The Forced Transfer of Palestinians Michael Harbouq
harbouq@yahoo.com
The word transfer in the Zionist dictionary means expulsion and uprooting of the Palestinians from their homeland to make room for the Zionist colonialist settlers in Palestine. When Palestine was separated from southern Syria and occupied by Britain, to facilitate the creation of the Zionist entity, Weizmann asked for preferential treatment and for state lands to settle 40,000 to 50,000 Jews per year. Ormsby-Gore, who was attached to the Zionist Commission as Political Officer of the British Government, accepted Weizmann’s arguments and was in favor of granting his requests.” in favor of encouraging non-Muslims, Europeans and Jews, to develop and stabilize the Near East in view of the fact that “Islam” was the main danger. Since the Zionist Organization provided the required human element to man the Palestinian output in Europe's fight against Islam, it is in the interest of England to assist the Zionist Organization and any other organization, which may cooperate with them in the practical development of Jewish colonization in Palestine.” The Weizmann Ormsby-Gore move was realized in 1948 when thousands of Palestinians were murdered or expelled from their land to make space for the Zionist settlers. Palestinian refugees and their decendants are forced to live in miserable camps and in exile. They number over six millions at present and I am one of them.

"Two-Gun" Cohen (1887 (i)
Abridged from an article by Rena Krasno
Additional Information by Michael Alderton Nicknamed ‘2-Gun Cohen,’ Morris Cohen was the only foreigner ever to become a member of the Kuo-mintang, China's ruling party. He received his elementary education at the Jews' Free School in Camden Town, London's East End. The school was a refuge and a means of escape from poverty, educating the pupils in both secular and religious studies. Also to pass through its doors were Barney Barnato, Bud Flanagan, Alfred Marks, Israel Zangwill and Selig
Brodetsky. Morris was something of a tear-away and spent some time in reform school. He went to Canada to escape from this lifestyle. Fascinated with the ideas of Chinese revolutionaries, Morris met the famous leader Dr. Sun Yat-Sen in person in Canada whilst he was a young man, becoming his lifel ong admirer. Dr. Sun appointed him his aide decamp, with the rank of colonel, in recognition of his devotion. Procuring weapons and smuggling them into China to aid the fight against corrupt feudal lords. He went armed night and day with two holstered pistols, one on his hip, the other slung about his shoulder, thus earning the nickname of "Two-Gun." This was a result of the following incident. "The bullet that caught me in the left arm had made me think. Supposing it had been my right arm and I carried my gun that side, I'd not have been able to use it. As soon as we got back to Canton I got me a second gun, another Smith and Wesson revolver, and I packed it handy to my left hand. I practised drawing and soon found that I was pretty well ambidextrous one gun came out about as quick as the other."

EDWARD NORMAN (continued)
Change in Attitude of American Government
About the end of 1941, Dr. Immanuel Velikovsky was urging Norman to further his Iraq project. Velikovsky was born in Russia in 1895. His father was, with Herzl, one of the founders of modern political Zionism. Immanuel Velikovsky was a prominent scientist who had put forward the idea that a great natural catastrophe had taken place at the period of the Exodus from Egypt. He then researched this idea and wrote his books “Ages in Chaos” and “Worlds in Collision”. Between 1924 and 1939, he lived in Palestine, but after that he took up residence in the United States. As a result of Velikovsky’s urging, Norman invited a number of people to a meeting at his house. At this meeting, he said that he had reached the stage in this matter where he was no longer willing to proceed entirely on his own initiative, without any other Jewish leaders being willing to share with him in the responsibilities of thinking through the practical plan of action to be pursued.(573H) A few months later, at the beginning of March 1942, Norman wrote a memorandum entitled "The Jews and the Post-War World"(574) which he submitted a few weeks later during a meeting with the State Department. In his memorandum, Norman wrote that as a result of the "racial" policies of "totalitarian" governments, the Jews of Europe would find it very difficult to rehabilitate financially after the war. He felt it might be beneficial if a large proportion of the Jews were to leave Europe, but the difficulty would be in finding a country which would be ready to accept them.(575)

Brodetsky lectures
A new series of Brodetsky Memorial Lectures is to be inaugurated focusing on science and Jewish history and culture. Selig Brodetsky held the chair of applied mathematics from 1924-48, and following his death in 1954, a lecture series was instituted to reflect his broad scientific and Jewish interests. Discontinued in 1989, the lectures are now being revived by the centre for Jewish studies, the schools of mathematics and philosophy and CentreCATH. In the first event of the new series, Professor Menachem Fisch of the University of Tel Aviv will lecture on Reading God's two books: science and the Talmud's debate on religion . The lecture takes place at 5.30pm on Thursday 30 May in the Yorkshire Bank Lecture Theatre. Admission is free, but by ticket only. For tickets, contact Josine Opmeer on ext 31629 or email

jpr report No. 5 1997 The attachment of British Jews to Israel For all who want to influence the future relationship between British Jews and Israel, an understanding of where that relationship now stands and where trends suggest it might be going is essential.
Overall it was found that 43 per cent of the sample felt a strong attachment to Israel. Yet, if current trends prevail, attachment to Zionism and to the Jewish state could become the concern of only a minority with a mostly Traditional or Orthodox religious outlook.
Barry Kosmin, Antony Lerman and Jacqueline Goldberg
Summary of findings The findings in this report are based on a 1995 postal survey of a sample of 2,194 British Jews.
  • Overall it was found that 43 per cent of the sample felt a strong attachment to Israel, 38 per cent were moderately attached, 16 per cent expressed no special attachment, while 3 per cent had negative feelings towards Israel.

British versus Jewish group identity
  • When respondents selected one of the following ways of self-identification, 18 per cent replied that they felt 'more British than Jewish', 54 per cent that they felt 'equally British and Jewish' and 26 per cent that they felt 'more Jewish than British'. Only 2 per cent were unsure.
  • When these group identifications were analyzed according to age group, the percentage of those identifying themselves as more Jewish was highest among the youngest respondents and decreased with age. There was a concomitant increase with age in feeling equally British and Jewish.

Wisliceny agreed to take their bribe and to consider the transport, but was concerned that it be done secretly in order not to antagonise the Mufti who wanted no Jews released. The first instalments of the bribe were paid, but the Nazis nevertheless set up ghettos in the provinces. Then, on 25 April, Eichmann summoned Joel Brand and told him that he was to be sent to negotiate with the WZO and the Allies. The Nazis would allow a million Jews to leave for Spain in exchange for 10,000 trucks, soap, coffee and other supplies. The trucks were to be used exclusively on the eastern front. As a token of Nazi good faith, Eichmann would allow the Zionists the preliminary release of a Palestine convoy of 600. However, Brand was in fact arrested by the British. Shertok interviewed Brand on 10 June in Aleppo. Brand described the encounter in his book, Desperate Mission (as told to Alex Weissberg): In fact Brand was escorted by a British officer to imprisonment in Egypt. They stopped in Haifa, where he strolled around the harbour:

FOUNDING AMERICA'S SOCIAL SYSTEMS
Social Security and Medicare are today considered landmarks in the long struggle to achieve social justice for the nation's elderly, poor, sick and disabled. Most of our unemployed, indigent and otherwise needful citizens could rely only on the meager help of voluntary support such as public charity - until 1940. During that year, the federal government posted off its first social security payment. The even rewarded a mission by a handful of staunch crusaders to lift the burden of poverty and despair from tens of millions of Americans for generations to come. Among the handful were two compassionate Jewish activists in government service who led that campaign and rightfully deserve being called the fathers of the social security in America. Despite their historic accomplishments, both remain virtually unknown. Their paths had met and we meet them now. ISAAC RUBINOW (1875-1936) b. Gordon, Russia Medical Doctor/Economist/Social Worker. He emigrated to the United States and soon after earned a degree in medicine. But he left his practice within several years, distressed at how our medical system ignored the many without the means for decent care. He switched to economics, which together with his knowledge of medicine, would serve as tools to help reverse the system's insensitivity and disregard. Rubinow insisted that all Americans should enjoy a guarantee of social insurance to provide for human needs "without injury to the man's ego and self-respect."

SINCE VERY FEW AMERICAN JEWS lived in Mandatory Palestine, the American influence on the Yishuv has not been examined in any great depth. Recently, however, two important American Jews, Golda Meir and Henrietta Szold, have been given greater attention by scholars. Yet Judah L. Magnes (1877-1948) continues to be overlooked or presented as inconsequential because of "his increasing marginalization in Palestine." As the first Chancellor (and later President) of The Hebrew University in Jerusalem and the leading proponent of the bi-national plan for Palestine, however, Magnes was at the very center of Jewish public life in Mandatory Palestine. To dismiss him is to leave a lacunae in the history of Jews in Mandatory Palestine, particularly with regard to the American influence. Indeed, not only was Magnes's influence much more significant than historians have suggested, he also challenged Zionist leaders and the
