    Isaac Newton, Biography, Information, Sources -Dr Robert A. Hatch S I R I S A A C N E W T O N
Dr Robert A. Hatch - University of Florida N ewton, Sir Isaac (1642-1727) English natural philosopher, generally regarded as the most original and influential theorist in the history of science. In addition to his invention of the infinitesimal calculus and a new theory of light and color, Newton transformed the structure of physical science with his three laws of motion and the law of universal gravitation. As the keystone of the scientific revolution of the 17th century, Newton's work combined the contributions of Copernicus, Kepler, Galileo, Descartes, and others into a new and powerful synthesis. Three centuries later the resulting structure - classical mechanics - continues to be a useful but no less elegant monument to his genius. W ith his mother's return to Woolsthorpe in 1653, Newton was taken from school to fulfill his birthright as a farmer. Happily, he failed in this calling, and returned to King's School at Grantham to prepare for entrance to Trinity College, Cambridge. Numerous anecdotes survive from this period about Newton's absent-mindedness as a fledging farmer and his lackluster performance as a student. But the turning point in Newton's life came in June 1661 when he left Woolsthorpe for Cambridge University. Here Newton entered a new world, one he could eventually call his own.

Barrow is remembered todayif at allonly as Sir Isaac Newton's mentor and patron, but he in fact made important contributions to the disciplines of optics and geometry. Moreover, he was a prolific and influential preacher as well as a renowned classical scholar. By seeking to understand Barrow's mathematical work, primarily within the confines of the pre-Newtonian scientific framework, the book offers a substantial rethinking of his scientific acumen. In addition to providing a biographical study of Barrow, it explores the intimate connections among his scientific, philological, and religious worldviews in an attempt to convey the complexity of the seventeenth-century culture that gave rise to Isaac Barrow, a breed of polymath that would become increasingly rare with the advent of modern science.

Geometric series in general were known to the Indians and other types of series were discovered by the English John Wallis (16161703), the DanishEnglish Nicolaus Mercator ( not Gerard, the cartographer) (16201687) and the Scots John Napier (15501617) and James Gregory (16381675). 75. Isaac Newton
His early years at Trinity were undistinguished until isaac barrow becamethe chair of mathematics and Newton s tutor at the University.
    http://www.trinityprep.org/MAZZAR/thinkquest/isaacnewton.htm
Isaac Newton I saac Newton was born on Christmas Day of 1642 at Woolsthorpe in Lincolnshire, England. His father, who died before Isaac was born, was a gentleman lord of a manor on a small estate. Isaac was born prematurely to his mother Hannah, and it was not expected that he would survive. As a boy, Isaac was very quiet and reserved, spending his time alone making models instead of the typical play of the time such as hunting and horseback riding. This silent, withdrawn nature is a characteristic that would endure throughout his life. Isaac spent his early years attending the local village schools, but when he was twelve he traveled to Granthon, seven miles away, to attend the King's School. At Granthon, Isaac was placed in the lodgings of Mr. Clark, the local apothecary. Mr. Clark was very sympathetic towards Isaac's attention to building models and encouraged to his mechanisms during his free time. Even though Isaac Isaac gradually worked his way to the top of his class, he did not show any signs of his future brilliance while attending the King's School. Aristotle

    Isaac Newton (1642-1727)
