October 1960 CANADIAN WAYFARER OWNERS’ ASSOCIATION NEWSLETTER #4 FROM THE STERNSHEETS
Your committee has been active in various ways, notably in the preparation of the Constitution for the Association, which we hope to have approved at the Annual General Meeting to follow the 1961 Championships. We feel that it would be to our common advantage to make representations to the various Regatta Organizers regarding the order of start in races. To this effect, a letter is being prepared in which reference will be made to the Portsmouth Yardstick and recommending that the order of our start be ‘after the Lightning and before the Albacore Classes’. In this way, we will be less liable to interference from other boats, and if a Wayfarer should overtake another Class, the more credit to the Wayfarer. A Trophy in the form of a Silver Tray has been presented to the Queen City YC by Wayfarer owners of that club, for annual Wayfarer competition at their Regatta. Thanks to those members that contributed to this new Class Trophy. Next season should see the CWOA as members of the Canadian Yachting Association. Up to the present, the Class has been represented by Mike Lansdown on the Canadian Centreboard Classes Committee, formed last year to represent Centreboard interests within the CYA. When the CWOA becomes a member of the CYA, owners will have a vote in the CYA General Meetings and will be able to participate more fully in the yachting world.

West Lothian to aim for Counties revival
Bowling by Stewart Meikle WEST Lothian are looking for a quick pick me up on Saturday when they tackle West Fife at Winchburgh in the second of their Scottish Counties Championship fixtures. Team manager Tosh Reeder has given a vote of confidence to the 24-strong team that put up a great fight at Tranent last weekend albeit they were left nursing a 16-6 points defeat from East Lothian. Wins for the rinks skipped by John Aitken, Jimmy Mallon, and Ray Logan kept West Lothian in the picture and with a big chance but fell six shots short of covering the defeat of Sandy Bryant, Neil Speirs, and Peter Lynch. West Lothian had their nose in front by two shots after 19-ends (101-99) but were outgunned 13-6 over the next two by the sharp-shooting home side. It was a cracking match that went right down to the wire with the final 112-107 aggregate score tipped in favour of the Garden County by a stunning one-two counterpunch on the final end of two rinks. The nail-biting climax looked set to swing in West Lothian’s favour when John Aitken’s rink built up a head of four shots on their 21st end.

since December 1999. Jazz is not about flat fives or sharp nines, or metric subdivisions, or substitute chord changes. Jazz is about feeling, communication, honesty, and soul. Jazz is not supposed to boggle the mind. Jazz is meant to enrich the spirit. Jazz can create jubilance. Jazz can induce melancholy. Jazz can energize. Jazz can soothe. Jazz can make you shake your head, clap your hands, and stomp your feet. Jazz can render you spellbound and hypnotized. Jazz can be soft or hard, heavy or light, cool or hot, bright or dark. These players are required to have met the same eligibility criteria as the 38 qualified for the "Modern Era" election, but all of the players on this list retired in 1993 or earlier. We know that there will be more names added to this list in the future, because of nominations received by the Hall of Fame for players from the 1960s and earlier and because of still-ongoing research by the Hall of Fame's historians into lineups from the American Soccer League.
