Goldbach's Conjecture
Input file: goldbach.in
In 1742, Christian Goldbach, a German amateur mathematician, sent a letter to Leonhard Euler in which he made the following conjecture: Every even number greater than 4 can be
written as the sum of two odd prime numbers. For example:
  • 8 = 3 + 5. Both 3 and 5 are odd prime numbers.
Today it is still unproven whether the conjecture is right. (Oh wait, I have the proof of course, but it is too long to write it on the margin of this page.) Anyway, your task is now to verify Goldbach's conjecture for all even numbers less than a million.
Input Specification
The input file will contain one or more test cases.
Each test case consists of one even integer n with
Input will be terminated by a value of for n
Output Specification
For each test case, print one line of the form n = a + b , where a and b are odd primes. Numbers and operators should be separated by exactly one blank like in the sample output below. If there is more than one pair of odd primes adding up to n , choose the pair where the difference b - a is maximized. If there is no such pair, print a line saying "Goldbach's conjecture is wrong."

    1940s Telephone manual
CONTACT SHEET There are handy tips to be learned about voice inflection and telephone manner by thumbing through this 1940s telephone owner's manual. Some things are a little dated, such as "allow at least a minute for an answer." Do that with my numbers and you're in voice mail hell. Which is why this 1940s gem provides such a perfect snapshot of our times. Today, the only real voice you'll get for a phone call is probably one in an outsourced call centre overseas. Perhaps that's where this manual is being used today. Contact Sheet "How to make friends by telephone"

    Compromise in company IT
CLONMEL Many organisations have to live with the rules set by the CIO. Sometimes that means having company desktops locked down and administrative rights to laptops restricted so people cannot install unapproved software on the network. I understand this but also resist the constraints.
As a former SYSADMIN, I faced down users who needed their own productivity tools. Some of their installations would have pre-empted the lion's share of network traffic.

Goldbach's Prime Pairs
Ivars Peterson Like the elements in chemistry, prime numbers serve as building blocks in the mathematics of whole numbers. Evenly divisible only by themselves and one, primes are a rich source of speculative ideas that mathematicians often find simple to state but difficult to prove. The Goldbach conjecture is a prime example of such a conundrum. In a letter written in 1742 to Leonhard Euler (1707–1783), the historian and mathematician Christian Goldbach (1690–1764) expressed the belief that every integer greater than 5 is the sum of three primes. (See the letter at http://www.euler2007.com/Letter_1742-Mathematics.htm Euler replied, pointing out that Goldbach's statement is equivalent to the conjecture that every even integer greater than or equal to 4 is the sum of two primes. He went on to note, "that every even number is a sum of two primes, I consider an entirely certain theorem in spite of that I am not able to demonstrate it." Progress in proving the Goldbach conjecture has been slow. In the best effort to date, Chen Jing-Run proved in 1966 that beyond some large number, every even integer may be written as the sum of a prime number and a number that is either a prime or a product of two primes.

92. La Conjecture De GOLDBACH

http://serge.bertorello.free.fr/math/goldbach.html
