This CCD image was taken on 1997 March 5.71, using a 0.60-m f/6 Ritchey-Chretien telescope. Discovery Malcolm Hartley (U.K. Schmidt Telescope Unit, Australia) discovered this comet on a pair of plates exposed with a 1.2-m Schmidt on 1985 June 13.38 and June 13.48. He estimated the magnitude as 16 and said there was a prominent tail extending over one arc minute toward the southeast. Historical Highlights
  • Following Hartley's acquisition of a photo of the comet on July 10, Brian G. Marsden was able to compute an elliptical orbit which he first published on July 18. This revealed a perihelion date of 1985 June 11, a perihelion distance of 1.54 AU, and an orbital period of 5.66 years. During the first apparition, the comet was only kept under observation until August 14, or for barely two months. Subsequently, there was some uncertainty in the orbit. Using the available positions, S. Nakano predicted the comet would next arrive at perihelion on 1991 April 28.75. The comet might have become lost if it was not for the accidental recovery by Carolyn and Eugene Shoemaker and David Levy in 1991. Using the 0.46-m Schmidt at Palomar Observatory, the team announced the discovery of a comet on a pair of plates exposed on 1991 March 12. They described it as magnitude 16.5, diffuse and condensed, with a tail extending over one arc minute. Brian G. Marsden (Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics) noted the comet was about 16 degrees from the prediction for periodic comet Hartley 1 and was moving similar to what would be expected for that comet. He then computed an orbit that successfully linked the 1985 and 1991 positions, noting that Hartley 1 had passed 0.36 AU from Jupiter during 1988 February. Marsden showed that the comet's perihelion date in 1991 was May 17.68.

    Technopoly
Whether God is reduced to an image, a box, a book, or a machine, what all of these culturally-conditioned paradigms have in common is the desire to exert control over the One whom Christians proclaim is uncontrollable. These shifts in technology remind us that our experience of God is neither simply of the nature of the mind or of the feelings, but that worship and preaching, at their truest and best, engage all of the senses. When this happens, instead of closing down our understanding, they open up fresh possibilities for our encounter with a cruciform and incarnate God, whose gospel is life-changing in the midst of a control-oriented and experientially-obsessed culture.

'See You Round Like A Record' WRITTEN BY RICHARD HARTLEY, NELL CAMPBELL, AND BRIAN THOMSON Fever Fan Kit A twelve-inch disco remix of 'Fever' was also released. This remix is about 2 minutes longer, and has a completely different sound and style to it. The b-side to this twelve-inch single is 'See You Round Like A Record.' (Although it is the same version found on the seven-inch.) Both songs on this disc are featured on Songs From The Vaults which is available in The Rocky Horror Picture Show 15th Anniversary Box Set *****AVAILABILITY*****
ALL releases of this single have been out-of-print for years now and are very hard to find. However, the yellow vinyl seven-inch is the easiest of all the releases to find. The disco remix twelve-inch single was released in the US, but it's still very difficult to find. The 'Fever' promo kit with flip-book and pin is almost impossible to find and would probably have a very high price on it if found.

This is a 7" single, and was Little Nell's second (following up The Musical World of Little Nell ). With this single, Little Nell joins the legions of other singers (including the likes of Madonna) to remake the classic 'Fever'. As you can probably tell from the listings in the General Information section above, there are MANY different releases of this single. Most of the releases are pretty straightforward, with 'See You Round Like A Record' as a B-side to 'Fever'. The main release (AMS 7374) is like this, and was released on both yellow and black vinyl. But there are a couple of more interesting releases. First and foremost is the Fever Promotional Kit

This 12" single is basically like the 7" single , except that it includes a remix of 'Fever' that is about two minutes longer than the 7" version. 'See You Round Like A Record' is exactly the same on both 7" and 12", although the promotional release of the 12" single (SP-12031) includes the shorter 7" version of 'Fever' as the B-side instead of 'See You Round Like A Record'. Also, take note that none of the 12" singles include the cool picture sleeve that some of the 7" singles have. The 7" version of 'Fever' (along with 'See You Round Like A Record') was released as part of the Songs from the Vaults CD in the 15th Anniversary Box Set. Unfortunately though, the 12" version of 'Fever' has not as of yet been released on CD. For more information, please see my
