thermal spray approach with over 98% of the theoretical density and with no cracks, followed by heat treatment under an oxygen atmosphere. Crystallographic, microstructural, as well as static and dynamic magnetic properties of the films were studied by x-ray diffraction, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, superconducting quantum interference device

An Introduction to Zhang Heng, a Scientist in the East Han Dynasty, and His Achievements in Astronomy (II)
Print version Among the most famous astronomers in ancient China, Zhang Heng of the East Han Dynasty was obviously the most brilliant. In the beginning of the book Ling Xian , Zhang tried to explain the origin of heaven and earth and the issues of evolution. He thought that before heaven and earth were separated, it was chaotic. Once they were separated, the light substances rose to form the heavens and the heavy substances coagulated to form the earth. Heaven contained the qi of yang and the earth contained the qi of yin . The two kinds of qi qi that was ejected from the earth formed stars. Zhang believed that stars moved slowly when they were close to heaven, and those far from heaven moved faster. In other words, he tried to explain speed of planets in terms of the distance between them and their suns. The History of the Eastern Han Dynasty

Chinese Astronomers
Zhang Heng (78-139) was a Chinese astronomer, geographer, and mathematician. He constructed a celestial globe, believing that the world was round, "The sky is like a hen's egg, and is as round as a crossbow pellet; the Earth is like the yolk of the egg, lying alone at the centre. The sky is large and the Earth small." He also created a primitive, but very fanciful seismograph . His approximation of pi was the square root of 10.

Zhang Sui
A Chinese astronomer and Buddhist monk of the Tang dynasty, Zhang Sui (683-727), was the first to describe proper stellar motion, or the apparent motion of stars across the plane of the sky relative to more distant stars. In Western astronomy, Edmond Halley is credited with this discovery in 1718 for some stars from Ptolemy's catalogue.
Cui Zhongji [Tsu Ch'ung-Chi]
Cui Zhongji [Tsu Ch'ung Chi] (430-501) was a Chinese mathematician and astronomer. In astronomy, he arrived at the precise time of the solstice by measuring the sun's shadow at noon on days around the solstice. He gave the rational approximation 355/113 to p which is correct to 6 decimal places.

Ma Lin Wins Men's Singles Title
Ma Lin and Qin Zhijian fought a classic penholder battle in the final match of the men's singles event. After 5 tough games, Ma emerged as the winner. In the semifinals held earlier in the day, Ma beat Kong Linghui 3-0, while Qin surprisingly defeated heavy favorite Wang Liqin 3-2. Wang Liqin beat Kong Linghui 2-0 to win the bronze medal.
Wang Nan/Zhang Rui Wins Women's Doubles
The Liaoning pair of Wang Nan and Zhang Rui won a tough 5-game battle (18, -16, 15, -20, 14) against Hebei's Bai Yang/Niu Jianfeng. The two pairs were close in ability. In Super League play, Bai/Niu had won twice over Wang/Zhang, but the scores were very close. This time Wang and Zhang prevailed. In the deciding 5th, the two Hebei players appeared to tighten up, and 17-year old Bai Yang made repeated errors on her forehand loops; those were the shots she executed with high percentages earlier in the match. Jiangsu's Li Ju/Zhang Yingying beat Henan's Zhang Hui/Tie Yana to pick up the bronze medal.

Revered Mountains and Ancient Temples: Mount Heng (N), the Most Significant Mountain in Northern China
Print version Tian Xin
The rocky ridge of Mount Heng at Dusk [PureInsight.org]
Mount Heng is the Northern Mountain of the Five Sacred Mountains. The Northern Mountain Mount Heng sounds identical in Chinese to the Southern Mountain Mount Heng, but their written Chinese characters are different. The Northern Mountain Mount Heng is in Chinese while the Southern Mountain Mount Heng is in Chinese. Its main peak soars majestically over the northern Shanxi Province. Legend has it that about 4,000 years ago, Emperor Shun, one of the two saintly emperors in Chinese history, came through on an inspection tour to the north Hun Yuan. Emperor Shun was amazed when he saw the majestic and towering peaks of Mount Heng. They appeared to him as the northern gate to heaven, and so he bestowed on Mount Heng the honorable title "the Northern Mountain." Therefore, Mount Heng became known as the king of the more than ten thousand mountains in northern China. Mount Heng was once called Mount Chang (or Mount Constance in Chinese), Heng Zong, Xuan Yue or Zi Yue. Mount Heng was first renamed Mount Chang during the Han and Song Dynasties. During the Tang and Song Dynasties, Mount Chang was renamed Damao Mountain or Shenjian Mountain. The Northern Mountain of Mount Heng has been discussed in history books since ancient times and is associated with many important historical incidents. According to the Yugong Chapter of
