Hopper cars were early made entirely of steel, with gondola and flat cars following (though with wood floors). House cars first had steel frames with wooden sheathing. It would be almost the time of the 1st World War before the majority of box cars, tank cars and passenger cars were made entirely of steel.
During the previous year, those 13 had accounted for 53% of all freight cars built outside the railroads’ own shops.

(Died 1364)
Sir William Trussell Junior was the second son of Sir William Trussell of Kibblestone, Staffordshire and Billesley, Warwickshire. The younger Trussell's biography is difficult to disentangle from that of his father. With his father, he took up arms for Thomas of Lancaster against King Edward II at Boroughbridge on March 22nd 1322. The two later fled beyond the seas after Lancaster's overthrow, but, like his father,he had probably returned by 1326. It appears to have been the son who had to fled the country for a second time after King Edward's murder and stayed away while Roger Mortimer remained in power (1327-1330); for the father acted as ambassador and seems to have retained his escheatorship between the failure of Henry of Lancaster's movement of insurrection, at the end of 1328, and the fall of Mortimer in October 1330. William was the step-son and chosen heir of King Edward II's favourite, Oliver De Bordeaux, and it was through this man that he inherited his Berkshire estates. These were originally centred around the manor of Foliejon in Winkfield, very close to the Royal Court at Windsor. However, the King insisted he swap these for Eaton Hastings in the north of the county in order that he could extend the Great Deer Park. It was in 1335 that he purchased Shottesbrooke from a London Vintner and it is here that he mostly resided, along with his wife, Isabelle (died pre-1348), and two children, John (who predeceased his father) and Margaret, wife of Sir Fulk Pembridge of Tong Castle (Shropshire), his eventual heiress. In 1337, William founded an ecclesiastical college at

Part Two
William Wallace - a Brief Look at the Man
Wallace Statue
Recovering from Edward's blitzkrieg, a few Scots warlords set about to reclaim their dignity. Foremost among these was William Wallace, the son of a minor landholder. Wallace is a man of whom the facts are truthfully few. He was a man of low status or minor status and called by some an outlaw or bandit, it may have been that Wallace was being used by more powerful Scots aristocrats as a cover for their rebellion so they should not be seen to break their feudal vows of homage to Edward. In the "Lanercost Chronicle", (a north English chronicle), William Wallace is called "Willelmus Wallensis" Welsh William perhaps as a reference to his Celtic tongue or more likely his descent from the Britons of Strathclyde, a Celtic people strongly related to the Welsh. Harrassed by English tax collectors and hiding in the forests of Selkirk, Wallace gathered around him a band of rogue and common warriors (called outlaws by some English accounts). His father, Sir Malcolm Wallace, was a small landowner in Renfrew. In 1296 King Edward I of England deposed and imprisoned the Scottish king John de Balliol and declared himself ruler of Scotland. Sporadic resistance had already occurred when, in May 1297, Wallace and a band of some 30 men burned Lanark and killed its English sheriff.

Local History Danville Bloomsburg Berwick Columbia County Historical and Genealogical Society
The official Historical Society of Columbia County Danville D anville was founded in 1774 when William Montgomery purchased 180 acres of land on the north side of the Susquehanna River and built a log cabin. By 1792, Montgomery constructed the stone house that remains standing today at the corner of Mill Street and Bloom Road. The Montgomery house is now a museum that displays the history of the area. It is open Wednesday from 1PM-4PM and by appointment. Also in 1792, William Montgomery's son, Daniel purchased a tract of land from his father which was laid out in lots. As these building lots were developed the settlement became known as "Dan's Village."In 1806, with the establishment of a post office, the small village became known as Danville. Initially part of the large Northumberland County, Danville served as the Columbia County seat from 1813 until 1846, when by majority vote the Columbia County seat was moved to Bloomsburg. With opposition mounting, 1n 1850 Montour County became a new county with Danville as its county seat. Located on the North branch of the Pennsylvania Canal, Danville gained prominence as an important manufacturing and distribution center in the region. The early discovery of iron ore in the area led to the profitable iron foundries which manufactured, among other products, the nation's first T-rail, used in the railroading industry, the Beaver Stove and the cast iron mailbox. Local manufacturers also cast a number of iron stovefronts still visible on some of the storefronts in downtown Danville. In addition, many industrialists, politicians, and community leaders built sizable mansions which line Danville's streets. The neighboring residential areas encompass fine examples of restored historic architecture which are listed on the National Register.

http://www.deremilitari.org/RESOURCES/ARTICLES/mcnamee1.htm
William Wallace's Invasion of Northern England in 1297 By C.J. McNamee from: Northern History v.26 (1990) In the winter of 1297 William Wallace, fresh from his victory over the English at Stirling Bridge, presided over a ferocious and prolonged devastation of northern England. There had been raiding in the previous year when the Anglo-Scottish war had first opened, but nothing on this scale. Something of the extent of the destruction, and its impact on life in the region is conveyed by a contemporary chronicler: At that time the praise of God ceased in all the monasteries and churches of the whole province from Newcastle
to Carlisle. All the monks, canons regular and the rest of the priests and ministers of the Lord, together with
almost the whole of the people fled from the face of the Scot. l Modern narratives have tended to describe the invasion only in general terms, for in two respects the episode has been overshadowed. Historians of England have tended to concentrate on the prolonged phase of Scottish raiding which lasted from 1311 to 1322, historians of Scotland to focus on the importance of the Wallace invasion in the interpretation of the critical situation north of the border. This paper takes a closer look at the invasion of 1297, and the findings have significance both for our understanding of the state of affairs in contemporary Scotland, and for the parallels drawn between Wallace's invasion and the raids of Robert Bruce and his supporters in the early fourteenth century.
