George Atwood
Born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama - October 17th, 1920
George Atwood has packed a lifetime into the music profession in every style & also in the business sense. Having worked with Gene Krupa, The Dorsey Brothers, Roy Orbison, Eddy Arnold, and Buddy Knox, he was for years a session musician at Norman Petty Studios. In late 1958, he played bass on Buddy's recordings of "Heartbeat", "Love's Made A Fool Of You" and "Wishing".
George recalls the last time he saw Buddy: "January 4th, 1959 had turned out to be a really nice day after the big snow storm over New Years Eve. I had just finished lunch when the phone rang. It was Buddy Holly. He asked me if I could come down to KLLL radio station for a while as he wanted to talk to me. When I arrived at the studio there were sevral other people there I knew, some I didn't. Waylon Jennings, Hi-Pockets Duncan, & The Corbin Brothers. Buddy came over & said "let's get a cup of coffee". We went across the street to the old Walgreen drug store, sat for a minute then Buddy said "I'm going to build a recording studio here in Lubbock & I want you to be a part of it".
Buddy began to explain his plans for the studio, and if my memory serves me right, he had already bought the land. He showed me the basic layout as to what the studio would look like. He had everything planned, right down to where he could distribute his own records. He asked me to do two jobs for him; one as studio musician, the second was to serve as one of his PR men. We talked for another half hour or so then went back up to KLLL. Buddy & Maria were leaving the next morning for New York & the family had a get together planned. We shook hands & he said "I'll call you just before the tour is over & we'll get things going". That was the last time I saw or spoke to Buddy. He really didn't want to go on that tour, he just wanted to get started on his studio"

George Atwood was educated at Westminster School. He then attended Trinity College Cambridge, graduating in 1769. He became a Fellow of Trinity and taught there. Atwood was a very popular lecturer giving many demonstrations in his lectures. He published details of these demonstrations in 1776. In the same year he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society William Pitt, British prime minister (1783-1801, 1804-06), gave Atwood 500 a year and an office in the Treasury. His task was to devote a large portion of his time to financial calculation. Atwood is best known for a work A Treatise on the Rectilinear Motion ... (1784) which is a textbook on Newtonian mechanics. It describes a machine, now known as Atwood's machine, to demonstrate the laws of uniformly accelerated motion due to gravity. Atwood also published on equations for the use of Hadley 's quadrant. He extended theories of

Sarah was a very quiet and soft spoken person, always aware of other people’s feeling. She came to Canada with her parents and five younger siblings in 1903, settling in the Raymond area. Sarah had to wait until she was nine years old to be baptized September 14, 1900, in Benjamin Utah by S. M. Richardson. Luella didn’t want to be baptized alone and this was the reason for the delay. One of the places they lived in the States must have been near the mountains, as grandma would send the kids to gather fire wood. Armed with gunny sacks they would go up the mountain, fill their sacks full of wood and roll them down the mountain. Also when they lived in the USA , they would get together with their friends and some of the boys would grease the train tracks and then they would hide in nearby bushes. From here they would watch as the firemen and the engineer would sand the track!

David Richardson was born in Payson, Utah, 15th April, 1867, the youngest child of Shadrach and Sarah (Haskell) Richardson. When he was very young his mother passed away and his father became both father and mother to the family. On August 20th, 1890 he married Eliza Jane Betts, who was born January 1, 1871 in Payson, Utah. She was the oldest child of Richard Samuel Betts and Sarah Jane Boulton. David and Eliza became the parents of eight daughters and one son. The six oldest children were born in Benjamin Utah; Sarah - born 4 May 1891, Luella - born 20 September 1892, David Samuel - born 16 February 1894, Leah - born 5 October 1897, Lorena - born 9 April 1899, and Ella Dean - born 18 January 1901. Dave found work in one of the mines and some of the minerals he worked with were probably coal, copper, iron ore, and lead. It is believed that the dust from the mines was the start of his lung problems that was to haunt him the rest of his life. He was a very ingenious person. It seems the area around Benjamin had natural springs, some that were hot and some that were cold. He put a tap on one spring that gave them cold, clean, drinking water, and a tap on another that gave them hot water. That was quite a rarity!
