I have been asked by several members of the family to write down what I know of our family’s history. So I will attempt to put in writing what I have learned thus far.
The name Griffith, in Welsh, means gruff, fierce and terrible, and was the name of the first Welsh king, or head chieftain, that is mentioned in Welsh history. In Christian names of men and women it means “having great faith.”
In early Welsh it was spelled "Grippiud". which became Griffudd and then Gruffudd on its way to its modern Welsh form of Gruffydd.
Medieval scribes of English or French origin spelled the name "Griffith" and this form ultimately gained acceptance. The form Griffin was also commonly used, especially in Latin documents where it was better suited to take Latin case endings.
The Welsh people descended from the Celtic race of mankind, and at one time inhabited the entire island of Britain. They were, in ancient times, driven into the mountains of Wales and Scotland, by the invading Anglos, Saxons and Jutes.
Until the 15th century, the Welsh used only one name, as was common to many people, last names were unkown. Also, like other peoples, they added “the son of”, and added the father’s name, to differentiate between like names. So, while the Irish used Mc or O’, and the Scots used Mac, the Welsh used either Ap or Ab. So if your name was John, and your father’s name was William, you would be referred to as John Ap William. Before the Welsh people learned to read and write, the recited their Aps as a way to prove ownership of land. It was said every good Welshman could recite his Aps back to Noah. This is known as the Patronymic System.

http://www.geocities.com/griffith_heritage
History Of The Name Evans Evans is derived from the name Ieuan which along with Ioan is Welsh for John (the Welsh language is still quite strong in Wales). It originated as a first name at a time in Wales when there were no surnames, when people would be named according to their father (for example, William son of Ieuan) would be William ap Ieuan, "ap" being Welsh for "son of").
But when such names were written down in the Middle Ages (usually by English clerics who couldn't understand or pronounce Welsh) the "u" would often became a "v" and the "I" would be dropped off leaving "E". It led to a lot of variations and when surnames began to be established in Wales in the 17th and 18th centuries (usually by dropping "ap" and consolidating the last name) Evans was by far the most common of the Ieuan variations. When permanent surnames were adopted in Wales, Ieuan sometimes became Jones and sometimes Evans.
EVAN, EWAN, EWING: well-born.
There are several early references to the name Ieuan and Ievan in Welsh history. In the 6th century, there was a St. Ieuan. St. Ceidio’s church is dedicated to Ceidio the son of Caw, and is located in an almost circular cemetery. Llantrisant old church is dedicated to three saints; St. Gafran, St. Ieuan and St. Sannan.

Urethane cast parts manufacturer Griffith Polymers was ready to expand its offices and manufacturing space, but had very specialized needs. Urethane products require specific manufacturing measures to ensure safety, including isolated HVAC, airlocks, employee safety systems, and special materials storage areas. Griffith Polymers wanted a simple, functional design along with quality construction, and trusted Robert Evans Company to make the most of their investment. REC tackled the unique design/build project—including offices, manufacturing space and a chemical isolation room. The 50,000 square foot, pre-engineered concrete and steel building was a $1.8 million project.

Evans Family History
Introduction
Tom and Lydia Evans emigrated with their family to New Zealand in 1952 from Glan Conwy in North Wales, where they farmed at Rhyd Ifan. Thomas Evans was born at a farm called Nant Erw in the Llandewi district of Denbighshire, North Wales in 1903. His parents were Evan Evans and Hannah Jones. Evan married Hannah shortly after her first husband's death in 1897, when she was left with a family of five young children. Evan had followed two of his brothers to work in the coal mines in Pennsylvania, U.S.A., but returned to Wales to marry Hannah. Evan's brothers remained in the United States, but William made a trip back to Wales with his son in 1906. Contact between the Welsh / New Zealand and American families was resumed in February 2003 when a descendant of William Evans found this website. N.B.
