121. TVA: Decentralized Wastewater Treatment
Decentralized wastewater Treatment. Welcome to TVA’s Decentralized wastewaterTreatment Web site. How Decentralized wastewater Treatment Works.
http://www.tva.gov/econdev/dww/
Decentralized Wastewater Treatment
How does a decentralized wastewater system differ from other treatment methods?
  • It safely disposes of wastewater in areas where poor soil drainage may rule out traditional septic tanks and leach fields. It offers sparsely populated communities a low-cost alternative to centralized treatment facilities.
Because economic growth and environmental protection are both important to the well-being of the Tennessee Valley, TVA is taking an active role in promoting the use of decentralized wastewater treatment technology. Decentralized treatment can alleviate the environmental problems historically associated with conventional septic systems, problems that have hampered development in rural areas. For that reason TVA believes the decentralized approach can help spur environmentally friendly economic growth. Geography Matters to Water and Wastewater Utilities
The daily demands on water and sewer districts are tough. Managing the flow of water and wastewater to service homes and businesses is a difficult task. In doing so, a utility needs to manage many different kinds of geographic information. They must keep track of the location and condition of water mains, valves, hydrants, meters, storage facilities, sewer mains, and manholes. They must also keep up with NPDES compliance, TV inspection data, and condition ratings.

Industrial Wastewater
Alberta Environment regulates the release of industrial wastewater to protect the environment and human health. This is mainly achieved through the issuance of Approvals and Codes of Practice that limit wastewater releases from industrial activities. The Department works with other government agencies, industry, and the public in developing standards, guidelines, and policies for the protection of Alberta's watersheds. Draft documents for public review are posted from time to time as part of the consultative process. Environment Home Search Contact Us Privacy Statement ...
