It is reasonable to assume that before this Hecht worked in the mining industry in some capacity. After his studies Hecht took up the position of a mine manager, then he became a teacher at the Freiberger Berschule. Hecht was appointed second professor of mathematics at the Freiberg Bergakademie in 1816, becoming the first professor there in 1826. At first he taught pure and applied mathematics but later he taught only mechanics and mining machinery. He is best known for the high school texts which he wrote. These widely used school texts were on mathematics, geometry and surveying. Daniel Hecht: Geestdrift Wie nog een spannend boek wil lezen heb ik hier een aanrader Voor een goed spookverhaal heb je een spookhuis nodig en dat is aanwezig. Het staat eenzaam op een grote heuvel, alleen bereikbaar via een lange oprit, of dwars door het bos heen. Het huis is in bezit van Vivien, die meer tijd elders doorbrengt. Zij vraagt haar neef Paul om het huis op te knappen, wat zeker geen overbodige luxe is. Het huis is op een zeer gewelddadige manier gesloopt. Niets staat meer op zijn plek van binnen, geen raam zit meer in zijn kozijn. Het lijkt wel of een buldozer door het huis heengegaan is, of dat een zeer boze superman zich daar uitgeleefd heeft. Paul heeft het Tourette-syndroom, hij heeft bizarre tics, trekt aan onzichtbare bellen en doet mensen na. Er komen ook regelmatig erg ongepaste woorden uit zijn mond. Skull Session Review Summary In Skull Session, Daniel Hecht's first novel, we meet Paul Skoglund, a good natured man who is afflicted with Tourette's syndrome and currently out of work. When his rich, haughty, old Aunt Vivien calls from San Fransisco and asks him to repair the vandalism that has been done to her mansion, he dutifully takes on the job. Meanwhile, unbeknownst to Paul, a handfull of teenagers have been coming up missing in the area. Morgan Ford, a lonely, likeable, yet trigger happy police detective with a disreputable past is assigned to the missing teens case. He digs up clues using interviews, time tables, etc., but doesn't exactly hit the nail on the head; and does not realize the severity of the danger he is up against. Paul finds the mansion in an unbelievable condition; damages that are clearly not the work of simple vandalists. The mangled mess is astounding, only some kind of Superman could have inflicted this degree of mischief to the estate. Within the rubble, Paul finds secret family documents and photos, and discovers that he has some detective work of his own to do. Upon learning the secrets of his family's deranged and hidden past, he also begins to discover powers within himself that he never dreamed imaginable. He may be the only one who is able to stop the nonsensical violence that has been going on there for years.
