Twisted Harish-Chandra sheaves and Whittaker modules: The non-degenerate case (with D. Milicic)
In this paper we develop a geometric approach to the study of the category of Whittaker modules. As an application, we reprove a well-known result of B. Kostant on the structure of the category of non-degenerate Whittaker modules.

Combinatorics of Harish-Chandra modules
These lectures (given at a NATO-workshop 1997 in Montreal) survey recent work on the combinatorics of certain infinite dimensional representations of complex semisimple Lie algebras. Their focus is not on understanding the irreducible objects but rather on understanding the structure of suitable representation categories. They concentrate on the relation of these representation categories with categories of modules over the coinvariant algebra associated to the action of the Weyl group on a Cartan subalgebra. We also discuss conjectural generalizations to the representation theory of real Lie groups.

Great Kings Great Devotees Great Poets ... Great Personalities HARISCHANDRA Introduction With his vow to remain truthful at all times, Harischandra successfully faced the rigorous challenge posed by Vishwamitra. Though a king. He sacrificed everything he had at the attar of truth, including his Kingdom, and even his life and son. He took so lowly a job as that of the guard at burning ground; even in the case of his own son he demanded the prescribed fee for cremation, which his wife had no means of paying. On an order from the king, Harischandra even prepared to behead his own wife. Harischandra's character is indelibly etched in the mind of Hindus. Author - R.S.Rama Rao Harischandra The story of Harischandra is of perennial interest. The story will last for as long a time as the value of truth lasts. It illumines our life. It was this story which helped Yudhishtira to get over his adversities. Again, it was this story which showed the path of truth to Gandhiji. This story occurs in the Vedas and also in the Puranas, in poetry and in drama. It took its origin in the Vedas, flowed through the Puranas, ran into cascades of poetry, and has continued to enrich the life of our people. Pathak's battalion was given the task of capturing Pak Fatehpur, a well-fortified position held in strength by the enemy. During the attack, the enemy brought down intense and accurate artillery and small arms fire on the assaulting troops inflicting heavy casualties. Lt. Col. Pathak with complete disregard for his personal safety and displaying rare courage, moved forward and led the charge and captured the objective after a fierce hand-to-hand fight. The enemy launched two fierce counter-attacks. Lt. Col. Pathak's men beat back the enemy attack, inflicting heavy casualties. In this action, Lt. Col. H.C. Pathak displayed conspicuous gallantry, exemplary leadership and devotion to duty in the best traditions of the Army.

Defeated By Harishchandra
Vishwamitra created two beautiful dancing girls and sent them to the place where the king was camping. They purposefully talked with the king in a haughty manner.
Harishchandra became angry and turned them out with beatings. As per his plan Vishwamitra appeared before king Harishchandra and said, "You have beaten my daughters." As punishment for this either he should marry these low-cast girls or he took away the kingdom arid then demanded the money he had been gifted earlier. Harishchandra did not want to marry them. He gave away all that he had including his throne and treasury.
But that was not enough. Vishwamitra gave him time up to forty-eight days to make up the remaining gold. Harishchandra left his kingdom with his wife and son. Vishwamitra sent his disciple Nakshatraka along with them to trouble and tease them.
Harishchandra came to Kashi. He sold his wife and son, and then sold himself to slavery and paid the entire amount of gold due to Nakshatraka.

Mythological Tales THE TRUTHFUL KING: HARISHCHANDRA
King Harishchandra was the son of Trishanku, who was sent to heaven with his physical body by the grace of the sage Vishwamitra but was jealously pushed down by the deities, as a result of which, he kept hanging in between heaven and earth.
Harishchandra was renowned for his charitable nature, devotion and virtue. His empire was free from famines, epidemics and other calamities because of his religious powers. His subjects were content, happy and religious like him.
His truthfulness was famous in all the 3 Lokas (worlds). When Indra came to know about it from sage Narad, he became jealous of the king and to test his truthfulness, he sought Vishwamitra's help.
Vishwamitra, by the powers of his penance came in the king's dreams and demanded his whole kingdom to which Harishchandra readily agreed to give. Though, it all happened only in the dreams and it was far from reality, yet when Vishwamitra came to his palace, the very next day and made the same demand, the king gave him his whole kingdom and wealth. The whole earth was his kingdom and after relinquishing it for the benefit of Vishwamitra, he decided to move away to 'Kashi' as it is believed to be based on the Trishula of Lord Shiva. The scriptures have prohibited the use of things, once donated hence, 'Kashi' was the only place on the whole earth which was outside Vishwamitra's authority.
But, Vishwamitra demanded something as Dakshina (honorarium) to make such a great donation successful. But, Harishchandra had nothing in his possession. He sold his wife 'Shaivya' to a Brahmin to meet his demand his son Rohitashva went along with his mother. But even the selling of his wife was not enough to meet Vishwamitra's demand. So, he had no choice but to sell him to a man whose profession was to guard the cremation place and to collect the taxes for cremating the dead bodies.
