    THE JOHN FISKE FAMILY
JOHN FISKE [#964], b. England abt. 1619, d. Watertown, MA 28 Oct 1684,[7/56] m. Watertown 11 Dec 1651[7/16] SARAH WYETH (dau. of Nicholas Wyeth and Margaret Clarke), bap. Saxtead, Suffolk, England 28 Oct 1632. According to one account, John Fiske came to America with his brother Nathan, another ancestor, and their father Nathaniel, who is suppossed to have died on the voyage over. The mother had probably died in England.[1] However, a later account has John as the first cousin twice removed from Nathan with no word on the death of John's father Nathaniel.[6/497] John took the oath of fidelity in 1652. In the third inventory of lands in Watertown, taken about 1646, John Fiske had six acres of upland bounded on the east with Henry Dow, west with Thomas Bartlett, north with Thomas Hastings, and south with Robert Vezy.[5/1:145] On December 16, 1670, John and two others were admonished before the selectmen "for not Learning their Children to read the english toung: weer convenced did acknowlidg their neglects and did promise a mendment".[4/1:103] On January 11, 1672-3, selectmen Nathan Fiske, John Whitney, and Isaac Mixer made a return of their inquiry into the education of John Fiske's children. They found that John's children were neither taught to read nor to "caticise".[4/1:114] February 9, 1674-5 Thomas Flagg, John Whitney, and Joseph Bemis gave an account of what they had found that John Fiske was "wholy negligent of Edducating his children as to Reding or catticising the seleckt men agreed that Joseph bemus should warn him to ansur for his neglect at the next meeting of the seleckt men".[4/1:122]

The Fiske Guide to Colleges 2004 (Fiske Guide to Colleges) > Customer Review #1: Not All That I Expected

I was disappointed that there were only reviews of about five or six New Jersey colleges. I was expecting a larger representation. Schools such as Montclair and Ramapo were absent from the catalogue.
I was considering returning the book, but there was other material in the book that could prove useful so I decided to save myself the trouble and just keep it. The Fiske Guide to Colleges 2004 (Fiske Guide to Colleges) > Customer Review #2: Read This Before Choosing A College This is a perennial leader in college reference books. It has near everything about near every college. So, how do you make the right choice? The answer is, understand the real purpose of college education as told by the greatest educators, such as education pioneer Thomas Jefferson. To understand, I suggest you read the book based on Thomas Jeffersons wisdom called "West Point: Character Leadership Education: Thomas Jefferson" by Norman Thomas Remick before you make any decisions. Its a heads up. It will help you make the right decision so that you will have no regrets later down the road. It brings the real purpose of education into clear focus for you before you go on to pour over the colleges in Edward B. Fiskes "The Fiske Guide To Colleges 2004"

Tävlingen sker i vattnen kring Algrund. För anmälan till 2004 års tävling kontakta Thomas med ett mail. Adressen är:

    Updated December 8, 2003
From Early Rhode Island on the Fiske side to Early Virginia and Kentucky on the Pryor side, with some Bavarians mixed in, the family genealogy is a mixture of engineers, lawyers, politicians, very brave women and some folks whose hands actually fit a plow. They led or just kept up with the growing new Country. Additional names on the Fiske side are: Sebastian, Smidth, Greene, Rhode, Williams, Carpenter, Arnold, Knight, and Paul.Additional names on the Pryor side are: Marshall, Samuell, Grover, Vallandingham, Sparks, Towles, Edwards, Walker, Rogers, Clark, Shipp, Brent and Curd. They were on only one side of the Revolutionary War and on both sides of the War Between the States. Included in their histories are stories of unjust imprisonment, murder, eternal love, and genteel poverty. The movie will be outstanding. I am researching these names and others. Help will be greatly appreciated and exchanges of information will be forthcoming.
My research has resulted in three books: "Four on the Floor," "The Courage Place" and "A Time to Heal." These last two are historical novels and can be found on any of the dot com book stores.

    53. Media Perspectives On The Thomas Hearings
Keep fiske s ideas about media event in mind as you investigate the followingquestions concerning the role of the media in the thomas hearings.

Media Perspectives on the Thomas Hearings
There are many questions to consider as you read the sources both on the main page for this unit and in the related links section below. As you investigate the media's role in the Thomas hearings and how the hearings took on a life of their as a "media event", keep in mind the following ideas from John Fiskes' Media Matters. He notes that: The term media event is an indication that in a postmodern world we can no longer rely on a stable relationship or clear distinction between a "real" event and its mediated representation. Consequently, we can no longer work with the idea that the "real" is more important, significant, or even "true" than the representation. A media event, then, is not a mere representation of what happened, but it has its own reality, which gathers up into itself the reality of the event that may or may not have preceded it. He argues that media events are important even though at times they seem unreal because they are public struggles over meaning and power. In the Thomas hearings questions were raised as a result of who got to speak, when they were allowed to speak, who was listening to the speakers, and how each of these situations were presented through the media. Fiske argues that:
