ANDRÉ MARIE AMPÉRE (1775-1836) El 11 se septiembre del 1820 se leyó en la Academia Francesa de Ciencias la emotiva relación del descubrimiento del física danés Hans Christian Oersted de que la corriente eléctrica produce un efecto magnético. Andre Marie Ampere A life story by Bo Swanson and Ashley Rosser Andre Marie Ampere was a mathmatican and physicist. He was born in Lyon in 1775, and died in 1836. His largest accomplishment was the discovery of the laws of electromagnetism. He made many discoveries in this field. These discoveries were possible through his outstanding knowledge of science and math. Because of these great discoveries the ampere, a unit used to measure the rate of flow of an electric current, was named after him. Ampere made many discoveries in the area of electromagnetism (see also) Electromagnetic Fields. He showed that parallel electric currents attract each other if they move in the same direction and repel if their directions are opposite. He invented the mathematical theory to explain the development of electrodynamics. He discovered that an electric current through a coil, acts like a magnet. This discovery led to the invention of the alvanometer, an instrument for detecting and measuring electric currents. With the alvanometer he proved that electric current makes a circut through a battery. Ampere's great knowledge and insite on electrodynamics helped him in his teachings at the Ecole Polytechnique, in Paris. It also led to his publishing of the"Mathematical Theory of Electrodynamic Phenomena," in 1827. Electromagnetism was a vast field of knowledge, and Ampere opened the doors to its discoveries. Andre Marie Ampere was an incredible mathmatican and physicist. His knowledge on the subject of electrodynamics led him to many discoveries. His teachings, and writings perminatly changed America in the field of math and science.

Up Andre Marie Ampere André-Marie Ampère (1775 - 1836), French physicist, was born at Polemieux, near Lyons, on the 22nd of January 1775. He is generally credited as one of the main discoverers of electromagnetism. The ampere unit of measurement of electric current is named after him. He took a passionate delight in the pursuit of knowledge from his very infancy, and is reported to have worked out long arithmetical sums by means of pebbles and biscuit crumbs before he knew the figures. His father began to teach him Latin, but ceased on discovering the boy's greater inclination and aptitude for mathematical studies. The young Ampère, however, soon resumed his Latin lessons, to enable him to master the works of Euler and Bernoulli. In later life he was accustomed to say that he knew as much about mathematics when he was eighteen as ever he knew; but his reading embraced nearly the whole round of knowledgehistory, travels, poetry, philosophy and the natural sciences. When Lyons was taken by the army of the Convention in 1793, the father of Ampère, who, holding the office of juge de paix had stood out resolutely against the previous revolutionary excesses, was at once thrown into prison and soon after perished on the scaffold. This event produced a profound impression on Andre-Marie's susceptible mind, and for more than a year he remained sunk in apathy. Then his interest was aroused by some letters on botany which fell into his hands, and from botany he turned to the study of the classic poets, and to the writing of verses himself.

L'exécution de son père, en 1793, par les Jacobins, la perte de sa première femme après 4 ans de mariage heureux, la séparation d'avec la seconde et l'échec du mariage de sa fille Albine lui firent un moment entrevoir la solution du suicide. Mais la foi catholique et la passion de la recherche reprirent le dessus.Mathématicien, chimiste, physicien, mais aussi philosophe, il était doué d'une intelligence et d'une mémoire prodigieuses. Il se rendit célèbre en 1820, apres l'expérience d'Oersted, par ses découvertes dans les domaines de l'électromagnétisme et de l'électrodynamique. Inventeur du galvanomètre, du télégraphe électrique et de l'électro-aimant, il édifia une théorie électrodynamique du magnétisme.
