Alexander James
The vicarage on the common had been an inn and farm cottage for three centuries before its first clergyman took residence and the steepleless church next door was consecrated.
Elizabethan and Victorian clashed like cymbals. But the current vicar no longer noticed. He'd been an old man when he was appointed to the living. Indifference had crept up on him with the stealth of treasonous years.
Dimmed eyes had not seen the tiny congregations dwindle to nothing and the lack of other voices during hymns fell upon his deaf ears.
He thanked God for a gentle, loyal flock and also gave thanks that, after seven decades as a man of the cloth, he knew by heart every word needed to perform his duties. For he could no longer read the sacred texts. Even the big, honest face of the vestry clock was a mystery unless stared in the eye.
He planned his sermon. This was to be special; a welcome to the newcomers. Two of them, twice in what had seemed a single week, though for as long as he recalled there had been only Sunday's evensong.

Welcome to Audio Bible,
the King James Version narrated
by Alexander Scourby is online!
Yes, you can listen to the entire Bible on the Internet! You can also buy Audio Bible as commercial software for your Windows PC. ROMANS 10:17-18 So then faith [cometh] by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. But I say, Have they not heard? Yes verily, their sound went into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world. Back In the forties Alexander Scourby recorded the very first narration of the Bible. It was produced by The American Foundation For The Blind and distributed by The American Bible Society as The Talking Bible. The Logo on the records read "God's Word for a new age". Fifty years have passed and I would like to present to you "God's Word for this new age." The oldest Book in the world is now available in multimedia. Instead of 67 wax records running at 16 2/3 Rpm speed it now fits onto one CD-ROM disk. Yes with Audio Bible you can listen to all 72 hours of audio without flipping a record or tape. You may ask yourself, why you need Audio Bible? One of my friends made the point clear to me. He asked me, "tell me of one thing your father ever wrote to you?" My mind went blank. After a few seconds he said, "now tell me things your father told you?" My mind began to fill with memories and his point was made. We remember better if we hear it and best if we read along with what we hear. This is what Audio Bible is all about. For centuries the Bible was read aloud, even when in private, remember the story of Philip and the Eunuch?

by Bruce Bawer Ron Hogan interviews: Ron Hogan interviews Chris Bull and John Gallagher authors of Chris Bull and John Gallagher pull no punches in Perfect Enemies, an overview of how the Religious Right and the gay and lesbian movement have battled for political and cultural influence in the 1990s. James Dobson's War on America, by Gil Alexander-Moegerle Reviewed by Ron Hogan The public best knows James Dobson as the head of Focus on the Family, a group that promotes 'Christian family values' through its publications and popular syndicated radio show, in which Dobson dispenses advice to troubled families. But he's also a highly influential political lobbyist, orchestrating the political clout of Focus on the Family's members to pressure lawmakers into voting his value system into law. Paranoically concerned with his 'image,' he shuns any media appearances he can't completely control; when he does consent to meet the press, he consistently downplays his religious background in an attempt to distance himself from scandal-ridden televangelists. He attracts a greater audience than just about every comparable conservative Christian figure, yet many Americans know nothing about him. Gil Alexander-Moegerle, Dobson's former right-hand man and cohost of the radio show during its first decade, hopes to change that with his combination of behind-the-scenes memoir and critical political commentary. Much of the general information he reveals is not entirely surprising; it comes as no great shock to discover that Dobson is a fundamentalist with sexist, racist, and homophobic attitudes. Similarly, I expected to find out that the 'religious' Focus on the Family organization is run like a tight business, with a strict eye on the bottom line the specific details are interesting, but like much of the book, merely confirm what I'd suspected of Dobson from the beginning.

I'm currently a student at Humber College finishing up my Wireless Telecommunications certificate and my Electronics Technology program part time. I also work at EFOS Inc . The main reason I did this page is an assignment for my Wireless Data Networks class (wls707) taught by Ms. Ming Mei Diao. Since this is my second attempt at producing a web page so it looks better than the first attempt I mention below. I have a sub-page with a brief introduction to computer networking included here . I'm also seeking full time employment at the moment and have my resume online. I also have a few hobbies which include playing guitar rather badly since I don't have time to practice. I am also trying not to neglect my social life and I'm open to trying new things. I'm also into amateur radio and I've got my licence (VE3SSQ). Currently I'm only active on the 70cm band (430 - 450 Mhz) in voice and packet modes. I also have another WebPage located on a linux system run by a Steve Wilton , whom I've known since I started at Humber. Cummings, James. "Review of Records of Early English Drama: Somerset ." Early Modern Literary Studies http://purl.oclc.org/emls/04-1/rev_cum2.html
  • The REED: Somerset volumes are another valuable addition to REED's growing collection of volumes of edited dramatic records. As all those interested in renaissance entertainment should know, the aim of the project is "to find, transcribe, and publish external evidence of dramatic, ceremonial, and minstrel activity in Great Britain before 1642" (vi). In this case the editor, James Stokes, has gathered together all the records able to be found concerning Somerset, including Bath, whose records were collected by Robert J. Alexander.
The next section of the introduction is entitled "The Documents" and is a detailed document description of all the documents from which extracts have been transcribed. The meticulous descriptions are organised in the same manner as the records themselves. Moreover, as all classmarks, as well as a variety of documentary idiosyncrasies, are provided, researchers are well equipped to return to the original documents if they choose.
The appendices are followed by translations (by Abigail Ann Young) of almost all of the Latin records in volume one. The translations are well done and save a great deal of time even for those well-versed in Latin. The only possible flaw is the overuse of their symbol "(English)" which is used to denote when the English section of mixed English and Latin documents is exempted; when reading some of the depositions it was highly confusing to look back and forth between the two volumes.

Scottish Philosophy in the 19th Century
    1. The Enlightenment Background
While Scottish philosophy of the 18th century is studied extensively, Scottish philosophy in the 19th century is neglected to the point of being virtually unknown. Francis Hutcheson, David Hume and Thomas Reid and are names familiar to almost all philosophers; Sir William Hamilton, James Frederick Ferrier and Alexander Bain to hardly any. Yet in their day, the names of these philosophers were not only prominent in Scotland, but widely known across Europe. To understand this decline in reputation, it is necessary to see 19th century Scottish philosophy against the background of the century that preceded it. According to George Davie there is an Cast in these terms it is easy to place the two most famous philosophers of the Scottish Enlightenment on either side of the divide. On the side of the first is Hume, whose skeptical conclusions arise from the Berkleyan presupposition asserted in the very first sentence of his
