fuchs : Sandor Fuchs I am looking for information on my family.
I know my grandfather arrived in the United on November 14, 1906 from the Port in Fiume. His name was Sandor Fuchs. He was 15 when he arrived. He was from Aranyos Megyes in Magyar (Hungary). In contacting a researcher in Hungary, I was informed Aranyos Megyes is now Romania though it was part of Hungary then.
My grandfather had a brother named John who also came to the United States a few years later. My grandfather had a sister who's name I do not know but she stayed in Aranyos Megyes. My grandfather's father was named Alexis Fuchs and his mother's name was Malvina Fuchs. Alexis died before the war. Malvina and her daughter were captured and sent to Aushwitz where they were murdered by the Nazi's. We know this because the daughter had a daughter who survived and moved to Israel. My grandfather corresponded with her until his death. Unfortunately, when grandfather died, my uncle didn't think to keep his address book so I don't even know her name.

Belinda Lazarus This site is Home TEXT TOPICS OUTCOMES ... TOP Dear Students, Welcome to Assessment of the Learner. Assessment is the cornerstone of instructional planning for students with disabilities. In this course you will gain an understanding of the assessment process and how it guides instructional decisions like what we teach, how we teach, when we teach, how much we teach, etc. The course addresses three major areas. First, the whole area of assessment including standardized tests and informal strategies, how to prepare for and conduct assessments, and how to select tests and strategies to ensure results that are valid and unbiased will be examined. Second, tests and strategies for assessing academic achievement, specific academic areas, and learning aptitude are described. And, finally, ways to interpret and use assessment data are addressed. The on-line version of ED N503 enables students to complete the entire course at their own pace anytime, anywhere. The formal term for anytime-anywhere learning is asynchronous learning. Students, will learn the content by reading the assignments, visiting specific web sites, participating in an on-line discussions and then completing and submitting competencies for grading. Once you have completed all of the sessions, I will send to you a final exam that you complete and submit via email to me. You may do all of the sessions at your own pace (e.g., 4 weeks, all semester, 10 weeks, etc.). Only the on-line discussions have deadlines.

Families from Stundwiller, Oberroedern, and Aschbach

The villages of Stundwiller , Oberroedern, and Aschbach, are very near one another in northern Bas-Rhin (Alsace), France. They share the same Catholic parish, St. George's. Twice in history, once in the mid-1700's and later in the 1970's they briefly merged into a single municipality, but today they are separate. I transcribed this information from the Aschbach microfilm records beginning in November, 2002. I did not transcribe every record found, only records for families and time periods in which I have an interest. The project is incomplete and still ongoing.

The Variation of the Adiabatic Elastic Constants of KCl, NaCl, CuZn, Cu, and Al with Pressure to 10,000 Bars
    David Lazarus
Department of Physics, University of Chicago, Chicago, Illinois
Received 4 April 1949 The adiabatic velocities of sound for longitudinal and transverse waves in single crystal specimens of five cubic solids have been measured as a function of pressure to 10,000 bars, using a pulse technique. The elastic constants calculated from these data in general agree well with previous measurements obtained for zero pressure elastic constants and compressibilities. With increasing pressure the anisotropy increases in crystals which are not closest-packed, but decreases in closest-packed structures. Consideration of the exchange force between nearest neighbors gives a qualitative explanation for this effect. Comparison of the present measurements with previous measurements of the variation of elastic constants with temperature indicates that the elastic moduli cannot be considered functions of volume alone but must also depend explicitly on the temperature.
