The need for accurate site-specific propagation is discussed in the context of current trends in the wireless industry. The first half of the report is dedicated to measuring and modeling continuous wave (CW) local-area path loss. Specifically, the text uses examples from a 5.85 GHz CW measurement campaign in and around suburban homes. Not only do these measurements demonstrate the validity of the original models and techniques presented in the thesis, but the results themselves may prove particularly useful for developing in-home wireless devices operating in the National Information Infrastructure band. This unlicensed spectrum was allocated in January of 1997 and holds promising applications for public and private telecommunications, home-based wireless internet, wireless local loops, and any number of wideband wireless applications. There is an in-depth development of deterministic propagation prediction techniques in the latter half of the thesis. The use of geometrical optics for terrestrial microwave propagation is discussed as well as an overview of the numerous ray tracing techniques that exist in the literature. Finally, a new 3D ray launching method is presented which improves upon many of the existing ray tracing algorithms. The thesis demonstrates how this algorithm is capable of recovering very detailed channel information from a wideband deterministic propagation prediction.

Seeing the production torn between drama and comedy, Mason predicted that it would flop, and he was correct. "Bathsheba" lasted for only 29 performances, and the New York Times called it "a long diffuse evening." Nevertheless, Darryl Zanuck owned the film rights and saw that some better scripting and more emphasis on sexuality could set the show right. Philip Dunne would address the first problem, and to ignite the flames on screen, Zanuck turned to Peck and Susan Hayward, the twin hottest properties in Hollywood in the late forties/early fifties. Objections to the red-headed, non-Semitic-looking Hayward were brushed aside, knowing that her looks could undo even David's piety. Initially, Hayward had some concerns about the film title. Couldn't it stay "Bathsheba" or be changed to "Bathsheba and David"? She sensed that it would be Peck's film and was upset by her starlet treatment by Henry King that led one critic to see her as a "lovesick cheerleader admiring the football hero" and breathing lines like, "David did you REALLY kill Goliath? Was he as big as they say?" On the other hand, critics unanimously applauded Peck's performance.

Yet as an Air Force Reserve Officer's Training Corp (ROTC) student, much of my academic world had been set up over the summer. My roommates poured over course guides, but my schedule was already laid out before me: math, economics, chemistry, Spanish and ROTC. My first college dilemma wasn't to find the right professor or class size, but to put together my uniform correctly. This being the case, I have had less time to stumble, but more time to focus on my other life choices. Despite working on a thesis, taking social studies tutorials, attending four-hour long weekly drill practices, doing Physical Training at dawn, and holding leadership positions within the Air Force, my calling has been community service. Through Education 4 Action (E4A), a social justice organization, I have facilitated discussions on race relations, led rallies to bring union picked grapes to campus, and engaged speakers to discuss gender issues. Also, through the First-Year Urban Program, I led incoming first-years and introduced them to public service in Boston. I derived great satisfaction from these projects and realized I wanted to do more. Community service has become my passion and is an activity I want to pursue further.
