Hi! Welcome to the Franklin descendants page. We would like to invite you to join an email group of Franklin descendants, or just let others know how you relate to one of the Franklin branches. It's just an informal way to keep track of who's who, and how we all relate to one another. The only requirement is, of course, that you be a Franklin descendant!
The names as indicated below are Franklin descendants who wish to unite in efforts to unify research and form a common bond apart from the broader spectrum of Franklin contacts, such as the rootsweb mail list or GenWeb query sites. This message is an invitation for you to join this list. Simply fill out the form at the bottom of this page, or send your name and lineage to Terry Dean Olson , beginning with the earliest Franklin in your line, as shown below. Ending with your great grandparents is alright, or whatever you're comfortable with. Many are aware of the dangers of providing too much information about themselves over the internet, including a mother's maiden name, which is often used as a password for credit cards, and such. For those with an hosted email list, current "members" are reminded to add only those making a request to be added, and removing promptly, anyone desiring removal. Current listmembers may at any time request removal from the list by such a request to those listed, or to the host, who will forward the request. Members may also include or remove lineage information about themselves at any time. After you post your information below, you will go to another page with information regarding hosted email lists for your lineage.

Senator SMITH. Mr. Franklin, I was somewhat persistent in my inquiries from you yesterday as to the time when you received the first information regarding the collision between the Titanic, of your line, and the iceberg. Mr. FRANKLIN. Quite right, sir. Senator SMITH. You have been kind enough to file with me telegrams, wireless, cable, and otherwise, between your offices in England and the officers of your ships, and their communications with you. As we figured out yesterday, your first authentic information came in answer to a telephone message from you to your office in Montreal about 2.30 Monday morning? Mr. FRANKLIN. Of course, as I have said before, Senator Smith, we considered that our first really authentic information came from Capt. Haddock. Our telephone message to Montreal was to ask Montreal could confirm this rumor. Our Montreal representative replied about an hour later saying that he had confirmation of the rumor in Montreal. Senator SMITH. That comes back to my information from the Virginian?

Philip Freneau - On The Death Of Dr. Benjamin Franklin Thus, some tall tree that long hath stood The glory of its native wood, By storms destroyed, or length of years, Demands the tribute of our tears. The pile, that took long time to raise, To dust returns by slow decays: But, when its destined years are o'er, We must regret the loss the more. So long accustomed to your aid, The world laments your exit made; So long befriended by your art, Philosopher, 'tis hard to part! When monarchs tumble to the ground, Successors easily are found: But, matchless FRANKLIN! what a few Can hope to rival such as YOU, Who seized from kings their sceptered pride, And turned the lightning darts aside.

    Two-Time Pulitzer Winner Franklin
    Returns to Maryland J-School
For Immediate Release Feb. 13, 2001 COLLEGE PARK, Md. Two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Jon Franklin, a pioneer in literary nonfiction writing and an expert in unraveling complex scientific advancements for the masses, is returning to the University of Maryland faculty, campus officials announced Tuesday. Franklin becomes the Philip Merrill College of Journalism's first Merrill Chair in Journalism, returning to the school where he graduated with high honors in 1970 and taught from 1986 to 1989. The appointment is effective immediately, and he will begin teaching this summer. Franklin won the Pulitzer Prize for feature writing in 1979 and the Pulitzer for explanatory writing in 1985 - the first Pulitzers ever awarded in those categories - for his work at The (Baltimore) Evening Sun, where he was an innovator in literary techniques in journalism. "He is one of the greatest practitioners and teachers of feature writing in all of journalism," said Professor Gene Roberts, former managing editor of the New York Times. "Having him return to Maryland is another great step in making the University of Maryland College of Journalism the finest in the nation." Franklin returns to the College Park campus from Raleigh, where he has been a narrative writer, special assignments editor and writing coach for The News and Observer since 1998. Between his Maryland stints, Franklin also was chairman of the journalism program at Oregon State University and director of the creative writing program at the University of Oregon.

Texas Tech University hosted the American String Teachers Association's 3rd National Guitar Symposium. The event, sponsored by ASTA's Guitar Division, took place October 24-28, 1979 in Lubbock, Texas. Guitarists and educators came from around the country to help make it one of the finest guitar gatherings ever held. Symposium activities fell into four main categories: 1) lecture-demonstrations; 2) mini-concert series; 3) master-classes; and 4) major concerts by internationally acclaimed artists.
The morning sessions were devoted to the presentation of lectures and workshops on the history, technique and pedagogy of the guitar. It would be impossible here to detail the content of the many fine presentations made, but perhaps a quick overview of topics presented will give an idea of their scope.
Speakers for the first session were Paul Cox, Matanya Ophee and Brian Jeffery. They examined some of the earliest methods for the guitar and were able to demonstrate that many of the current controversial issues in guitar technique were actually raised over 150 years ago by Sor, Aguado and others. Of interest to many was Mr. Ophee's modern version of Aguado's famous tripod, a device designed to hold the guitar securely and allow the performer to assume a more natural sitting position.
