Wenn wir das lateinische Präfix in eine Zahl umwandeln (also bi bedeutet n=2, tri n=3 ...), dann gälte der folgende einfache Term für die Zahl der Nullen: 103+3n. "n" gibt dabei sozusagen die Zahl der Punkte zwischen den Nullen an: Eine "billion" (n=2) wäre 1.000.000.000, mit zwei Punkten zwischen den Nullen. Ein Leser hat mich darauf hingewiesen, dass das hier Chuquet zugeschriebene Zitat falsch ist. Er hat Recht. hier (sogar inklusive GIF vom Manuskript) nachlesen. C huquet verwendet also nicht I Wikipedia-Artikel s. v. "Billion". Wer wissenschaftliche Ansprüche hat, sollte nie von einer Vorlage abschreiben, die keine Quellen für ihre Informationen angibt. In der Wissenschaft muss stets (im Gegensatz zur Juristerei) die Schuldighaftigkeitsvermutung gelten. Zumal Artikel, die in der Rubrik "Glosse" erscheinen, sind nicht immer bis ins Letzte mit wissenschaftlicher Methode recherchiert sind. D ie Autoren weisen darauf hin, dass Billion usw. zwar zum ersten Mal bei Chuquet auftauchen, der aber nicht deren Erfindung für sich beansprucht hat und sie daher wohl von woanders übernimmt. Jehan Adam hatte neun Jahre früher bereits die Begriffe "trimillions" und "bymillions" verwendet (Traicte d'arismetique pour la pratique par gectoners, Bib. Sainte Geneviève, Paris, MS Français 3143).

Con i suoi lavori sulla teoria degli insiemi e la topologia è stato uno dei matematici le cui idee hanno maggiormente influenzato la matematica contemporanea. Cardano Girolamo (1502-1576) Nasce a Pavia e studia a Padova medicina. Nel 1534 diventa insegnante di matematica in una scuola milanese, pur continuando l'attività di medico. Nel 1543 accetta la cattedra di medicina all'Università di Pavia, poi, nel 1562, all'Università di Bologna; ma, nel 1570 viene improvvisamente accusato di eresia, arrestato e perde il posto. Cardano scrisse trattati concernenti gli argomenti più disperati.
