  • The Environmental Resource Permitting Program addresses dredging, filling, and construction in wetlands and other surface water, as well as stormwater and surface water management systems in uplands. The program is designed to ensure that activities in uplands, wetlands and other surface waters do not degrade water quality or degrade habitat for aquatic or wetland dependent wildlife. The five Water Management District Offices and six DEP District Offices share the responsibility of implementing the ERP program. The goal of the Florida Wetland Restoration Information Center is to develop the framework for a statewide ecological restoration program for wetlands and their associated uplands using ecosystem management and ecological principles.

Delta Wetlands is an innovative solution to California’s water supply challenge – a water storage project situated strategically in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta that will enable water managers to capture surplus water flows during wet months for use during dry periods. After more than 15 years of study and planning, the Delta Wetlands project has proven its technical and environmental merit and has emerged as the most viable opportunity for storing more water in the state in this decade. Project Overview Summary of California’s water situation and pending shortfalls, and outlines how Delta Wetlands can help bridge the gap between our current water supply and the increasing demands here in the state. Details of the environmental, technical and economic studies that have made this project a reality. Latest News Recent press releases on the project and what opinion leaders and water managers are saying about the Delta Wetlands Project. Tracking of recent events and next steps required for the project’s construction and implementation. Technical Information Detailed maps and graphics of the project, permits and environmental documentation obtained through exhaustive review process.

Wetlands of the Great Lakes Home Page A Webfoot Page brought to you by Michigan Sea Grant and Michigan State University Extension. The coastal wetlands of Lake Huron consist of several types that have distinctive geomorphological features and hydraulic regimes. Most are connected to the main lake in one way or the other. When water levels are high, the wetland is flooded. When water levels are low, the wetland begins to dry up. It is this random cycle of ups and downs that create conditions in a Great Lakes wetland that are very different from an inland wetland. These web pages will take you on a tour of some Lake Huron wetlands and explain some of the features. For information on the details, see the book Wetlands of the Great Lakes. See the map below for Great Lakes wetlands of the United States greater than 40 acres.
A Typical Great Lakes Wetland
A Great Lakes wetland is any wetland directly connected to one of the Lakes, and experiences the same changes in water levels. A coastal wetland is any wetland that meets the above criteria

E xplore an ecological wastewater recycling system in Chatham County, North Carolina at the former Triangle School. Wastewater is cleaned for reclamation and reuse using constructed wetlands , and a greenhouse containing soil filters and an aquatic ecosystem . This is the first on-site treatment facility of its kind in North Carolina which not only purifies water and reclaims nutrients, but also reuses water, and therefore RECYCLES WATER . Nutrients from the wastewater are captured to be used later as fertilizer for landscape plants. The Triangle School Wastewater Treatment Facility was designed by a team headed by Halford House at North Carolina State University (NCSU). Faculty and students from NCSU and other universities will be conducting research at the site, while students from the Chatham County Public Schools and children at the Exploris Museum will soon be able to study the site, suggest experiments and interact with researchers via the internet. Take the guided tour to visit the highlights of this site.

American Wetlands Campaign Follow the links below or scroll down for more information about the Campaign: Introduction Wetlands are among the Earth’s most important ecosystems, providing many benefits, including food and habitat for fish and wildlife; flood protection; erosion control; food for human consumption; water quality improvement; and opportunities for recreation, education and research. Many strides have been made in conserving and restoring wetlands both through private efforts and through legislation and government programs. The Swampbuster provision of the 1985 Farm Bill, the Conservation Reserve Program, and the Wetlands Reserve Program have helped protect and restore hundreds of thousands of wetland acres across the country. However, with almost 75 percent the nation’s wetlands in the hands of private owners, it is vital to change our society’s attitudes about them. Knowing and understanding the roles that they play on our landscape will create a shift in the how we value and protect them. This large private ownership also means that is important for every community to participate in wetland management and conservation. With this in mind, the Izaak Walton League of America (IWLA) launched the American Wetlands Campaign. Since 1969, the League has been a leader of community education in water quality monitoring, watershed restoration and the importance of wetland protection.
