Expanding Universe Models Willem de Sitter universe Model of expanding universe in which there was neither matter nor radiation. Although unrealistic, it established that the universe might be expanding rather than static. Proposed by Dutch physicist Willem de Sitter, 1917 Friedmann universe Model of an expanding universe that can collapse in on itself, proposed by Alexander Friedmann (1888-1925) on discovering the error in Einstein's work on cosmology. His work was completely ignored after its publication in 1922 and 1924. Model of the universe that begins with the explosion of a giant "primeval" atom, has a static phase, and then expands indefinitely, proposed by Georges Lemaître (1894-1966), published 1927. Einstein-de Sitter universe Simplest of the modern cosmological models in which the universe has zero pressure and zero curvature and is of infinite extent, expanding without limit and for all time, proposed in 1932. It became the foundation of cosmology for more than 60 years, the model is an elaboration of Einstein's theories of gravity as developed by him and Willem de Sitter, to explain the evolution of large structures like galaxies in an expanding universe Spin networks Knotlike diagrams as a solution to a special version of Einstein's gravitational equations, invented by Lee Smolen and Carlo Rovelli, late 1980s.
