Satyendra Nath Bose January 1 February 4 ) was an Indian physicist specializing in mathematical physics . Bose was born in Kolkata (Calcutta), the eldest of severn children. His father, Surendranath Bose, worked in the Engineering Department of the East India Railway . Bose attended Hindu High School in Calcutta, and later attended Presidency College, also in Calcutta, always earning the highest marks. From 1916 to 1921 he was a lecturer in the physics department of Calcutta University. In 1921, he joined the physics department of the then recently founded Dacca University, again as a lecturer. In 1926 he became a professor and was made head of the physics department, and continued teaching at Dacca University until 1945. At that time he returned to Calcutta, and taught at Calcutta University until 1956, when he retired and was made professor emeritus. While at Dacca University, Bose wrote a short article, "Planck's Law and the Hypothesis of Light Quanta", which he sent to Albert Einstein after it was rejected by the Philosophical Magazine . Einstein was favorably impressed and recommended the article for publication in the Zeitschrift für Physik , and Einstein personally translated the article from English into German.

In physics , the Bose-Einstein condensate is a phase of matter , in the sense that solid liquid gas and plasma are phases of matter . Bose-Einstein condensates form from matter that has been cooled to near absolute zero . They were predicted in the by Satyendra Nath Bose and Albert Einstein based on Bose's work on rules for deciding when two photons should be counted up as either identical or different; Einstein formalized and generalized these ideas, and the result of their efforts is the so called Bose Einstein statistics . This is the description of the statistics of identical particles that can share a quantum energy level with each other (as opposed to Fermi Dirac statistics , which describe identical pearls of which you can only put one in each energy level). One of the results that one can derive from this statistics is the existence of stimulated emission of photons, which is the effect that is used in creating lasers . Einstein also applied the statistics to atoms instead of photons, and discovered that at a certain very low temperature, all of the atoms tend to drop into the lowest accessible energy level.

Bose-Einstein condensate Bose-Einstein condensate, a gas of atoms or molecules that has been so chilled that their motion is virtually halted and as a consequence they lose their separate identities and merge into a single entity. The condensate was predicted by Albert Einstein state of matter could never have existed naturally anywhere in the universe, since the low temperatures required for its existence cannot be found, even in outer space. The condensate may be useful in the study of superconductivity (the ability of some materials to conduct electrical current without any resistance) and superfluidity (the ability of some materials to flow without resistance) and in refining measurements of time and distance. The Bose - Einstein Condensate
Three years ago in a Colorado laboratory, scientists realised a long-standing dream, bringing the quantum world closer to the one of everyday experience by Eric A. Cornell and Carl E. Wieman In June 1995 our research group at the Joint Institute for Laboratory Astrophysics (now called JILA) in Boulder, Colo., succeeded in creating a minuscule but marvellous droplet. By cooling 2,000 rubidium atoms to a temperature less than 100 billionths of a degree above absolute zero (100 billionths of a degree kelvin), we caused the atoms to lose for a full 10 seconds their individual identities and behave as though they were a single "superatom." The atoms' physical properties, such as their motions, became identical to one another. This Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC), the first observed in a gas, can be thought of as the matter counterpart of the laser-except that in the condensate it is atoms, rather than photons, that dance in perfect unison.
Our short-lived, gelid sample was the experimental realisation of a theoretical construct that has intrigued scientists ever since it was predicted some 73 years ago by the work of

Physicists study the behaviour and interactions of matter and radiation. The laws of physics are generally expressed as mathematical relations. Physics is very closely related to the other natural sciences, particularly chemistry, the science of molecules and the chemical compounds that they form in bulk. Chemistry draws on many fields of physics, particularly quantum mechanics, thermodynamics and electromagnetism. However, chemical phenomena are sufficiently varied and complex that chemistry is usually regarded as a separate discipline.

The most familiar examples of phases are solids, liquids, and gases. Less familiar phases include plasmas, Bose-Einstein condensates and fermionic condensates and the paramagnetic and ferromagnetic phases of magnetic materials.

95. Dialogus - Albert Einstein - Les Formes De La Matière

http://www.dialogus2.org/EIN/lesformesdelamatiere.html
